hand 1: bad luck. You didn't make a mistake, but your opponents did, by callng preflop with such a short stack

hand 2: FOLD PREFLOP. First you call 100, don't do that, youre giving away money that way, because you can't call to a raise behind you. But then you DO call to a raise behind you and that's an even bigger mistake. Postflop it's wp.

I'll make a list for you of hands you call with when the blinds are 50/100:

...

Write that list down, and use it! :)

I can illustrate it for you:

If you could choose one of those two things, which one would you choose:

You start a tourney with 1500 starting stack and 50/100 blinds on the bb, with Ajs

or

You start a tourney on mp, and you get a random hand.

If you chose the first one, then you are wrong. By putting 100/1500 in the middle, you are handicapping yourself. Ajs against any random hand is not even so far ahead, so you are battling with a bb, with a coinflip, no information about his hand, and you didn't even have to play this, thereby, you can always get a raise behind you, and you can't call that.

Hand 1 : Your PF raise is too big. You make yourself pretty much pot committed on a low flop... why 10 BB ?
Post flop is ok, but it was avoidable.

Hand 2 : Raise PF, fold to button's probably reraise. Post flop is ok again.

oh, of course! you shouldn't raise 10bb before the flop:p.

And to help you, ill make a couple of mindbreakers for you:

I'll use these stacks:

UTG: t1532
UTG+1: t3625
MP1: t1735
MP2: t3064
MP3: t1830
CO: t1395
Button: t1365
SB: t1327
BB: t1500

1: you are UTG+1 (the big stack), you pick up 66. Blinds are 50/100, what do you do?

2. you are MP3, you pick up AJs, blinds are 50/100, what do you do?

3. you are UTG, you pick up KK, blinds are 200/400, what do you do?

4. you are the bb. blinds 50/100, sb miniraises to 200, what do you do?

5. you are MP2, blinds are 75/150, you pick up 88, what do you do?

Hand 1
preflop raise is way to high, I would not fold QQ as an overpair on these limits.

Hand 2
IMHO the best play would be a fold preflop, when you don't want to fold it you could steal raise, but you should NEVER limp call it. What happened in this hand is exactly the reason why this play is bad.

as unam said for both hands

@helem:

1: f unless you know MP2 is loose
2: raise 3x/fold
3: shove
4: call
5: O_O, probably raise 3x or more

hey, first thanks to all the comments!
Ok, it seems that i played the first hand well except the big raise. Actually there was a reason for this oversized bet. I recognized in former rounds that players were calling and limping standard bets like about 100. With my QQ under the gun + my big raise i just wanted to avoid hands calling cheaply with hands like KJ, AJ, AT, KT... Actually i wanted only one opponent, but still i got two (which i couldn't have known; especially with such a big raise). Of course in later stages i wouldn't have made a raise of about 10BB; But only this play made sense, though i really wanted to reduce the field and i'm sure that with a standard raise the raise would've rather been a pot sweetner (ok, maybe raise of 200 would have made more sense; but not less).
Now to hand 2: I agree that i made a mistake by calling. Raising would have been a better solution to win the pot right now. Nevertheless i DID call his reraise, because i interpreted it as a steal attempt and i had position on him. Of course i would have thrown this hand away if i wouldn't have flopped sth decent. Furthermore i want to emphasize that it was a tournament where players a generally looser and i have to search for spots to stay alive, don't i?

Ok, now to helems hands, here how i would play in the situations:
BTW: I assume that i'm first to the pot, you didn't write that, but i'll assume:

1. Fold. a raise wouldn't make sense, because with so many players left it's likely that i get called and so i get in the best case a coinflip (if one opponent, with two or more i wouldn't have even less chance to win). If I were short stack a all-in raise were probably an alternative to get max. folding equity.

2. Definately raise 3x BB in the hope to steal blinds. With 4 players left i have a good chance. And even if someone calls i have a decent hand.

3. Depends on how the table is. If it is tight i'll probably raise 2x BB. On a loose table probably 3xBB. I want to raise to thin the field and avoid mediocre Ax to limp in.

4. Probably a steal. I'd call at least. He's offering me 3:1, which i can call with a random hand in this situation.

5. I guess there're two ways to play it. I could either limp. If i get a lot of callers i get great implied odds when i make my set. Or i could make a raise of 3xBB to thin the field.

So, this is how i would play and why.
Like to here your comments.

BTW: I like posting hands more and more and i really think that all these little quests and evaluating of hands is a good exercise :)
More to come soon ;)

sry to sound like a dick but hand 5 you can't limp for set value. if you look at the stacks of all the players to act behind you, you hardly get the implied odds needed (call15+) unless 2 people limped in (in these high blinds, lol?) and then you were able to stack a player and some. also, if you limp in and no one raises there's very low chance you'll hit AND they'll pay you off.

hand 3 can be played with a minraise/3xraise but i think at these blinds you should be shoving a wide range and if you suddenly raise min/3x any decent player would pick up on it and tighten up his call range significantly accordingly.

is there an article about setvalue? I heard it a few times now, but didn't still don't know what it is?
I disagree with hand 3. I think an allin raise fears your opponents still more than a standard raise (which can be interpreted as one, according to YOUR stack size). And if one of the short stacks has a decent hand he'll play it anyway.
Probably there's little difference between allin and a standard raise in this situation ;)

omg, look at this one:

Full Tilt Poker

Stack sizes:
UTG: $13.60
UTG+1: $8.10
CO: $7.05
Button: $5.25
SB: $9.60
Hero: $8

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is BB with 5♦ T♣
4 folds, SB calls, Hero checks.

Flop: 9♠ T♥ T♦ ($0.2, 2 players)
SB bets $0.2, Hero calls.

Turn: 2♦ ($0.6, 2 players)
SB bets $0.3, Hero calls.

River: 3♥ ($1.2, 2 players)
SB bets $1, Hero raises to $2, SB raises to $4, Hero calls.

Results:
Final pot: $9.2
SB showed 3d 3c
Hero mucks 5d Tc

What do you think? I thought he had some kind of high cards or a pair and was drawing to it. Of course he hit the full house on the turn.... Bad luck?
BTW: I did slowplay this hand, but truly, was there really a hand that could beat me? I think no..

horrible reverse implied odds with the call on the turn.

you should bet the turn in case he is holding a flush-draw. not to protect your hand, but to force him to make a mistake and pay you. this is opposed to if he gets the free card, makes his flush, and forces you to pay; or he misses his flush and check/folds it.

if that was what he was holding (and yeah i saw you mentioned he had a FH), that'd be the classic example of why you don't always just slowplay with the best hands.

as played it all seems about right, although the river-betting was pretty donkplay (bet/minraise/minreraise lol!), good discipline to just call after the reraise.

ok, i see your point, so i should have reraised to let's say 90 to give him about 3:1 odds, in case he holds a diamond flush draw? (which agree, that i was a mistake, not to raise)
Furthermore i should have raised more on the river? Don't you think that when he had trips or sth better that he would have called also my big reraise? And if he was bluffing or had one/two pair, just called or folded? I guess a bigger reraise would just have had a big downside, but not a big upside??
Thanks anyway!
Greetings

BTW: Didn't he give hisself bad odds with a 30cent raise IF he had the flush draw? --> 3:1 pot odds when i call with a chance of hitting another diamond being 4:1??

if i was you i would've just called on the river. and if i was him i would've reraised you a lot more.

you answered 3 and 5 wrong cobby. With kk utg, you go all in, because people who limp or miniraise have aces or kings.

the 88 hand for setvalue is wrong too. You either raise or fold. This is very marginal, and since you are the big stack, i would fold here. There is no calling for setvalue here. I already made a list for you with hands you can flatcall with if the blinds are 50/100, here it is again:

"....."

ok?

That last hand, a freeplay, you should've reraised the turn, because it gets sticky there. Imo, the flop call is fine, but on the turn you need to know where you stand, it's also ul though, but you were asking for it a little bit.

sorry i just can't believe that s.b. with AT is more likely to call an allin than a minraise, even if it is suspicious in this stage.^^

ok, but if he hits the ace youre screwed, and if he doesn't you won 1 extra bb.

ha, look at this. I mean AA vs KK is even pretty crazy, but then even making 4oak is sick!
Nevertheless i won :)
AA vs KK with 4oak

nice hand.

Another criticism though...

you play 1+.25$ s&g's, that seems like a bit too much for me. My absolute max is 20%, because you need a very sick roi to play this in a winning fashion. How much money do you have, if i may ask? I don't know what the options are at FTP, but maybe you should try to find another type of game...

sorry i just can't believe that s.b. with AT is more likely to call an allin than a minraise, even if it is suspicious in this stage.^^

what you can do, is call with AA or KK, against a very aggressive opponent (also postflop aggression!!) who raises into your sb or bb. Then you push the flop. But I wouldn't advice you to play like that, because it's very tricky, and requires a good read.

My current bankroll is 165$. Normally i play 5$+0.5$ - 9sngs with great success so far. I just mix it up with some 1$ sngs if feel like them ;) I guess with that bankroll i can afford and. Of course i also play cash games from time to time, also with great success so far. Of course i have my up and downs, nevertheless i didn't have a loosing day for two weeks now, which encourages me to conduct further studies + playing more.
I guess i'll move up to 10$+1$ - 9 sngs with at least 250$.
G' night.

btw: the 1$ sngs are 45 players

good. move to cash if you have <25buy ins.

And move up to 10+1 once you have 500. I have 1300 and still play 10+1. But then again, i play 11 simultaniously...

Play mtt as soon as you can afford the 10% raked ones.

i suffered from a 300$ downswing on the 10+1s&g's and the 10+1 mtt's, so be careful!
