Depends what you want from martial arts?
Do you want to be an expert at an art? Or do you want to be able to defend yourself if your in danger? If I had my time back again and did not have to wade through all the bullshit talked in the world of martial arts, my choices would be easy ♦
Boxing or tai boxing
mixed with wrestling ie judo, sambo etc.
Or a decent mma club if you have one local to you.
Forget all the fancy stuff its rubbish and does not work.
if you want to be able to keep your self safe then you also need to learn about self protection too here is a link to geoff thompsons book this guy is 100percent genuine and knows the scorehttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-Alive-Self-Protection-Summersdale-Self-protection/dp/1840242795
My 2 cents....
I have trained/tried out alot of martial arts, including those mentioned above. From practical view, considering TT's needs, I would suggest Judo/Aikido, since real good Wing Tsun school is very hard to find, moves are really easy to copy, but real efficiency in moves is what matters, thats why there are alot of schools there.
But, if you get into a real fight, Judo isn't that practical, unless you are sure it will be 1v1, which it rarely is where I live, meaning, if you end up on the floor, you're history, so better to learn stand up fight and not take fights to the ground.
Also, TT, you might want to try karate, or kendo.
Thnx 4 all the infos guys!
Unfortunately, today is a very sad day. Phil Galfond left Bluefirepoker.
I can't imagine a world without Phil's NLHE and PLO vids ...

+1
Can somebody pls tell Tobias to do nothing else next days than trying to contact Phil and convince him to produce vids for PS
every martial artist knows that bas ruttens self defense programm is the only way to go
Phil wrote this on his twitter:
I'll have to find somewhere else to post my final 4 videos. I'm extremely embarrassed about all of this. I'm sorry guys.
Maybe PokerStrategy can convince him to post them on PokerStrategy. Then maybe he likes it here and makes more vids
And in English:
I have closely watched those youtube videos over and over again and can say that I have no problem defending myself anymore.

Well, now I can safely say that when faced with an angry looking dummy, or a punching bag, I will feel no fear.

If you want to learn deffending system, no way you can do it without 10+ years. It has to be absolutely natural movement for you. The only way is fast military/police training that teaches you to use weak spots of the attacker like eyes, throat, nerve endings. No way that any decent master will teach you that without mastering basic skills.
If your goal is mindset, almost any martial art will do. It is about your approach and goals, not about specific martial art. Also Tai Chi or Yoga are great for that.
If you like to get rid of anger in fast and effective way, get yourself a boxing bag. After 1min of good pounches, you will be too tired to be anxious ♦

BS! So what should I sign up for?
Can't rly say. Imo there is no comparable video producer out there and I have/had accounts on all sites.
Especially true for PLO. Wait some weeks till Phil joins PS ♠_cool:
€: I must say MagicNinja on DC and JensKyllonen on PS are also rly great PLO video producers imo. Unfortunately both didn't make any vid for months ...
