most big cities in the UK have good night life, ive been out to most of the places ppl suggested here & had good nights and choosing elsewhere could easily mean halving your rent costs (and costs of most other things like food & beer). For example im currently renting the sort of place you'd be after, 1 bedroom w/ kitchen/living room @ £425 a month, though youd probably pay a bit more to be within walking or bus/metro distance depending on the city.
