Well hopefully I can get some backup from a few people on here as well as people who know the softness of 888. As I said, a stake for NL30 wouldn't really be worth it, but for NL50 it would 1000% better off than me grinding NL10 (Which tbh isn't doing my poker skills any good as it's all ridiculously easy decisions really) I'm gonna do a few calculations as to some reasonable winrates + rakeback at NL10 and NL50 and see which would bring in the most money if I were to take 50% of NL50 winnings (Don't think I would be able to get more than 50% at the start due to me not having a large winning sample).

I have a inkling that I will be applying for a stake tonight

By the way, I'm Brazilian. Just in case you need something there.

I'm living in Scotland right now (I know, I know), but I think I've learnt a couple of things on the almost 30 years I lived there

And $400 a month for living costs? You mean, per person? Where are you planning to live, Copacabana by the beach? (if that's a yes I'd suppose grinding will be seriously affected...)

No, no. Sorry, I might have made myself misunderstood.

If you are 3 people with $400 each a month, that's $1200, or roughly R$2.000,00 / month.

You can rent a moderate sized house with that in most places (but São Paulo or central/touristic areas of Rio)!

Depending on where you want to live you can comfortably find a decent apartment/flat for 2/3 that, at most.

I lived in Porto Alegre before and paid like $500/month for a whole one bedroom/double living room duplex/penthouse flat, very nice and well located (I actually tried to buy it but the owner wouldn't sell :( ).

oh, lol

well we plan to move to Florianopolis, which is said to be one of the more expensive locations in brazil. I had a look at some website my friend gave me where they rented out appartements and the appartement I found was around that price. But it's all in portuguese so I only bothered looking a little bit so far

hmm, yeah, Florianopolis can get quite expensive - especially if you look for perfect location, because the island and many of the beaches are getting quite crowded.

But take a look at this. Just an example of "ok" location, 3 bedrooms, balcony, close car park (which you can probably rent yourself and save some $ but better check first), semi-furnished, for ~1.420 with fees and tax. That's U$835 for 3 people, or U$280 each.

Anyway, indeed if you look for city center (not great @ Florianopolis) or some fancy beach it can get expensive indeed. One thing: I would avoid looking for places from October and especially November onwards as it's the beginning of summer there and it might bet harder and way more expensive to find anything. editThings then cool down after carnaval, more or less end of Feb and beginning of March. /edit

All in all, if you need any help, let me know. You guys can contact me via commu tools and we exchange skypes, etc. I can also get you in touch with some recreational players in Florianopolis, they might be of assistance :f_thumbsup:

(and one more thing: look our for your wallets, passports and laptops. At *all* times. And never leave your house but fully locked even when you're inside. Just in case. :f_cool: )

Hmmm, that appartement does look decent I guess. just the bathroom looks like its from the 60's or something When I started looking around for appartements I suddenly understood why dandycal once told me "wow, everything is so neat in europe" when I showed him a picture of my house (and I don't live anywhere special).

thank you very much for your tips, very helpful indeed :) we were planning on mid/end feb so I guess if we make it end feb/begin march that suits perfect then! We were thinking of getting a hotel at first and then maybe find a real estate agent or whatever its called to show us around and find us somehting nice. ^^

Everyone makes brazil sound scary. Like when i spoke with one of my friends about it he said "id prolly get mugged every day" (he looks typicly scandinavian). Guess we'd better install a safe or something and lock up all our stuff ?(

you got me all excited now, talking about it! :f_love:

heh, this is a matter of perspective. I leave in Edinburgh and just the other day commented to a friend "I'm spoiled because most apartments in Brazil are so new...". Indeed that one looks more like late 70's early 80's, but I've seen some flats here in Edinburgh that didn't see refurbishment in the last 5 or 6 decades. One of them didn't even have a heating system :O

Well, even if you don't take care you won't get mugged everyday - even though it will probably happen a few times. If you do take care, well, it might as well happen but odds go down a lot :P

A safe might be a bit too much, and if you live in an apartment it's always much, much safer than a house. But one thing for sure is I wouldn't walk around with fancy/expensive mobile phones - unless you really don't care if you lose it. Things like that, whatch out for mobiles/purses/wallets even inside restaurants, etc.

I don't want to make it sound awful (even though in some sense it is, like walking around at night in most areas is a no-no), but it's just a heads up as for experience europeans tend to be muuuuch more distracted with their stuff than they should be in Brazil - and of course those with bad intentions can spot that miles away.

(sometimes we are too. I worked in a bank once, as a bank clerk. Left my mobile on the desk for like 30s while I went to the back to grab some papers. Not many people were around, and some of my collegues were in their desks as well, nothing unusual. Went there and back, no mobile anymore - and no one saw a thing. And mind that banks are, or are supposed to be, somewhat safe places...)

One English friend of mine went to the beach and got quite surprised to have her flip-flops nicked while she took a quick swim at the sea. Yes, people would even grab cheap flip-flops if they are looking somewhat alone and abandoned on the sand ;)

Thanks for all the Brazil information luiz

Unfortunately i've got to go and serve happy people their meals and drinks tonight, missing a good night out as well :( I'll be stood behind the bar, bored out of my skull and trying to look busy for 5 hours or so in order to collect minimum wage. Oh yes I love it :f_mad:

Oh well, it's actually earning me more like £60 instead of £30 as I won't be going out and spending £30

Hi Wriggers,

Great blog, i've been following for a while.

I've got a question if you don't mind answering... How long do you spend playing every week? Especially now you have more free time?

:)

Haha I actually have LESS free time now, with working for my Dad all day, every day I only have the evenings to play. But I still manage to fit in about 3 hours a night or something. For example, last week I played just under 25 hours, also studied an hour or so a night aswell.

That's pretty good going I guess!

It does seem that the place where a lot of new good players learn poker is when they're meant to be studying something else at uni

Wish I had been into poker when I was at school. I would have just done photography and taken pictures of my house while I grind.

Would've failed, but would have many years of epic poker sessions behind me

Fuck this working shizzle. The sooner I start crushing NL400 and don't have to do shifts at the pub the better xD

Got my Moneybookers limit increased so when i've made a 24h Poker account I can deposit and start playing some NL25 (At first) and shortly after some NL50.

Was working last night, shift ended and I thought "Sod it, i'm going out" so I did, and spent more than i'd earned that night in the 4 hours I was out and ended up not sleeping a wink, going home in the morning as I was supposed to be taking my brother to his football match. Obviously because of the sickening amount of rain the match was cancelled so I ended up sitting in my room suffering and watching films all day before my working shift tonight And I finish up tonight to find out i'm working tomorrow lunch time. Bahhhhhh! :f_mad: :f_mad:

Also, forgot to post it in my last post. Me and vonki have had (at the moment) a very brief discussion (Yeah, I was too hungover and shortly going to work to discuss it properly ) about mentoring a micro stakes player between us. I think this dual mentoring will obviously help the player being mentored, and will hopefully give me some sort of coaching experience. Maybe one day i'll be a poker coach worth paying for, so this isn't a bad start :P

Any dedicated individual who feels they would benefit from this apply either in here or in vonki's blog :)

Have I correctly put two and two together to deduce that your father owns/runs a pub?
If so, I have only one thing to say: must be f'n nice ;)

EDIT: No Tim, unfortunately not. My day job at the moment is working for my Dad in building our new kitchen extension, my evening job is working at a local pub behind the bar
