@Tim64: Yeah true, poker is always an eternal struggle with your own mind

I think I will continue to look at my winnings just for convenience sake. Still haven't broken my rule for avoiding looking at cashier DURING a session. So many times I look at it and see I'm down a few k, and I'm OH SHIT TIME TO GET THE MONEY BACK. Then i start spazzing, like yesterday. Though I will try my best to stop blogging about running under EV, setups and all those type of unnecessary nonsense. Completely detrimental to my development as a player

Today's session
3k hands, 4-8 tables, Pokerstars + Merge, 5.5h

I think the past few days have shown me that I am fully capable of beating Midstakes 2/4 3/6 and I am quite aware on how to adapt/exploit/mind fuck as long as I'm playing A game. I wouldn't have gotten crushed so hard if I kept my cool and avoided playing imbalanced.

My overbets are still working nicely, did one vs TwoPairWin|) today and it worked. just goes to show how badly wrecked my image is from the past 2 months.

Today's the first time I pulled off such a long session since 2-3 weeks ago (and it's not because I was stuck). So I feel quite good for motivating myself.

Some changes

I will stop posting biggest winning and losing hand, it just emphasizes the unimportant things. Instead I will post 2 well-played hands and 2 badly-played hands. Hopefully we start to see the badly-played hands decrease in pot-size which would mean that I am spewing off less money.

And perhaps I will pick a random guy to analyze each week, spending 10-20 min looking thru his hands each day. I'm seriously getting irritated by some guy who Minbets and minraises super wide range. Need to work on my game on how to punish those guys who raise super wide OOP and call a lot of 3bets.

Another Area to work on

When I'm focused I can read HEM hand histories really quickly and take down notes rapidly. as long as I'm not in a relaxed autopilot mode. so i should try to keep my focus as long as possible.

hmm I was really playing very loose and aggressive this session, 32/27/15 and I got away with it for some reason. Shipped some deep 130BB stacks preflop with AK vs Al3x4nd3rT. He doesn't seem to 4bet bluff all that much but given my image I just had to do it. Also 5bet jammed 125BB with A5s after I squeezed, not too sure if it's spazz or not. oh well, 30% equity isn't too shabby

other than that I made a nice bluff catch. Just felt that many aggro guys would barrel AQ/AK on the turn with their 2 overs + gutter to fold out my TX/7X/88/99/random draws

STUD Poker is about making good folds early so that your losses don't accumulate unnecessarily on every street.

can't seem to win at razz. making some mistakes and paying an unfair amount of the bring-ins hurt me a lot too. I watched RainManTrail's video and I felt confident to I went to play 5/10 Razz. I think I ended up making a lot of mistakes and I'm not sure what type of edge I could possibly have since there were a few regs there, but probably they have a good amount of leaks.

I also made many some calls in Razz and PLO, but honestly I have NFI why I lost 200$ at Razz, I don't think I made any major mistakes. Hopefully it's only because I got unlucky with the bring-ins + getting crappy 4th streets. I think I made some decent steals and I avoided playing too loose OOP and stole the blinds when I had a strong door card.

1) Wonder if I can fold 7th street, I called cos I saw the 9 out there but I think there's a very good chance that he would have some lower hole cards and he would probably check behind with 9XXXX, I was hoping he was randomly betting at me since people are generally not good at Razz

3) I highly suspect I might have misplayed this hand but I'm not sure if I can fold on the earlier streets and after I got such a nice river I should never be folding???

Using Rainman's point system, I have A83 (6+6+2), +2 points for pairing of door card and -2 points for 2 of my low outs being dead which means my 14 points is strong enough to open from UTG.

4th street is obv some nuts so I continue betting. He suddenly donks out 5th street at me which indicates that all his 2 hole cards are probably low. I made the call rather easily but I think my 8 hurts a lot. Then again he might end up having a broadway on 5th street and I will have a good chance of winning the hand so I call. 6th street hurts me like fuck and I don't know if I should ever contemplate bluffraising here to rep the wheel and bet River. I think calling here isn't too good esp when he got another lower card

In retrospect 6th street is when I should have folded. I would have saved myself 2 bets

4) Fairly standard PLO fold I think, under normal circumstances vs PLO regs. I just stacked off cos the PFR was FOS and trying to abuse the table in NLHE earlier. And given the type of hand he raised and called me with (not sure if he should be calling/folding in this spot), I think it's very plausible that he does this shit with naked overpairs

looked at my PTR today, I'm down 5k+ now only and I'm gonna bring it back to the green soon. What's noteworthy is that my NL400/600 SH are now profitable which is pretty cool. And I look at my NL1k (-12k) and I am filled with regrets :(

Can't wait for Macau Action on 31 May. A friend has promised to lend me as much HKD as I need so I don't need to change so much myself and lose money to the spread. I also tend to play better when I have a larger bankroll. And I will be playing 100/200 HKD if possible (12/25 USD) so if everything turns out fine I expect at least a 10-20k profit in 50 hours (i'm gonna grind 10h+ a day I think).

And apparently my friend got invited to have lunch with Team PokerStars Asia which is pretty cool and he's asking if I could come along. He also managed to somehow luckbox a seat into the Macau Main Event so good luck to him

You posted the wrong hand in number 3.

Good to see some mixed game analysis here :)

Hand 1: I suspect you have to call down, he could easily have paired up at least once and you are getting 8.5-1

Hand 2: looks nice

PLO hand : I suck at this game :f_biggrin:

@goldchess: u play a lot of mixed games too? thanks for commenting on my hands. I will start playing way more Razz and Stud so we can discuss hands in the future. Right now I am mostly learning basics + autopiloting, still can't read steal frequencies and all that yet.

Session
I think I played decent today. Made some borderline spewy preflop shoves but still think it's alright. Maybe splashed another few hundred too but other than that it was ok. Also played quite aggressive again, 31/25/11. I should mix it up because playing tighter is more +EV, but playing looser helps to create favourable metagame.

1) Reg is never strong here, Fish has low WTSD and sizing looks weak so I decided to bluff here with my gutshot and fold out an Ace. I think my Play is decent and I probably don't need to raise so big.

2) I should have just cbetted this. BDFD + 5 outs + BDSD is so good for me. As played I'm really in a FML spot on the turn cos I knew that majority of 5X crushes me. Maybe I should count them here. I can safely say he has 5X here 90%+ of the time because of flop sizing (indicating 2nd/3rd pair) and turn minraise (indicating trips+)

What 5X hands would a 68% VPIP player play?
Probably folding 85/95/T5/J5
Playing Q5/K5/A5/65 (15 combos)
Playing 35/45 (6 combos)
Maybe playing 25 (3 combos)

I'm clearly getting crushed by this range so I should just bet/fold Turn

3) I actually bet small with the intention of folding. Yesterday I made like 3 hero folds (with 10-15% insane river odds). But I stupidly called here, I'm actually calling to chop. Lazy to calculate the EV but I'm getting 18% and 18% is kind of high for this spot where he insta shoved which means his range is highly weighted towards flushes. Besides I am going to split with a fair amount of straights too which doesn't work in my favour (cos I rather beat some worse made hand).

4) I think I should have stabbed the flop. I can't imagine villain ever going for a checkraise in this spot when we are so deep and I don't think he will ever check an overpair here so he is never strong. I also think he would probably flat suited connectors or small pairs OOP which makes me super strong on this board.

As played I might want to call cos i have AK high which either chops with his range or crushes his random crap

Since Merge is no longer accepting US players, I see no point in staying. The software wasn't all that bad but my primary motivation for playing there was so that I could have juicy games in the morning but anyway the games at Stars are looking pretty juicy at the moment so I'm getting out of Merge and moving to Ipoker where I would play at night. monies still stuck at FTP so I'll just have to wait patiently.

@TobyCS: Maybe I read the news wrong. They are NOT accepting new players from the US but perhaps current players can still play there. Anyway I run bad at Merge and the games aren't exactly super soft. A few skins have stopped accepting players too. I've already withdrawn my money thx to stupid FTP freezing up my funds.

I have decided to start posting at 2p2 Stud forums, hopefully I can improve even more. Lost 40$ in 15-20 mins while eating dinner and watching RainMainTrail's HU Razz video. I really liked it.

I think I played well. Many players made a lot of mistakes vs me but end of session went bad, suddenly kept losing pots for no good reason. I lost the 2 biggest pots to 4rdin who was always playing induce/trappy vs me. I forgot everything I know about him after not playing Rush for so long. this is the biggest disadvantage I will have when I play so many sites - The regs remember me but I forget stuff about them. And rush is so fast that I usually dont have enough time to read all the notes.

I have 104k FTPs. The last time round I used 200k to buy a 1k bonus. Now I still cannot afford a $500 bonus. Anyone knows what's the best way to spend it?

1) Cooler but it shows how badly he wants to induce action

Im getting upset over this. I believe I have some edge vs those guys even at 5/10 and despite the fact that I have no FLHE experience. Can't seem to pull off a win at all.

1) I think I messed up by folding. Only 2 low cards behind initial raiser so he should be opening fairly wide + i have 14 points

4) We can put Villain on 62X or 52X more or less when he 4bets 3rd street. I bet 4th cos my 86XX > his T5XX or T6XX. I misplayed 5th I think, should have check/called cos I have Ace blocker which means he is not going to pair the Ace so often, which means he has a T5XXX/T6XXX made hand with a 5 or 6 high draw so he's gonna 3bet me a lot. With the 3 on 6th street I'm pretty much screwed so I muck.

5) I won this hand but I played like utter crap.

3rd: I defend cos villain is going to steal with his 4 a lot.
4th: I bet out cos he could easily have a brick in his hole and he would give up instantly
5th: he has a decent chance of having 98XXX made hand cos I think he would fold 4th if he had a break. So he has a 8X draw with what's likely to be a made 98XXX. In comparison I have a 97 draw. This bet by me is TERRIBLE. He's never folding + I'm putting in money as an underdog.
6th: It's pretty clear he's never folding. Of course he might have a brick in the hole if he's terrible but i doubt it.
7th: SUCKOUT. Looks like I was crushed the whole hand

@HannesNL: :)
i withdrew some, and I sold 5k Stars for 5.35k FTP to my friend. Is this a good deal? I dont think FTP is gonna bust yet so I accepted.

80 min 523 hands NL400/600 SH FTP

Ended session 32/28/13. Starting to drift back to high variance mode which I kind of dislike since I have been really consistent throughout the week. I made a very questionable c/c c/c c/shove, turning my toppair into a bluff on a 4straight+3suit board. Villain tanked/called with his onecard straight.

After that I foolishly 3barrel AJ after squeezing on KXXQX and he called me down too with KJo (terrible preflop call by him I think). I was running at 45/35/20 but I still think he shouldn't defend KJo despite his positional advantage.

Last hand, I 3barrel potsize with T7s (TP+FD) on TXXsXK and he c/c me down with 66. So at least I won a bit back but too bad it was BU v BB and I min-raised so the pot was really small.

I think if I had the discipline to fold I would have been up a few hundred this session. I tried to continue playing since I had position on this villain on most of the tables and take advantage of the favourable metagame but he left.

Flight tomorrow
0600 hrs, gonna have to sleep at 2300 probably after going to bed at 0200-0400 for past week. I hope to be able to start playing as soon as I check into the hotel. and I haven't done any research yet. Wonder if Macau has anything interesting to see. If not I will just be grinding 10-12h/day at the casino

I am also considering doing a video series. So everyday after playing, I will try my best to recall the interesting hands and perhaps create some hand history video. And I will also try to give detailed descriptions about each villain - his mannerisms, personality, behaviour etc. I actually wanted to do one for the Vegas trip in Jan but I got really lazy.

KJo has around 45-50% EQ vs your 20% 3b range (depends a bit if completely merged or a bit more pola) + positional advantage, so i think he should defend that hand vs a maniac like u and treat any tp as nuts and call down any 2nd pair.

position def adds 25% eq, so its clearly +ev to call vs u i assume.

what range do u think he should call?

i think any broadway combo plays better than sc or mid pairs cuz u rep those cards every time

edit: one thing i dont understand: why dont u just play way tighter? ppl are like u on 2/4-10/20. outlevelling themselves anyway all the time. play solid hands, solid ranges, dont tilt and dont make stupid bluffs. ppl wont make the most heroic hero folds vs sb with your stats - esp after they saw some showdowns.
nobody said 45/35 is more profitable than 24/19. might be cooler, but not as profitable vs semi thinking opponents

@ macao: what stakes are u going to play? any brm?

And apparently my friend got invited to have lunch with Team PokerStars Asia which is pretty cool and he's asking if I could come along. He also managed to somehow luckbox a seat into the Macau Main Event so good luck to him

@TwiceT: thanks for the advice. wise words which describe my biggest leaks lol. I was playing much better when I was playing <30 VPIP. I also think I don't play on FTP enough to justify such Gear switching since I would not play vs those guys again

http://oneweekinmacau.blogspot.com/ (WARNING, MEGA WALL OF TEXT, though most of you who read this blog should know by now, I am long-winded)
Some random RL and Poker adventures. I should learn to summarize and cut down

just to highlight a few differences between Macau and Vegas:
Macau has >90% Chinese, Vegas has like 70% whites 15% asians and 15% hispanics
Macau idiots like to smoke at tables, IIRC vegas tables do not allow smoking or at least it's less rampant from my not too distant memory
Chinese love Baccarat, Americans play more varied games
I think Vegas buildings look better on the outside since I hate the Chinese/HongKong Architecture design, but Macau's interior looks much newer and modern.
I only went to Wynn and Star Galaxy and GL today, so far all the random performers in the hotel/casinos were white people which was quite puzzling since Macau is in china.

And GL's room is imba, you can even shit and watch TV at the same time (yeah it's that baller, an extra TV set in the toilet bowl compartment of the washroom).

hm i got lazy to upload pics, though I uploaded them onto facebook. I played some 10/25 at GL and 50/100 at Wynn. Lost 1.5k USD. i made a few minor mistakes but on the whole I just ran badly and couldn't make anything happen.

I'm gonna borrow 50k tmr to play 50/100 again. I don't think I am going to play 100/200 unless I run my stack up really high. 50/100 is 6/13 and 100/200 is like 12/25 which is quite insane. I still don't feel all that comfortable walking around with like 10k USD in my pockets, what if I suddenly got robbed or targetted by some thiefs?
