Is it possible to train your sleep:day ratio? It feels like I'm even tired after 8hours of sleep but I wish I only need like 6h lol ♦

Ok, so I forgot to mention this part, I updated the post.
@ Farmarchist : I think it is possible but only if accompanied by good nutrition as well. The key is to keep experimenting with yourself and find a sweet spot where you will wake up during REM sleep - that's what happens in those times when you wake up feeling ready to go.
Read your updated post, that'll be why I can't do it at the weekends then ♦
As soon as I don't need to be up for work the next day i'll stay up until 3-4am grinding and then sleep in ♦
Hey guys,
Today will be my first post on nutrition. There will be more in the future ♦. The format will be that of giving quick tips. Also feel free to post here any questions you have and I will try to answer them or look them up since I'm interested in the subject.
The aim is to make better and healthier decisions that will postively affect both our health and energy level through out the day
1. Double your energy level instantly
Cut out of your diet anything that contains sugar - I mean anything. For all of you that like me have a sweet tooth I know this sounds like me telling a smoker to not smoke, but... the fact is there is a snowball effect here. Eating sugar containing food makes you crave for some other sugar containing food 1-2h after you eat them.
Only way of doing this is to clean up all your house and all your hidden places out of your sweeties and go clean right up front. You'll be amazed that your sweet hunger disappears quite quickly and does not come back. This is going to be more effective if we combine it with other healthy choices like stop eating cereals and choosing good sweeteners.
The best indulgence you can use for those times that you get that sweet tooth once in a while is black chocolate 85%, the more the better. The cacao butter is quite healthy actually and since the sugar content is going to be quite low it will somewhat satiating.
2. Choose good sweeteners
Studies have shown that artificial sweeteners commercially used in past and present have negative effects on your health long term and while they in themselves contain a neglectable caloric value, they will increase your drive for sweets (to witch you will succumb at some point)
Good choices of which I know are:
-Stevia extract - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia . It looks to be the best choice atm since it is a plant based extract with negligible caloric value without proven secondary effects.
It is commercially available in liquid form which looks very convenient to me

3. ALWAYS take your meals with you
If you are staying out of the house more than 4-5h each day and don't have a place where you can healthy (and those are very rare and expensive) you should ALWAYS take in home made meals with you.
I personally use nuts a lot. I buy them in large quantities and make a mix of all of them and then put them in 50g bags and store them in the fridge. Easy to take with you, satiating and healthy.
You can also take protein shakes with you if you need more protein in your diet.
Fruits are also a good portable choice but they are best served as a separate meal or with a whey protein shake because otherwise they can cause gases or some digestive ailments (they digest fairly rapidly compared to other kinds of food)
These are the fast practical solutions. You can always though buy some nice casseroles and take cooked meals with you if you will have a place to eat them.
Sandwiches are not a good choice since they are usually made with bread. I recently saw something very interesting, making sandwiches in leaves:

An idea worth experimenting with if you are a sandwich addict ♦.
4. Eat fish as often as possible
There are many advantages to eating fish and all the studies done on fish eating populations indicated better performance in lots of diseases, cardiovascular ones in special.
For those of you that are afraid of the mercury levels, the fact is that the larger they fish they higher the pollutes content will be in his meat. This is why I recommend this fish as best choices since they have v low mercury levels and high Omega 3 content.
-mackerel
-herring
-sardines
-anchovy
Always look for fish that originates from Ocean fishing, avoid fish raised in farms because it's nutritional qualities will be modified to the worst.
5. Healthy supplement of the day - Omega 3
Though the supplement industry is one big bloated mambo jambo there a few ones that are actually quite beneficial to the human body.
One of those are the Omega 3 supplements. Our body evolved and thrived on a 1:1 ratio of Omega 3:Omega 6. These are essential fats (our bodies can't produce them).
Our modern diet if cereals and oils has more like a 1:20 ratio and since our bodies are basically the same as 100k years ago it makes sense that everything gets messed up now.
As a general rule, if you are not getting at least 2 servings of the fish I enumerated above go out and buy an Omega 3 supplement for you heart's sake. 1g/day should be good.
PS:
I'd like to know if you guys find these posts useful.
Also I am always capable of changing my point of view if good counter arguments are brought up so feel free to contradict me if you see something wrong in my statements (but with some solid proof
).
Our modern diet made up of cereals and oils is more like 20:
Keep posting! I'm sure everyone finds your posts useful!
I studied nutrition and dietetics as part of my degree so find this stuff really interesting.
A point worth mentioning regarding fish is that frying can damage the Omega fats so it should be avoided. Also for people that can't stand the taste of fish (myself included) other good sources of omega's are: Flaxseeds, Walnuts, tofu and to a certain extent olive oil, kidney & soya beans.
Flaxseeds are excellent imo. Cheap, easy to have (just sprinkle on breakfast/salads) and packed with antioxidants.
This should be replaced to the learning to win forum imo. Learn how to win in real life ♠_thumbsup:
Hey, thanks a lot for the suport guys.
@holmeboy - you are absolutely right about the Omega fats.
@Riverdiver - it's just a small thing for now, but thanks ♦
Keep tuned guys, I'll be posting better stuff soon about nutrition, I am myself learning this subject during this period. Revised my method of writing after some feedback (negative one but highly appreciated) in order to post more valuable material.

funny you should post this, i recently gave up all sugars and bread, and bought some omega 3! I'm also wanting to go on a cleanse but i still live with my parents and my mom would be werided out by me doing somthing like this more then likely.
@DecMate - all the medical research I've been going through kept coming back with one conclusion - cleansing has no real benefits and it can be right damn dangerous if not conducted properly.
Really glad you made that decision, be sure you make other choices to make it sustainable in the long term (I'll try to help with that a little in here ♦)
@ bjela - Thanks, will do sir ♦ !
Hey all, let's make you updated with some of the things I've been doing during past 2 weeks.
Eliminate coffee, switch to tea
I've been drinking coffee for some years now, and after 2 not so successful tries at stopping my consumption it I decided to do it the right way this time. So I eliminated all the coffee I had in my house and decided that I was not going to buy anymore. As Tony Robbins says " if it doesn't get in my shopping bag it doesn't get in my belly" (or something like that).
Next I read about different kinds of teas and how to prepare them. After that I bought 2 bags of tea, this is one of them:

I am enjoying 1-2 cups/day with a little stevia sweetener. I like them a lot which means --> problem solved
Preparing nuts
I learned that nuts have anti enzymes (which will interfere with digestion) and that you can inactivate them by sprouting, a easy thing to do.
Quick guide
It helped me
Healthy cooking
I bought a steamer and will son buy a slow cooker machine. I want to cook healthy and avoid 99%+ unhealthy methods of cooking ( anything that implies burning the food or usage of very high temperatures)
The steamer already proved himself useful - I cooked frozen vegetables with chicken breast a few times - it was pretty good, especially if you have a good sauce besides.
So next:

Also I got a few recipes for making some healthy shakes for use when a meal is not visible in the near future. I will make them pretty soon after I get back from holidays.
Poker wise I've been working hard. I increased my volume a lot, today I had my first 3.5k hands day on regular tables and it will deff happen more often in the future. I have to put another 4-5k tomorrow in anyways ♦
I will also get involved with a MLM project starting January 2013. I believe it is a good opportunity to possible develop a source of income but especially to develop my network.
I have few other projects running which are also going well so I am leaving 2012 with a much better life than the one I had 1 year ago and for this I'm very happy and grateful.
Expect more posts in the future ♦!
Yo people, merry Christmas to you all.

Hi man, first of all you have a great blog! I'm wondering - why did you choose to stop drinking coffee?
Slowcookers are the nuts. Use mine pretty much every day!
You can pick them up dirt cheap too, think mine cost ~£10 in tesco.

hey,
There are many reasons why one should quit drinking coffee, here is a elaborate post on the matter http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/quit-coffee_b_1598108.html.
For me personally coffee drinking interfered with my sleeping pattern, I don't like the rush it gives because it eventually runs out and you feel like crap (not that much different from eating candy) and it was an addiction anyways - I don't want many of those in my life.
I can tell you that it is better now, my aim is to get to constantly high energy levels not to live within energy cycles, up after drinking coffee, down after few hours.
@holmeboy, wanted to put a bigish command on amazon yesterday but at the checkout they said that they don't want to ship my kindle :(, did not decide yet what to do, but slow cooker was included there.
@SherlockHolmes2ez Thanks ♦
