PokerStars now the only place to play longterm?

Hey Quadzzzzzzz,

There is no doubt that PokerStars.com is the "Elite" poker room being offered atm.
But, I don't believe it's the only place to get those juicy prizepools and where all the fishys lay.

Take these two sites for example:

888Poker
It has the world's largest online casino: Casino-on-Net. So a lot of casino players end up making their way to the poker tables.

PKR
This is the most virtual and real Poker site around ATM. There is a bunch of social players here because it's enjoyable and fun.
So the average player here wouldn't know much about the fundamentals of the game.

Everyone is each to their own of course but don't feel you "have to" play PokerStars.com just because everyone else is.

Its true, but I just believe that its a lot easier to find the players and tournaments you want. My limited experience of PartyPoker has showed me that its a reg pool, and if you want to play tournaments there or PLO, its a lot harder to do so because of a lack of tables.

i play pokerstars becoz of the traffic, kinda lazy to wait player registering for a SNG 10max table like party poker, take ages to full table.

Of course if u are good enough winning a lot $$$ pokerstars may even invite u for the VIP team.

Beside recently, after the BF, pokerstars did show they can pay players. That is more star for them.

Pokerstars is the hardest place to play as there is so many poker players orientated anf people that make some effort in study.

888 POker was a paradise for the amount of fishes swimming around but latest the level as increase thanks to many advices given out like the one on this thread and latest has become a bit more hard to play even there.

So, my beg is, can you please stop send good players on the room?

It will be great if you can direct people somewhere else.

i play stars kinda wish i new about this site before singing up there . then my stuatus could change im currently a bronze looking for another site to play on via pokerstrategy and 888 poker mgiht be the one .

Be wary of 888, they have a history of freezing accounts without much reason besides the free money it gets them.

Yeah and none of these other sites have similar software quality that stars do. Not to mention everything else stars offers (support etc.) At least Full Tilts software was on a par as well as a decent level of traffic!

Why do people constantly praise the software of stars? Imo it's absolutely dreadful compared to say, partypoker. Stacking console alone is one of the THE best inventions of online poker, and should be a standard feature in every poker room. After you've tried stacking console for a few days, you just can't go back...

Also the person saying partypoker doesn't have fish... I don't know what limit you play on, maybe it's different in NL100 and above, but micros are absolutely LOADED with fish.

Full Ring = regs

SH = 90% fish

If you want fishy FR tables, join the empty 9-max tables yourself, then go from HU-SH-to FR. By the time it's FR, it's got way more fish than joining a pre-existing FR table.

About 888. When I joined it was a paradise. Then came the black friday and the lockdown of FT and all the small rooms began to work their arses off to attract all the players hanging. So basically as I've heard 888 started a large campain through affiliates to offer new players instant and permanent VIP status. Since then the place is rather miserable and reg-infested, aka Stars 2. Stopped playing there.

Cheers for that. I'd think a multimillion industry would have more clever ways of marketing tbh.

I was just looking for peoples opinions, which is why I posted with a question mark. More a discussion than anything. I'm not the most knowledgeable, i've only just turned 18 as a matter of fact which is why i'm still basic!

But my first impressions comparing sites is that if you wanna find fish, there will be more where there are more players. I'm not talking about ratio of regs/fish here, just saying the number is higher. Also, if you're looking for tourneys, stars looks the only decent place to me. Unless you want to mix between the sites. Unsure about SnGs though.

As you can see from the varied replies here, definitely many other viable rooms to settle down in. We have diamond and black members who have made Party Poker and Ipoker and even Ongame Network as their home.

If you are just starting at the lowest levels, you can really choose from all the rooms because traffic would be enough (It's not like you will play a million tables altogether) and there is always plenty of fish at the lowest stakes.

why don't you review this thread and post your own questions there? might help you get info from the people who have a lot of experience in different rooms.

I like PKR for the tourneys. Decent variety and as its a smaller community, theres some nice rewrds like having a monthly tournament named after you if you finish top of their MTT ranking table. Not so keen on the cash side of it as the software can make it difficult to multi-table - on my setup at least.

Yes, PokerStars is by far the biggest Poker room online right now. Does that necessarily mean that it's the only place to play? I don't think so.

I think what people tend to think less about is personal needs and wishes when choosing a room. Choosing a room is way more +EV than just joining a room because everyone plays on it.

Oh well, if 888 is reginfested now as well it's definitely not worth it. The fish factor was the only good thing they had going for them.

Well, it's not totally reg infested but the fishiness at NL50+ isn't that big to compensate for the higher rake and terrible VIP system compared to Stars. Furthermore, Stars software is way better and you can put in solid volume while on 888 you will struggle to do so.
