Hmmm, that appartement does look decent I guess. ♦ just the bathroom looks like its from the 60's or something ♦ When I started looking around for appartements I suddenly understood why dandycal once told me "wow, everything is so neat in europe" when I showed him a picture of my house (and I don't live anywhere special).

heh, this is a matter of perspective. I leave in Edinburgh and just the other day commented to a friend "I'm spoiled because most apartments in Brazil are so new...". Indeed that one looks more like late 70's early 80's, but I've seen some flats here in Edinburgh that didn't see refurbishment in the last 5 or 6 decades. One of them didn't even have a heating system

Everyone makes brazil sound scary. Like when i spoke with one of my friends about it he said "id prolly get mugged every day" (he looks typicly scandinavian). Guess we'd better install a safe or something and lock up all our stuff
Well, even if you don't take care you won't get mugged everyday - even though it will probably happen a few times. If you do take care, well, it might as well happen but odds go down a lot
A safe might be a bit too much, and if you live in an apartment it's always much, much safer than a house. But one thing for sure is I wouldn't walk around with fancy/expensive mobile phones - unless you really don't care if you lose it. Things like that, whatch out for mobiles/purses/wallets even inside restaurants, etc.
I don't want to make it sound awful (even though in some sense it is, like walking around at night in most areas is a no-no), but it's just a heads up as for experience europeans tend to be muuuuch more distracted with their stuff than they should be in Brazil - and of course those with bad intentions can spot that miles away.
(sometimes we are too. I worked in a bank once, as a bank clerk. Left my mobile on the desk for like 30s while I went to the back to grab some papers. Not many people were around, and some of my collegues were in their desks as well, nothing unusual. Went there and back, no mobile anymore - and no one saw a thing. And mind that banks are, or are supposed to be, somewhat safe places...)
One English friend of mine went to the beach and got quite surprised to have her flip-flops nicked while she took a quick swim at the sea. Yes, people would even grab cheap flip-flops if they are looking somewhat alone and abandoned on the sand
