Choosing the right Poker Room for you!

Hi, i'm playing omaha PL25, rake ~1k/month, i'm currently playing at stars but offer sucks and i don't have tracked account with pokerstrategy, are there any other alternatives?

I would have to say William Hill for overall value. My reasons would be:

a) Software isnt too bad, not quite as good as Stars, but acceptable.
b) The traffic is pretty good for PLO on iPoker
c) The First Deposit bonus will provide a good amount of rakeback, especially for PLO players who generate rake very quickly.
d) The VIP system is very rewarding month on month, meaning you can expect at least 30% flat at your volume, plus FDB on top, plus all promotions. Also, as William Hill is 5 SP room, you will be able to compete for our Top250 promotion (may need to up your rake a bit to cash in, but the opportunity is there at least) plus we have regular promotions with William Hill such as raked hand races, which you would most likely get a few additional % from.

Table softness isnt really an issue with PLO to be honest. Its pretty soft everywhere from what I hear!

I created a new thread for this, but thought I would ask it hear incase you guys can give a quick easy answer and then the mod can delete the post.

I tried to make a deposit on 888 and then on Stars, and both times it said the transaction was blocked by my bank. I've learned that the bank (Canadian) block gambling transactions.

What is the workaround for this?

In truth, I am not sure, however I would suggest that you create a Moneybookers account through us, move your desired funds to there and then deposit via them.

I would expect this would work because Moneybookers is an E-Wallet, so not a gambling transaction and then Moneybookers wont block your deposit.

I tried to create a MB account, not sure how to do it through PS though.

When I tried to send money to my account, it asked what transaction is for. Non-Gambling use, or gambling use. It says if you don't select gambling use, the funds cannot be used to with gambling merchants. Clicked OK and then it says denied by my bank.

Starting to tilt....

The only thing I can suggest is to contact your bank and find out why they are declining your transactions.

The Moneybookers method should have worked, because they dont share your choice of "Gambling or Non-Gambling" with your bank as far as I know.

So i've decided i want to change to a new site,

I play micro stakes , ( NL2 or NL4) Just grinding up my bank roll however now that I'm playing on a mac 888 Poker's instant play doesn't do it for me so i need a new room. Here are the requirements

1. Must have its own mac client.

2. Needs to have lots of trafic

3.Needs to have a good VIP System and rewards

4. Must easily be able to have two tables open at a time

5. A good Deposit bonus

I am looking for a new room. I want to be able to open up to 6 tables without a problem. Multitabling friendly software is helpfull but not essential (i currently play on Poker heaven and i can deal with that crappy software). Good rewards and a good VIP system would be nice but the most important thing i'm looking for is soft competition.

I don't want any of these rooms: Pokerstars, Party poker, Poker heaven, everest, iPoker network. Thanks.

EDIT: I play NL50 and NL100 shorthanded

I think entraction network has one of the softest competitions... right now there are 20+ NL50 6-max tables and ~20 NL100 6-max tables. Software is very basic, but I personally like it 'cause it is written in JAVA. PokerStrategy only offers one room 24h poker, but there are many skins in entraction network.

I have narrowed the options to 24h, Europoker and 888. I'll wait for some more opinions and I'll take a better look into these rooms. I'll probably just open an account next month, so i have plenty of time to research.

I personally wouldn't advise switching from Party to Stars. I have been a regular at Stars playing $7.50 NL9 turbo FR. I had a shot on Party ($6 NL10 speed FR) due to them decreasing their rake. Some plays I see on Party are so so bad, and I find there are so many more fishes than on Stars. My WR/H has increased significantly!!! The only problem is I can't seem to multi table as many games on Party than on Stars, but the amount of fishes on Party compared to Stars definitely make up for that!

Very specific requirements there Currently asking around to verify which poker rooms support MacOS.

For the other questions, I would suggest William Hill on iPoker (just checking Macs work on there). A good First Deposit Bonus, the best cash game traffic outside of Stars and the VIP system is more rewarding at th low-mid volumes/stakes than other places such as 888 or Party.

Generally I encourage people at these limits to ignore the rakeback % however and play to increase their win-rate. This is going to generally be done on soft sites, such as PKR, where I think the traffic is good enough to always find enough tables. The minimum requirements for a mac to use their software can be found here.

I would expect a return of 20-25% rakeback from the VIP system and First Deposit Bonus however, which isnt as high as you can find elsewhere. Imo, having a higher win-rate is more important than rb, since an increase in win-rate = much more money than an extra 30% rb. I am here to help you find the right place for you though, so will always try and fit my recommendations to your requirements.

So I would suggest WH mate. Good all round choice for traffic, VIP system and FDB. Will post back here as soon as I hear back from our contact at iPoker about Mac support. I strongly doubt they would fail to make it usable for Mac owners though.
