Don't 4bet here , better 4b with worste hand because with 88 you have some equity to see set and you want to get good potodds to call and implied odds. I like to call it if I know that player doing this for pure value VS old nitty man 
Versus this player I fold this. On flop usually you will have tough decision and often flop won't help you. If he 3b a lot and CB flop = 85-100% and CB Turn 10-30% then you can try call 3b and float him on Turn or get cheap showdown value since you play IP.
you´re deep, so shove seems like very bad to me.
You´re risking a lot (40$) to win 3$. Standard play would be call there ip and play postflop.
You can always make moves on the flop if you think his 3-bet range is wide and he can´t stand heat.

ip I would likely not really turn 88 into bluff.
I can always do that postflop if I feel he is c-betting or barreling too often at any flop. I´d rather take A4o that has blocker to his 3-bet value hands like AQ/AJ or AK and out that way heat his wide 3-bet range
