How this thread came about
Since I still had $50 lying around and Pokerstrategy was running the Free Bankroll Challenge, I checked out BetOnline via Pokerstrategy.com. Two problems arose in the process:
1. I didn't know that it only starts at NL10 (5 stacks is not bankroll management!).
2. although I deposited the $50 (on 23.01.2023), I could not use it when playing poker.
Since I then fell out due to illness, nothing happened for the time being.
On 13 February, I was kindly contacted by the support team and told that I was taking part in the challenge but had not yet earned any strategy points. After I described my problem from point 2, this was solved and I could start on 15.02.2023. I did so.
And that's what I did.
My poker backround
I've been here since July 2006 and like almost everyone back then I started with Fixed Limit and played this successfully up to FL $0.50/$1. But always only as a hobby. Later on I also played NL-SSS up to NL100. From 2007 I was PS.de coach for FL and NL SSS beginners. From June 2008 I was then permanently employed as Head of Coaching at Pokerstrategy.com, which SvenBe then took over from me at some point (2010 or 2011 I think). I am therefore responsible for Paxis being a coach. ![]()
I never played NL BSS, so I still see myself as a beginner. Simply because I assume that the game has become much more demanding over the years.
However, I hope that with diligence and a little commitment I can still be a winning player on at least NL25, ideally higher in the long run.
What happened so far
So off I went with $50 = 5 stacks on 15.02.2023 at the Boost Tables on BetOnline. How many hands I played I can't say. Since I sometimes played 3 tables at the same time (really only ABC poker according to the old knowledge), I'm sure I've played 20,000 hands (possibly even 30,000). How do I arrive at that? In the first 3 days I earned almost $100 rake for PS and I mean that on day 4 and 5 I played for 6 hours at a time (which is easily 6,000 hands a day with the fast tables).
Bankroll-wise I was even up to $190, but it also went down again to $62 (= +/+ $0 because I had already earned a $15 bonus). In the meantime I watched the first 8 podcast coaching recordings of Paxis on NL10, so I didn't do any more 3-tabling, but also watched the regulation tables, which I use from time to time.
Other than that I have a maximum of 2 tables on, with usually only one as the time is very short.
Since then I have played about 5,000 hands and my bankroll has increased again:
Current bankroll: $93 *without bonuses
Goals
1st goal: Bankroll of $500 to be able to play NL10 safely
2nd target: bankroll of $1000 to be able to play NL25
3rd goal: regularly post hands for discussion with my thoughts (the most interesting ones every now and then here in the blog) to expand my poker knowledge and to learn.
Since I prefer a conservative BRM, I feel most comfortable with 50 stacks myself. However, I would probably try NL25 from $425 with 1 stack, as I need at least 40 stacks for NL10.
Where I still need help
If anyone knows how I can get copied out of the BetOnline hand history from the Fast tables ( or get them from the Data Base file from the Bet-Online History folder), please let me know. Otherwise I can only post interesting hands from the normal tables.
