Whatever happens, don't lose your cool over a piece of software - just send a bug report and re-boot it which I'm sure the guys at HEM2 will heavily appreciate, all new software crashes, truth is poker players deal with it worse because we are used to more intense emotional swings

Not really worth tilting over imo, just go back to HEM1, file a bug report and check back later... :f_confused: - Save your energy for when you get a bad beat, you'll need as much of it as you can get.

I think the people coding the software are not very competent TBH. I haven't used HEM 2 though I will be upgrading because my credit expires this month, but I don't see any reason that the software should be running slower than HEM 1. If anything it should be faster IMO.

From what I understand there isn't that much of an improvement in the HUD/Importing side of things (in terms of features), so I don't understand why it takes so much longer.

They have some cool ideas, I like the sync v multi computers, but no one can say enough good stuff about it.

I still prefer 1, I've got keys for both so hopefully will be better.

When sngwiz2 comes out I guess I'll use 2 more :P

You are partially right. It should be as fast or faster if it does the same. My rough guess is that the visuals are eating up resources. Can't see any feature that would do that and is not also present in HEM.

adamall,

It's weird you said the HEM2 developers are not competent, seeing as it's probably the same guys that coded HEM1. :f_confused:

It makes most sense to increasingly make your software more resource intensive as that is the way technology is going, don't you think?

I remember when video games used to be about 700 Mb on average, now it's 10 - 15 Gb, it's all going in the same direction - I don't know the viability but I'm pretty sure it's tough to code software that does more in less resources unless the first version wasn't optimized for example.

It's because HEM1 was so good that you are disappointed with HEM2, personally I like what the developers have done for the Poker community by providing fantastic software. There is no question of competence here, as far as the HEM developers go, in my opinion.

I would agree that the visuals cost a lot more resources.

New games/applications shouldnt have that bigger demands on resources, believe me... not EVERY single person is buying the best hi-tech computer every single year.

I am personally very disappointed at that slow software, as I expected my quad-core processor with dual graphic card and 4GB RAM Notebook to, you know, at least not lag horribly. (And by the way, thank you Windows 7 for eating 2GB of my RAM, I hope you have REALLY good reasons for it.)

I posted many crashlogs and some forum topic too, so I hope they will improve their software somehow and wont just hope that "we will upgrade to 10x better computers". I also dont like how Graphs look like in HM2, in my opinion they should give us more variants of graphs to choose from, including that one from HM1; but if possible, I want to be able to refresh my 600k hand database without having to wait 30 seconds every time I just open "page" with graph (of course, going to other tab and back means loading it again).

Last thing, I dont like that they are saying things like "you must exclude this and this file from your firewall and antivirus" - it should be handled to not make conflicts -> okay, if thats not possible, then it should do as much as possible automatically -> problem with that too? okay, then they should at least INFORM us about need to do that in HM2, not just on "some forum page" etc.

Theres lots to say. Both programs have some serious short comings but if the program was made perfectly then chances are it would mean too many people were using it.

I did get used to HM1, and it seems to run a lot smoother. HM2 seems to have loads of bugs, so many in fact that I've been worried that the company has managed to bury itself in problems - fair chance I'm wrong here.

Specifics: I dont like the new session tab in HM2. Its basically useless. Why do I care what my shortest term results look like? The tab lists hands, sensible enough... but this is pretty useless when it loads so slowly. At games speed this is completely non-functional. It just seems like they've built the session tab so you can follow that during your session... but they managed to get this tab all wrong.

ahh this is a useless rant...

edit: like others HM2 seems promising and I'm still holding out a lot of hope that it'll improve gradually over the next while.

It's great to hear your thoughts guys thanks for pitching in!

I find it totally usable but I never had the opportunity to get used to the slickness of HEM1 so difficult to compare, HEM2 works for me so far.

Also they do release frequent bug-fixes and updates so it's expected to improve over time! :f_grin:

yes, they have an auto update on startup thats included with the software...

but it crashes HM2 whenever it tries to run...

and i'm forced to update manually after the autoupdate crashes the program.

makes me want to eat live kittens tbh

I enjoy some of the new stats which seem quite useful where you have a more significant sample size with some players. I love the vsHero stats in particular.

I probably worded my sentence incorrectly. I haven't actually used the program so I'm not saying they are icompitent it just seems that way.

There would be a team coding this program you would imagine.

My only gripe is iv read people stating that a core i7 with 8gb ram and ssd, had problems running this Program smoothly. That's about as fast as it gets for a common computer, so while it should use more resources, a computer like this should be able to destroy this program. They use core i7's as a budget server processor so there is more than enough number crunchi there.

Also while bugs are annoying they I'm fine with them as long as its being lathed quickly

I think they've misjudged the market.

Traditionally most software has developed within the industry based on feedback from the consumers over time. This is how HM1 became what it is. This is necessary, to a degree, because of the complexities of working on many sites.

With HM1 being such a classic product the consumer market expected HM2 to be much further evolved than it was on release. I think the HM guys expected the consumers to be okay with tons of minor issues that they would respond to over time, as has always been the model for poker software development.

There is now a much higher expectation from the consumer to have a near perfect product from the point of purchase and not be part of it's development and evolution.

As far as I can see most of the changes are cosmetic. It is improved, but it isn't exactly what I would call intuitive to use. It's difficult for me to judge its performance because I got a much improved computer at the same time i got HM2.

The big issue for me was the non inclusion of Table Scanner until a couple of weeks ago.

I was using it from the release day, never really experienced the crashes that has happened to others, but it was slow at times. Got the PT4 beta, haven't opened HEM2 since.

Disconnect your internet and start the program, the connect the internet again. Once worked for me at HM1

I shall use HEM1 untill they decide to stop updating it and to give use tech support. I see no reason to pay more to switch to HEM2. The original version is as good as any other for 99% players.

heh, no i just have to stop trying to use their auto update... You can skip it & grab the file manually and it doesnt crash.

edit: one of the things that kills me is that we we've basically been duped into beta testing a new product. I thought I was buying HM2 not HM2 beta.

I don't mind paying for software like this. From a purely practical stand point HM1 was great, but I like messing with the program. Its not that different from buying a video game.

Its OK imo. I am using it.

Yes very resource intesive, don't notice much as I am on a new lappy 8G Ram etc....

Its is pretty fugly - but the HUD updates fine for me & works multi-tabling zoom (I was 2 tabling).

I have imported the original HUD pop-up from HEM 1 - and it seems OK.

HEM 1 is very very good though...... its just that it was missing all my 60bb+ pots from 888 poker...they all showed up in HEM 2.

Also I got it through the 'get it free' thing on the HEM site, although my reg code doesn't seem to work ..... I'm sure it can be sorted out..haha.

There are regular updates - so I can only assume the devs are ironing out all the problems as well as including some feature requests.
