December Wrapup First of all, since I won't be around much until january, Happy New Year everyone!!!

Gonna wrap up December a bit early aswell. Something tells me since TwiceT the machine will be around, I'll still get to play some more poker before the month ends tho

Hmm. Rantmode now. So as I was searching around for an open spot in a pokerhouse last couple of weeks, I got rejected from one for being a "chick". At the same time, I had another person tell me it might not be such a good place for me to be anyway, since it could get quite wild at times etc. Wtf? 
Had a couple of discussions about "male-oriented" both Thailand (where I got rejected) and poker in general is.
Maybe to some people I have more to prove. Maybe I don't. Regardless, I've decided that 2012 is the year to prove what I'm made of. There is no doubt in my mind 2012 will be an important year to me. Exactly what I'll achieve I don't know yet. Don't even know exactly what my goals are. One thing that feels important to me is to earn equal to or more than the males in my peer group. Given that poker is taxfree for me at this point, I will compare my winnings to their net salarys. Should range between $25k-$35k. Jikes, monetary goals eh? I feel like I can handle that, besides, its a long term goal and it will only affect me positively since it's an important milestone to me. Realisticly, it shouldn't be that hard to reach either. Will even aim to reach higher than that (by increasing volume, moving up in stakes etc), would have aimed for it regardless of this goal.

I'm thinking that the "balla" pokerhouse lifestyle in places like Thailand and Philippines, where young Euro guys with what looks to poorer locals to be buckets of money can behave according to the extremes of their fantasies isn't necessarily the place for a Euro woman.
You are young and independent, proving very successful at what you've chosen to attempt, with the likelihood in the near future that you will exceed the skillsets of a large percentage of those who you could currently call peers.
As a "chick", you would prove too much of a challenge to the existing mindset. Bluntly put, Asia is about sex tourism. For these tourists, the female population are a source of service. Cooking and cleaning are two of the services, indulging the whims of entitlement the rest. They need never be regarded as people, with dreams and desires of their own. Respect is not even a consideration. It's about disposability, and the party that never ends.
Having you around, with the requirement to treat you differently, ie, with respect and consideration, as though you were a real person who actually mattered, would be more than the fantasy can bear. They are not there for self examination, or to question the ethics of behaviour. You would not be thanked for putting them in a position where they are faced with exactly that.
I believe you already stand much higher than this, and aim further. In choosing your next engagement, interview extensively and rigorously, and be certain that those with whom you take the next steps share at least your immediate goals. You have the power.

To them in poker house w/ the attitude that aciddrop described: GL finding any sort of meaningful relationship with that kind of attitude. Just because the general tourist aspect is that of money, sex and overall disrespect to the women in the community, it doesn't mean that people in a poker house have to be like that? It doesn't mean that the locals have to/will be like that.
I think it's absolutely disgusting that you believe you would have to change your attitude if a 'euro girl' (don't get me started on this completely ridiculous stereotype) came to stay. I mean what the fuck, were you never brought up to respect women? To respect your friends? To respect relationships and friendships? I personally don't see how a euro girl joining would be any different to a euro guy, you're all there to grind, have fun and enjoy life.
I think your attitude sucks and you shouldn't treat anyone with level of disrespect portrayed in acids post. Just because alot of tourists treat typical asian women like dirt, it doesn't mean you should continue with the stereotype. Grow up and learn to live in the real world.

Yes, it is something of a stereotype, but they exist for the reason that people satisfy the criteria. I posted mostly in response to Vonkis rejection from one house on the basis that she is a "chick". That is a very poor reason, and of itself seems enough to confirm that the house in question very likely has a poor attitude toward the female gender, and much of human relationship as well.
In relation to this, I just wanted to affirm that Vonki indeed has nothing to prove, and shouldn't feel either obliged to try, which would be bad, or feel humiliated and diminished by the rejection, which would be worse.
Glad to see some strong responses in support.

regarding what acciddrop said, that attitude is certainly pervasive among many tourists in Asia, especially the older men with some money. They come and they buy up a few girlfriends for the duration of their trip. These girlfriends are also usually very happy with the arrangement and they try to do their best to hopefully land a visa to a foreign country. I think this culture is especially rampant in the more touristed countries like Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia/Philippines/Bali in Indonesia.
With that said, there are still many genuine tourists who come to visit for non sex reasons.

Hey vonki, came here to wish you a nice new year and read the discussion going on latelty, if you dont mind i would like to add some lines.
First at all, congrats for the developement what you reached lately, enough dollar to squeeze in some nice new dresses again
Second, i think you should not think too much about this male/female thingy. It is really not important i think, noone will be a better player or a better person just because of sex. I was surrounded in my whole life basilly with guys, never really had girfriends, in the high school i was the only girl in the class. I learned by the years, there are two approach how one can see these things: the feminim, and the princess. The feminim fights, cuz she thinks she has to prove she worth more than guys. And the pricess screws the guys around her fingers and let them be her slaves. I like that you have some ideas about goals for the next year, maybe the motivation with shoving for guys you are better is not the best. For me this only worked out in my life, if i wanted to impres some certain person, but its really freaking hard to impress a bunch of guys. (Hugh Hefnner found the way tho) But, you have to know of course, you should maybe just consider if this will give you enough drive. Other thing, i also belive for a girl, its okay to live together with 1-2 guy, but not more, cuz they are kinda depressing on the longrun to share a life with (no offense guys, but we all know why ♦ )
And than, oh, i was so sad when i read you made up your mind and you would rather go now to Thailand. I insta told to Ash i think this may would not fit you so much. As some others already wrote it here, woman are a dfferent category there, than man. And its pretty dangerous to walk around there for a girl, for sure its different than walking on the streets of Sweden. I think if somewhere, than in Asia women really dont get any respect. And than its not so easy to come home from there in case you need it. Thats true that its cheaper and warmer the the most of Europe. The culture is also very different, there are things which are maybe wierd for europians at first, takes time to get used. Are you sure you would get used to it easily, get yourself comfortable there quick whitout interrupting the time you spent on playing? Would you find there (girl)friends to share some girlye things, and so on? Sure you dont want to come to Vienna?
One of the best poker sceene is going on here with live games to nosebleed, lot of good faces, stories, and with a lot of people who you already know. If your only problem that you dont want to live alone i still think you can find a solution, we can talk about it...

I just want to jump on the bandwagon and assure you that you have nothing to prove to others and shouldn't try to...
You have to prove that you can do the things you want to yourself only...if random opinions matter than you are doing something wrong.
Rejection always feels bad, but think about what THEY are missing...and you prolly wouldn't want to live w a bunch of ppl who constantly joke about sending you to the kitchen to make them a sandwich

Manciika: Well, I do still want to come to Vienna ofc, but I decided firstly, I want to go someplace warm. Someplace more exciting for a few months. I see the points of NOT going there, but I really don't feel like I should have to NOT do something I want because of how other people may or may not treat me. Once you demand respect, people are more likely to give it to you aswell.
I already found a crew anyway sorta. Some guys from the Swedish community, who went already for 3 months just before xmas and just came back. So I think I should be fine.
As for Tallin... wow. Well estonian people surely live up to the expactations that Maurek gave us ♦ They're all really friendly, happy, outgoing... and drink alot! The day that we came here, Mareks friends came around to party at the house. We had alot of fun, and drank alot, and went to bed at I think... 4-6 AM most of us. Except for Wriggers who fell asleep in the shower just before 4 am (sadly, with clothes on and no water running ♦).
The next day, some of them come around again to celebrate NYE. Whilst our crew has barely even woken up, all feel and look like zombies, their crew is like... they'd never partied the day before. Constantly trying to pour alcohol down our throaths ♦ Eventually we all felt better tho and had a really awesome night
Tomorrow is our last day here (actually only have more like half a day tomorrow) and me and TT are going to record the last parts for Pink Performance. (oh and weee! TT had a surprise for me, one of those pink pokerstars hoodies!! ♦ ) We have something a bit special in mind for the last parts, but hehe... feeling a bit nervous actually ♦
