I have a question that popped up during the coaching last night. Sorry if something similar was asked already. You say that you grew your initial roll with SNG's and then transitioned to NL50, NL100 SH, right? So I was wondering what exactly made you confident that you have what it takes to skip the micros and beat the higher games right away and how long it took you to confirm to yourself you are wining player at CG.

Keep up the good work :)

correct. transitioned from the 50s and 100s SNGs and micro MTTs to cashgames. started NL50 but in fact NL100 was the first limit I rly grinded and developed my first skillz

obv as SNG player I was a cg fish. played around 100k hands break even i think. was just one month and i still made money with mtts so it wasnt a bad start. i think breaking even is good. i learned a lot obv during those first real cg hands.

what made me confident? what makes me confident that its worth investing time and money in business venture X?

first i objectively analyze the overall situation. then i subjectively, honestly and incredibly critically evaluate if i/my partners have the skill(s) do succeed.

when going into cashgames i had no doubt i would succeed. i just wasnt sure how hard it would be. but i was rdy to go the extra mile. so i did. never looking for any excuses. dont worry, i played more hands than most ppl here. i have seen it all. and yes i have run cold. but that doesnt matter. just continuously working on my game and eventually i started winning and increasing my skill.

and ofc, the more i won the more confident i got.
if i lost and continued losing i never lost confidence. i only worked more/harder.

I intend to study sleep and how to go with as little of it as possible after my exams are over, I really want to spend not more than what is needed sleeping, but I also want to not fry my brain in the process. :f_o:

BTW: Do you use caffeine (or other energy supercharging substances)? I'm a high user of this stimulater and I am thinking about giving it up in a month (since the withdraw symptoms will last for 2-3 weeks before my body will be back to normal "no caffeine in the blood" mode). My reason for this is that it conditiones me to work in peaks of high activity on when my blood caffeine is high enough, so do you use any? Or just plain "deep in your soul" motivation on your daily plate?

from what ive read sleep is very important. 7-8 hours a day is great.
i do know that my lack of sleeping enough at times is not particularly healthy. but i like my lifestyle so much, what can you do i wouldnt suggest to anybody to sleep that little at times i do or to have so many things going on simultaneously. fucks with our minds quite a bit but as said, for me personally i want to feel true sickness. makes me feel alive

i usually have one day a week where i have to re-charge my batteries and i sleep 8-10 hours. mostly i sleep 5-7 hours. below 5 hours for 3 days consecutive is rly rly tough

i drunk around 5 coffees a week and only energy drins when going out, not too much though. i dont use any kind of drugs to keep me awake or be more productive. i truly beliebe no substance can make me more productive than my attitude and motivation.

while i do go animal on me 90% of the time, i do sometimes take breaks. e.g. i dont continue playing if im rly tired or dont feel like it. doesnt happen often, but if it does, i never play not even with softest competition. thats one of my main rules. life is too short to do things you dont like too often. and i do not like to focus hardcore when my brain actually wants to sleep.

overall i think i did a pretty good job over the last years to train my brain. i am not particularly skilled in anything. also my iq is probably pretty standard, im not like tln. but i practice a lot and very hard. im tempted to say harder than anybody i know.
i also developed work ethics that alow me to get many things done. my time management is probably also pretty good. pareto efficiency ftw. i wont be top 1% in anything probably. but i can be top 5% in many areas. i try to combine those many top5% and in the end achieve ultimate pwnage

sry for drifting a way a bit. i think its all connected. i dont sleep few hours cuz i dont like sleeping. i do like it. but i like living so much and i have too many crazy ideas in my head so i need to have enough time during the day to pursue my dreams.
and at the same time i still love poker. i still play a lot and that also takes time ofc.

You seem so extremely busy and occupied with business, poker (and maybe some partying :f_p: ) that it doesn't really seem like you have time for a relationship at all.

Are you not afraid you're missing out on this due to your current lifestyle?

I didn't talk about it much, thats correct. I do think though I mentioned my view on it once or twice. Maybe before you registered with PS and maybe I never rly did ....

Short story: I had one serious relationship after a few not so serious ones. for 6 years (while I've been 18-24). It was great. Like the kind of relationship some might even never experience. Better than great. We were living together almost all the time. Everything was smooth and we were in the zone. She def had a big impact of me becoming one of the nice and good guys. Still it didn't work out. Part of the reason was def my attitude towards "wanting it all". PokerSoulreader, BusinessDomination, Education, Fun, Family, Kids ... I was constantly on fire and the more I got to know what is out there and what the world can offer, the more I wanted to experience it all. In most things I do, I overplay. So i probably scared her away in the end. I wasn only focusing on poker. or only on Uni. I just wanted it all. and by wanting it all I didnt realize I couldn't focus enough on her and make her happy enough. Ofc I wanted and I tried, but trying is not enough. I should have realised I can't do and have everything.

Moral of the story: I did learn a lot. Especally that even if you - above all - want to make a person happy and try to, it can still be not enough. Cuz trying doesnt mean you are a) rly doing enough and b) the other person experiences enough joy and happiness.
The break up was clearly the worst experience ever.
Even my family issues last year that most might view as even more cruel if they knew the details I dont consider as sad.

I could write books about it, and maybe one day after my poker and business career, I focus on writing a book about love :f_love:

What it means for me:
- I don't have any resposibility being in a relationship with a girl. I can do whatever I want. This can also be a good thing and some kind of freedom.
- I am in a spot where I personally think (ofc let's hope I'm wrong) I can't find anybody/any relationship better. I already played Nosebleeds, I've seen the best, experienced the best and also tried my best ... still it didn't work out ... Yes its not out of the question I might play those stakes again, but so far it doesnt look like it. Not many girls can qualify. And when I met sb special after we broke up, I never liked the idea of a new relationship. Im insta scared basically cuz I dont give anybody a chance
Maybe in a few years, who knows :P Im still young enough.

No need to force anything. Karma will be with me hopefully

For the records: I do think personal relationships and principles like loyalty and trustworthyness are key in life. You get what you give. The more you give (esp love) the more you get. Just because I only talk about making money all day (I mean we are still a poker forum ... its all about money ) doesn't mean I dont know that.

I've always been very proud of myself when taking the tough route but sticking to my principles (not cheating on my gf, not selling a friend, not scamming when given the opportunity). In the long run imo it pays off the do the right things.

So although I'm rly committed to succeed business wise, I won't make this my nr1 priority in life. A happy and fulfilled life overall is the goal and love is a key part of it.

- i have a few projects running atm. some are huge, others are smaller. there are action days ofc. all day full of meetings. badbeats throughout the day. just a hard working day overall. my partners go home, relax and sleep. i go home (like today) grind 3 hours, do coaching, prepare stuff for one of my other projects, and then get 4 hours of sleep and get up early next day for the next meeting with the guys from the day before who rested last 12 hours.

im not saying its necessary to sometimes go animal on yourself. and ppl who know me better know i can also relax if necessary and party it out like a monkey. but i like the action. i like the challenge. mostly i like it when i feel there are so many forces surrounding me that i can see how and where i improve.

this post made it so deep to me..i closed my eyes and adapted my life to your style of life and damn it looked good, not to say the feeling it gave(and it was just a imagination exercise)....wooohaaa think i'm going "crazy" to sir :f_biggrin:

Brilliant few posts, I really need to sort my sleeping out, I can easily manage on 3 hours sleep if I have to get up for work or uni or w/e, but as soon as i'm given the chance to have a lie in, I snap-call it . Like today, last night I went to sleep at 2am cos I was super tired from only having 3 hours sleep the night before and working either physically or mentally all day. I woke up at 10am, solid right? 8 hours sleep is perfect, then I ldo rolled over and lay in my warm comfy bed and drifted back to sleep for another 2 hours

:diamond: vbet thinly T and R

:diamond: focus whlile playing and try to identify spots where you can pick up pots uncontested

:diamond: play positional aware (preferably with a solid semi-tight range). this will allow you to vbet correcty, bluff regularly, extract max value from your monsters and lose the minimum when you are behind.

He makes it sound so much harder than it actually is.

:diamond: Never fold anything, ever.

I would start an AMA: jbpatzer thread, but I'm worried by the fact that I have no idea what AMA stands for.

how quickly do you think it would take a very good NLH player who is used to HU and 6max to get to 400PLO if they started at PLO50 playing around 50k hands per month?

25k hands when running hottttt :f_biggrin:

hard to say. make sure you dont play plo like nlhe and e.g. start checking back many turns for sd value etc. plo is a different game, it cannot be compared to nlhe. so it doesnt necessarily mean being good in nlhe also helps in becoming very strong in plo.

however, with exceptional learning skills it can def be done in a few months!

one thing to add: variance in plo can be a different beast at times. i think before you start out plo seriously, you rly rly need to have developed a very professional mindset. dont expect too much, just work on your game regularly and dont let the good or bad results affect your game. (very hot runs can also be very bad for your game and longterm wr, dont underestimate that)

like nl fr or bumhunting nl hu is a totally different story than grinding the ultimate swoooong game plo sh

I have a question about table selection in HU cash.
When are you looking for a table in HU cash do you always just open a new table and wait for a fish to join? It seems to me you cant ever get two players to join your table when there is above 50 tables running with 1 player. Do you play the "regulars" the players who already opened a table?

You wrote in an older post that at micros a very aggressive BR is recommended? How aggressive? For example when you go from nl5-nl10 nl10-nl25 (i`m talking about sh)... you should give shoots at the same amount of your BR?... I was thinking about giving a 5BI shoot and if i fail rebuild and give a 10BI shoot and so on... do you think this could be pointless and less productive?

I guess at these limits 25BI`s should be more than enough, right?
