Be pagan, back to our roots goddamit

Ten, kur saulė leidžias vakaruos, kur Prūsų giminės
Pavargusios kovot su kryžių nešančiais šunim,
Krito Pamedė, Galinda, Barta, gynės Semba
Ir Notanga sukilimais šlavė vokiečių pilis.
Penkiasdešimt metų kovės narsiai, nenurimo
Karo būgnas, plakt širdis, kerštu liepsnojantys ginklai,
Teks palikt tėvų žemes ir pažadą sugrįžt, ugnim
Išdegint tai, kas svetima, į pelenus paverst.

Prūsus ir Jotvingius, Kuršius, Sėlius ir Žiemgalius
Lietuva priglaust suspėjo, ginklą galinčius laikyt,
Geležinės valdė rankos, kautis troško ir atkeršyt,
Už tėvų mirtis krikščionims galą padaryt.
Niekšai, jūs svajojat eit toliau, anapus Nemuno,
Ir žemę Lietuvos grėsmingais kryžiais nusmaigstyt,
Mes vergaut nepratę, mūsų laisvė - tai kova,
Mes visi numirsime mūšyje laisvi.

Pralaimi tie, kurie nebetiki,
Nustoja plakt širdis, įpuolusi į neviltį.
Sudėt ginklus - pasmerkt gyvenimą,
Iškeisti laisvę į beviltišką vergavimą.
Kas drįsta pult į priešų begalę,
Suklupęs kumštyje suspaudžia savo pergalę.
Visai arti, anapus Nemuno,

well I don't get angry, dunno why, you believe what you want, that's all, I don't see problem.

only one thing I don't like is people wearing cross and saying they believe in God and don't want to know anything about Jesus or Church and so so. It's like they do that to get good girls notice them...

well, I don't think that even good girls don't like religious boys, so I don't get it anyway...

So church is more important than just having your relationship with god? I never really understood what the function of church was other than crusades, money collecting, child abuse and lobbyism :)

In Orthodox Christianity, gambling is a sin. Not a mortal sin, but against God's will. But it's not clear whether the Orthodox Christians would consider poker to be gambling.

The long post quoting extensively from the Bible laid it out pretty well. You're okay as a poker player as long as you don't let it consume your life and make you violate _other_ rules of morality, such as knowingly playing against drunks and problem gamblers. (Note I say "knowingly" because, in online poker, it's often impossible to tell. Live poker is different.) Of course, winning players tend to violate those rules all the time, so you be the judge.

When you make money from poker you are profiteering from the misfortune of others. This is considered un-christianlike and therefore against the teachings of Christ. It falls under the "Love your neighbour" category.

For those that don't believe, fine, that is your choice, but I am answering this question for the person that wants to know, not for those who want to take the ****. <---(Swearing is also against the christian teachings)

imo it's not against any religion as long as you remember on co/bu/sb "You shall not steal"

I am certainly aware there is an argument for this. However I am not sure I fully agree.

A professional poker player is not looking to profit from the "misfortune" of others but rather through his skill edge. It seems that all people who sit down at the table are fully aware of the risks and can be considered bound by a non-verbal agreement.

A lot of the time villain will still have some equity in a pot, and it's unlikely they will feel bad for you should they end up winning any given session. Granted problem gamblers do exist, but this is not the fault or the problem of the professional poker player.

I fully see why some people may consider winning money from someone not "showing love for your neighbour". I think it depends on your perception though. I have never had gambling issues and frankly see poker as an innocent pasttime. As I'm sure most of you realise, to play a decent game vs good opponents, play-money tables are pretty much out of the question.
From the things I see in chat it is evident that some people see poker as a huge pissing contest and take pleasure in insulting one another and generally being disrespectful. If this is how you perceive poker then perhaps it is "un-Christian".

However, I personally do not see anything ethically incorrect about profiting from game as a result of your skill, where all parties are aware of, and accept the rules of the game. The bigger ethical issue seems to be that while you are playing cards you aren't really giving anything back to society.

This was actually another point I was going to add. Working is encouraged in the scriptures. I can't remember exactly where this comment is but I do know that God Himself says that if a man does not work then let him not eat. We are also counselled to go and "take a look at the ant" and imitate the way it works i.e. both hard and incessantly.

I still feel that poker exploits a weakness in your opponents and, scripturally, we are encouraged to aid people who have weaknesses, not fleece them.

There is nothing there in black and white that says we can't play poker. However, the christian teachings sure do make it morally wrong. People who claim to be active christians, yet also play poker, need to have a word with their own conscience concerning this matter. If their conscience allows them to do it then I will not argue. After all, it's not me they have to answer to later on, is it? =)

I did my part educating the history newbs around here .

Here I can contradict. We do give something to the society.

I can start by asking what does a musician give to the society? How about a professional football player? They offer entertainment and emotions. So what we do is the same, this: we sell emotions, good and bad, to those that choose to play. We entertain and we are payed for that.

You can't prove god exists neither can we prove that it doesn't exist. However why should we provide proof for something that has never been proven to exist?
It's like saying the flying spaghetti monster is real.. Prove me otherwise..

I'm not looking for an argument.. I just think it's strange for you to get so mad when you know you can't prove what you believe is real. Just let it rest.

watch the video or start to read books.you know is not my fault that you guys don't read.....
