So true jimmiko, so better table selection is now crucial... from my point of view...

The problem is those pesky affiliate sites that claim that can help you win by giving you access to strategy articles, videos, forums and coaching... wait a minute... never mind.

Evolution of poker industry:

10 years ago - read some strategy articles and grind - profit!

3 years ago - become an affiliate and start a training site - profit!

3 years from now - start a training site that teaches people to become affiliates and start training sites - profit!

15 years from now - learn Chinese and get a job - profit!

Probably if US players can play again and poker gets regulated then I think pokers future is bright ,but if don't then...

Next year poker will boom.

I will always treat Poker as a very serious hobby. I still have ambitions to get a degree and find a job.

Follow Barry Greenstein's advice and the future of poker looks good. Treat poker as a job and you start to get worried.

My, or anybody's ambition doesn't affect poker's future at all. Poker is going the same direction, doesn't matter, how Greenstein looks at it, a job or a hobby. I understand you point, that you should treat poker as a hobby, so you can't be disappointed. But it won't change anything, only for you, that you can still choose your degree. But poker is not a good hobby for 3 hours a day, if it's future is dark:S

Teh fish may be getting better, but I'm not quaified to comment, although I suggest with work us 'regs' can easily keep ahead with the learning matterial available. I do think the fish are not as common though.

Basically, to paraphrase hasenbraten; 'The game may be tougher but it's easier to get good enough to stay ahead to.'

As for the game in general, I expect like many other sports and games, when one market starts to perform weakly, look for another one; India - China, Africa? Yes things need to change politically in a lot of places, but that's not saying it can't is it, as recent events show.

Just my opinion in a vacuum is all though.

getting tougher by the day but still beatable. a secondary income would be my suggestion. when you make the bucks invest in something...too many of my friends have made 100k plus and then have nothing to show for it.

This will not help anyone here. When Nevada opens up their intrastate poker are you going to move to Nevada just to play US players?

imo the most alarming thing about the future of online poker (or at least of texas holdem NL) are the bots.

Meh, not worried about bots. Sites like stars have solid enough security measures to prevent bot use, and smaller sites will realize that if their midstakes games become overrun with bots then they'll lose a large part of their customer base because people will stop playing there.

People are still winning lots of money playing poker. It may not be the same people that won before because people suck more than they think at adjusting to game climates. The bigger problem with making it a lifetime career is the retarded legislation in various countries, notably the US obv. Also, the burnout associated with it is a problem too - poker can be very mentally taxing.

My advice to anyone who wants to be a pro poker player - don't set it out as a career goal. Work to make it a nice side income, and if it gets to the point where you're making way more money to justify working a 9-5 job or whatever, then you can make that decision then.

I sad if all americans can play online poker again on all sites ,and it will probably hapen. Because they can't leave unregulated market that big wich is worth billions.

Of course, 2011 was a difficult year for poker - Black Friday cost a lot of players their bankrolls and even more people's trust in it.

But we can still see a super-strong interest in poker by watching our sign-up numbers or those of e.g. PartyPoker (who make their numbers public).

Winter season now will breathe back life into most poker rooms - traffic usually is 30% higher in the cold season when you compare it to the summer slump.

Of course poker is not getting easier, that's why poker players need to work on their game continuously. Our job is to provide you with the platform & tools to out-smart your competition!

About "the fish getting better" comments, I think I'm one of the fish and I always wonder what's it mean. IMO, online poker is one of the easiest competition I ever play and you say it's tough? I guess the problem is you are too lazy to improve your game! no offense.
