I think in general its very difficult to get a bank account in a country without either having a job there or being a student in that country.
Are you looking for a savings account or just a card that you can get money out of the machines with without paying a % charge on? If its the latter and you don't have one already I'm pretty sure Neteller has some sort of debit card with the main currency of £'s on. I guess that one probably has hidden fees on it as well though.
HSBC was pretty gay when I explained my situation, they wanted me to deposit something like 100k GBP in a savings account before they wanted me as a customer.
Natwest didn't have any problems with it and I could easily open an account there, don't know about the other banks.

Yeah, I'm still settling in. Obviously, browsing the forums i realise there are many great players here so generally trying to understand the strategy talk/slang.
Hope to post a few hands in the next week or so to get feedback, both winning and losing. Hopefully i make sense with my thoughts on each one.
Just a little about myself (if anybody is interested). I'm about to start studying psychology with the Open University, support The Super Rams, been playing poker regularly since around October time last year and love it.
Love my music, watch a movie or two, try to play guitar, want to learn piano and try to enjoy life.

Well yes, I'm not a good player either but since joining here I'm in profit. Still have a lot to learn from the strategy articles. Even after using the ICM trainer for S&G there are a few confusing spots in the mid/late stage i need to work on.
What kind of games do you play? I play the $3.30 90 man S&G at the moment, it's where i feel more competent and there is more chance of profit in comparison to cash games. The micro stakes at cash games are to wild.
I figure if people work together it benefits each other. My friend has also shown an interest for this site, he's played a bit of poker and wasn't to bad. I've floated around the site and read a blog about a few Slovak players teaming up and talking strategy, so would like to use that as an example for what can be done with a bit of teamwork.
I don't know how long they've been working together, but they recently went to the Philippines for a $1000'000 challenge between them.
Any English folks interested? Let me know. (not that i think we can get a million, but maybe we can all help improve each others game)

Modest poker education in the fact I have only read 2 books Super System2 and Gus Hansen.
Having said that though have had some pretty decent wins in mtts.
Wanting to improve my game in certain areas and feel that this is the right place.
Having read certain blogs I am sure I ought to put more volume in NL/OM/SNGS.
Looking to dip my toe in to high volume SNGS very soon, post SCOOP.
I play cash at micros, haven't got the patience for online tournaments, even SNGs. I'm very rusty as I hadn't played regularly since september before this month, so I'm running a bit poo, but I'm in a much more relaxed environment now, so I'm tilting MUCH less than I was.

I think you'll find quite a few more within range of Leicester too, but they just haven't posted yet or are currently too busy grinding etc.
My own personal knowledge of Leic is limited to the National Space Center I'm afraid. Popped in there for a visit on the way up to DTD in Nottingham last summer.
I'm right done on the south coast in Hampshire, but try to head north (well I can't go much further south without getting my feet wet ♦) as often as I can.
What poker variants and level are you currently playing? Maybe our hand judges can help you if you posted some hands from tricky situations or maybe pop into the free live coaching sessions.

i'm playing NL. i came back home to surrey for the summer and since i have nothing better to do i decided to dedicate basically the whole summer to learning poker so i went right back to the beginning because i wasn't very good at all. i know i won't have as much time to spend playing/learning when i go back in oct so i must use this time!
i have been playing on 2nl... i started with MSS and seemed to get the hang of it and built up from $20 to $50 on FTP then it died. so i deposited a little on stars and built it up to $50 and then decided to start playing BSS where i've come to a grinding *cough* halt. im posting in the hand evaluation forum and trying to use this site as much as i can. currently making notes on the bronze articles because over the last 15,000 hands im down $0.90 LOL.

From Wigan moving to leeds this september to start university so i will have plenty of time to grind I would of thought. Started on SNGs a couple of months ago but moved to NL micros as i think the SSS and MSS can get you up to a higher limit quicker where better play is rewarded .... i think.
Hope to make some decent money at this to fund my student life (ale and crisp) good to see an english section on PS hope to be getting some good advice on poker here.

I think you're probably right in that cash tables potentially take a little less time than Sng's, especially the regular ones and when multi-tabling. It is all relative however and just ensure that you follow a sensible BRM (Bankroll Management) as you can potentially lose quicker too 
I'm personally not a great cash table player I've been more of a Sng grinder in the past and occasional mtt tournament player more recently. Play more for fun/social side of things these days due to time restraints/other real life stuff etc.
We do however have lots of hugely experienced community members and coaches that are all really friendly and keen to help fellow members.
As well as the live coaching sessions & hand judging mentioned to Dr D above, I can highly recommend reading through a few members blogs. They're great reassurance when going through a bad spell to see others making it out the other side with persistence and after sorting out potential leaks etc.
With both you & Dr D, I would urge you both to keep an open mind and spend time digesting the strategy guides. In the early weeks it's much more important to concentrate on your game and ironing out any slight leaks than aiming for any specific profit etc.
Everything you learn & improve on the lower stakes costs you less and you will reap the rewards when moving up.
Will follow your progress with interest, welcome once again.
Oh and Good luck at University, as in poker... Study hard, play well & enjoy

this is a longshot but anyone ever hear/know anything about the reigate poker club? its called the full house. would be interesting if someone is nearby!
