I played this really badly on reflection, will try to explain my thought processes as we go, any feedback / criticism appreciated. With my reads I think fold or 4 bet was the right play but as I often do, I called to assess flop, doh!

I dont use HEM whilst playing, only to review hands but my read on villain was that he was pretty tight, I had been at same table with him for some time and had not seen him showdown a hand, mostly getting folds to his open raise, or 3 bet.

After checking HEM villain stats were:

HANDS 379 VPIP13% PFR 11% 3BET 7% FOLD TO 4BET 100% (1)

No Limit Holdem Tournament
PartyPoker
7 Players
Hand Conversion Powered by weaktight.com

Stacks:
only1rhino (UTG) (61k)
UTG+1 (49k)
MP (91k)
CO (51k)
BTN (98k)
SB (336k)
BB (34k)

Blinds: 1k/2k Ante 200

Pre-Flop: (4.4k, 7 players) only1rhino is UTG Q♥ A♣
only1rhino raises to 4k, 1 fold, MP raises to 9.1k, 4 folds, only1rhino calls 5.1k

OK I know calling is crap but figured this guy as tight and kinda hoping to outplay him post flop.

Flop: K♠ 5♠ 10:club: (23k, 2 players)
only1rhino checks, MP bets 7.0k, only1rhino calls 7.0k

I float this, not really for the gutshot but with the idea of taking it off him on the river if he checks back on the turn

Turn: 10:diamond: (37k, 2 players)
only1rhino checks, MP checks

With the paired board I was thinking of check raising this but he checked behind so back to previous plan of trying to take it on river

River: 2♥ (37k, 2 players)
only1rhino bets 18k, MP calls 18k

Think my river bet is probably too small but I think this guy read me like a book and is calling even pot size bet here

Final Pot: 73k
only1rhino shows
Q♥ A♣
MP shows
8♥ 5♦

MP wins 73k (net +39k)

only1rhino lost 35k

I was really shocked by his holding here, not at all shocked by the call, he obviously had me pegged, but how often is villain 3 betting me from MP with them kind of stats.

Any thoughts on better way to play this - obviously any way other than this is better lol

dont post results kills discussion

USE HUD WHILE PLAYING

imo with those stats villain might just misclick pre

imo u butchered this hand every street

as played i dont like your play and reasoning

pre=> if i knew his stats i would just fold pre depending of table dinamic, if u were agro loose i would just 4bet to like 22k and fold to shove( that play is base on his stats, but cos u didnt knew his stats while u were playing imo u should shove or fold there) there is no room to out play him post oop with your reads and those stack sizes

flop => i like c/r vs his smalish bet or folding, he is ether weak block beting/giving up or inducing so c/r to 20k and giving up is fine for me (if we had A :spade: i might c/rAI), imo calling is bad except if u call for odds with intention to give up later at any other bet (cos if he is inducing with hands like KKK/AA/TTT or block betting with hands like JJ/QQ/99/88/AQ/AJ u r getting ok odds to call flop + implied)
also cool line here is to lead into him like 14k and fold if he shove

turn => if u call flop with plan to donk on every turn like 40% pot size bet then calling flop is ok BUT with your stack size u cant do that cos u r crippling your self and cheaper variant is to just c/r his flop bet

river => as played i would just check give up, over bet/shove ( to take him out of his PP/AQ) u have like 43k and pot is 37k

so ... imo 4bet pre or fold, all other lines r spewing post flop with your stack vs tight player

lead or c/r that flop bet, or call as i said for odds and to see what happens, with intention to give up later at any other bet

Thanks mate, yeah I agree pretty much butchered the hand!
I find it really difficult to play with HUD, especially multi-tabling, probably need to configure it better i guess.
Tried to set so can only see stats when i click on but keeps reverting back to show basic stats always and then i cant see whats going on.

yeah lets re do all of that...

Pre is fine against most, without reads you should call pre here, if you 4bet you should definitely be looking to 4bet/call.

Flop is always a check/call, nice hand well played. You have the best hand very often, and if not you have a gutshot.

Turn standard.

River is a very bad bet. If he has a pair he's never folding after pot controlling, and you have the nut no pair. So the best line is just to check and evaluate. You can check/raise because you rep AT pretty well and he can never have Tx or a strong king after checking back the turn but this is very high variance. I feel a lot of the time the river will just go check/check and you will win the pot.

Fold pre - your reads on villian are 'pretty tight' - this is not enough imo to play the hand post - you get yourself in a bunch of sucky spots like this and I am near certain that in a party poker tournament there are a huge bunch of soft, low variance spots to gain chips. You are just getting yourself into guessing games imo.

Lead flop sucks, is much better to check/call (I guess tho even this kind of sucks vs a good player cos when we flat is a super super easy double barrel spot for villian they can even do it with like no eq imo and is +ev for them but w/e random villian is not gnna be that good.

Personally I think ch/shove is by far the superior option, and esp if we had As

Imo the only hands he can bet/call are {AA,KK,AK and his random flushdraws) and we prevent him from double barreling, and is generally imo a much better line than also to let him pot control and hero us on the river. If he just shutdown on turn then I'm all for just ch/call but I think given we can't assume this I much prefer to ch/shove.

As played once you ch/call though I think you should always ch/f riv else ch/shove flop is far better for reasons I already said.

But all in all, I am folding - let him 'run you over' - you can find much softer spots without entering these preflop reg guessing game wars.

Edit : I just saw actually that he has actually fold to 4b once before, if this was like a few levels before I am a lot more tempted to 4b esp if it wasn't vs you (which I guess is not because you didn't mention it) and so long as it wasn't so not so long ago that he won't want to 3b/f again :f_biggrin:

Is close between 4b shove or 4b/f with the f24b stat I quite like to raise to 20,1k/fold - chenny dnno why you are wanting to 4b/call, we certainly don't need to balance.

I'd just fold pre with this stack size in these positions vs a tight guy.

correct, it's a huge leak. you're pricing yourself in to calling vs their range and then folding = fundamental poker 101 mistake.

relooking at stats I'm +1 for fold pre

so in other words u r saying that when we have(at best imo) break even call vs some1 range we got to call for odds, no mater the fact that if we fold we have still +/- playable stack :f_confused:

finally we are all of the opinion to fold pre - took some doing lol

Oh and @chenny is so retarded to bluff and then go 'oh i get odds, i guess i'll call now' But it is kinda true and it just makes the option of ever 4b/folding (esp in this spot) a really sucky one.

Such a clear fold pre though - and i think we are all that opinion now so /thread.

lol, these stats fold pre, vs looser more aggro just 4b/call.

dont see the point in playing post like this i mean what are you expecting to fold out? what do you expect to float against that isn't going to barrel, i just dont really get any reasoning for the whole hand.

i kinda get Rebuz idea for ch/rai flop but whats the point in putting yourself in this spot, you still don't fold out a tonne vs this type of guy.

I don't get chennys idea for ch/calling what are you trying to do? you just get owned hard when they play perfect against you and you're left in a guessing game.

Riv I like what amp said, betting makes no sense, also you thought you should bet bigger, I think thats just a bigger mistake, if u had Kx I get betting bigger coz u help yourself to get a light call.

Overall just fix your preflop play. I don't think you should get into arguments over whether it's a 4b/call or a shove blabla, it's all opp dependant, table dependant. But vs this guy just fold until you have a reason to do otherwise.

@fusionpk, OK lets say our opponent has some slightly higher percentage for 3betting us, and we're considering either shoving (which is never getting called by worse), 4bet/calling (looks stronger than shoving, still never getting it in vs worse) or calling (keeps in some dominated hands). He doesn't know we have AQ so how does he play perfectly against us? We're kind of overrepping our hand in fact if we check/call this flop, he has to be afraid we have QQ, JJ (btw these hands are never folding on KTx), as well as some KK combinations, AA combinations, AT combinations (which isn't actually in my range), generally stuff that isn't folding later streets. So when you say he plays perfectly against us, do you actually mean to say he plays really badly against us? ie when we make our hand, lets say turn is a Q maybe he thinsk that's a scarecard against JJ, maybe he shoves J thinking that's a scarecard for QQ, maybe he shoves an ace thinking it's a scarecard against both.
