[Closed] Police

Ok now watch this

Once upon a time i was skating with my friends in front of one supermarket,we was grinding and jumping some box's while other 3-4 guys (unknown) seating in a car and smoking weed. So 2 Police officers come to me and starting to yell really loudly,something like WTF you stupid fuck and starting to slam my sk8 from the ground. Then the other guy comes to me and ask for my ID and i give him and they write me a 50$ ticket for disturbing the neighborhood while the same guys still smoke their weed and laugh loudly to me
And that neighborhood is totally out of population. NO FUCKING BUILDINGS AND HOUSES IN AREA OF 500m !!!

they obviously told you this AFTER searching your bag?... my guess is it was a bluff. Police are paid to catch you, not protect you. Aside from you being out at a late hour, they likely had no probable cause to search your bag. Often times they will trick you into giving up your rights in order to cut corners. Learn to be more careful.

Yeah but the supermarket was boarded up the next day so it wasn't a bluff in this case I think. So are you saying that they don't actually have the right to search your bag? I probably phrased it badly, they asked me to take everything out of my bag and they said the same to a girl who was with us, so they didn't exactly "search" me

The police indeed does not have the right to search your bag themselfs, but they do have the right to ask you to open it up for them. Obviously you don't have to show it to them but in this case they can just detain you for 24 hours untill they get the warrant from the judge or whatever so your still better off just showing it to them. Some of it depends on the country but im pretty sure they can arest you on suspision if they find you near a crime sceene in most contries.

Basically, this is a good example of you forfeiting your rights and its an unfortunately common mistake.

edit: I'll admit its possible things played out exactly like you say... but it sounds all to much like a common scenario of a cop wanting to search your bags and coming up with any excuse he can to do so.

Common tactic for cops rousting people is to search them and claim they're investigating something else. They find milk on you? Somebody stole milk.
Find an unopened liquor bottle? Somebody broke into a liquor store.
Don't sweat it.

When I had just got my drivers license, I got pulled over by 4 cops w/ guns drawn. This is RCMP in Canada in the 70s They NEVER drew their weapons unless the suspect was known to be armed. I was scared out of my wits. Someone had used a car identical to mine in a bank robbery. Just a case of mistaken identity on their part, but I was cops made me real nervous for a long time.

It's weird because at first it was just me and my friend running to catch up with the rest of the group, they pulled up beside us at traffic lights and asked us what was in our bags and why we were running, so we told them and they drove off. Then a few minutes later after we had caught up with the group we saw their car drive past us, going in the direction we had just come from and we were like "ok, they're just making sure we're not doing anything dodgy now with the paint or whatever" and THEN, they turned around, came back our way, and that's when they pulled over and they all got out of the car and took my details.

About the searching though, surely it would just be better if I'm innocent to just show them what's in my bag? Why is that a mistake? I'd rather just show them that I have nothing to hide then be detained for 24 hours?

Wow, that would have scared the shit out of me did you get out of the car with your hands behind your head and all that? How long was it before they realised it was the wrong person?

I thought they had the right to search you as long as they tell you their name and number and they have a strong belief/reason to be searching you e.g. "We suspect you are carrying a weapon" or "we believe you are dealing class A drugs etc"

I was sure this was right anyway and i agree with it personally i dont want people dealing drugs carrying weapons or even carrying out mindless vandalism anywhere near me. (I'm not saying you were btw ) Oh and i just realised you said some of it depends on the country so yeah i think what i said is right in the uk anyway

Wow, serious shit. Funny thing is they haven't ever caught me doing something I shouldn't be doing, but they always stop me for no good reason Like it's illegal to cycle home while drunk here and I've done that about 25 times, once I even woke up in someone's driveway, and I've never gotten caught. But I've been stopped and questioned so many times for no good reason

Just follow this guideline and you should be good
