Im back :f_biggrin:

Can't believe it has been 3 months, but after a brilliant 6 weeks backpacking in SE asia, i'm ready to begin my "game of life" haha.

Few aspects to my game of life;

:diamond: To complete P90x
:diamond: Get a job
:diamond: Rebuild a poker bankroll
:diamond: Be an efficient manager of my own life :)

A bit of detail to those points;

:diamond: While I was away realised how unfit i'd got with not playing football and going to the gym, so with cancelling my gym membership before I went away decided id try working out at home. I paid for and legally downloaded p90x obv
:diamond: This is the lol part, gotta get a job but I have no idea what I want to do haha, suppose its +ev to do something at least thinly related to my degree, but tbh im pretty open to anything, so if anyone wants to give me a job im all ears
:diamond: Ahh poker, wasn't really sure if I was going to play again but if I manage my time right I can make it work so, going to give it a shot with a backer, but after 3 months out I need to study hard to get my game sharp again haha.
:diamond: Managing my own life in generally has always been something I did badly, never got my priorities right and wasted too much time. So for all the above things to work and more I need to efficiently balance my life.

So there you go, lets hope this year is long and prosperous for us all

Tonight I played my first session of poker in 2013, starting back at NL5. Put in a small amount of hands (750ish) and was just under b/e. One misclick where I called a check/shove with AA on what I thought was a good board of A286, but the 6 also brought the flush X( It was a big over shove too.

Anyway, that was early on and I was a little rusty but after that I felt good and taking away the first 100 hands, I went +2BI for the final 650 hands.

Also got a royal flush haha :f_biggrin:

I didn't realise until like 10seconds after he bet that I had rivered the royal flush lets hope its a good omen for 2013

Looking forward now to getting in some volume and crushing these micros.

In other stuff, thru day 2 of p90x and im aching like fuck from all the exercises haha, must say ab ripper x is insane! But really looking forward to doing it again tomorrow!

Also must say its been good to catch up with people in the community, forgot how much you can miss it sometimes but it was definately a +ev life decision to get away from it all for a while, and also starting to see positive signs of managing my life well!

Thats all from me, reached my limit of how long I can spend on here haha, any longer and ill have to find a way to punish myself somehow

Bet the turn. You are missing value there.

Also... Why did he bet the river when the flush comes but not the turn makes no sense ha.

TLDR;
1, Visited SE Asia
2, Loved SE Asia
3, Want to go back to SE Asia

The idea of backpacking all started last year when I was at uni, but it took me until Christmas this year to organise a trip to SE Asia! I had planned to travel with a buddy of mine but I booked it very short notice and he couldn't get the 6 weeks free, wasn't that bothered about travelling alone either though.

So I think I booked it towards the end of December and my flight left on the 9th of January from Birmingham to Kuala Lumpur via Dubai.
I arrived very late on the 10th in Kuala Lumpur, fortunately the hostel I had booked in advance was around 500m from KL Sentral so it meant i didn't have a difficult place to find after a long journey.
The next day I left early and spent the day exploring KL, before an overnight train to Butterworth (Penang). From there I was planning to get the next train after that to Bangkok but when I got to Butterworth the train was full so ended up on the following days train to BKK.
Ended up being around 6 of us all in the same boat, and having no idea about Butterworth or the surrounding area we were kind of stumped.
From what little research I had done on the area I figured we would have more luck finding a place on the island of Penang, so we hit the ferry which cost something like $0.15 lol.
Me and this german girl (forgot her name lol) ended up crashing in this place together, our room cost like $3 each lol, she was hot but nothing happened X( So after dumping our stuff we went and explored the area. Tbh would have liked to stay there longer because it was a really cool place but had already got my ticket to BKK. Anyway so, while I was in KL I was kinda scared to try street food, but here in Penang I really had no choice The malay/indian style curry we ordered was immense and made me totally forget about my worries of hygene in these street stalls and resturants. After a few beers we went and crashed ready for out 24hr overnight train ride to BKK.

They were really comfortable trains and cheap aswell, to go from KL to BKK cost like $45 including the first train being a 1st class seat and the 2nd train above.

Arrived in BKK without booking a place in advance so went to this place a little out of town that the german girl recommended called the artists place, (don't know if i can put links in, so ill add them and if they breach the rules mods can remove them!)

- its a really cool place and nice if you want something out the main backpacker area of khao san road! Stayed in Bangkok for like 3 nights, I knew I was coming back to BKK so didn't rush to do everything, but did the main sights like the grand palace. Don't know if its just me but $15 or so to go in a palace is steep, maybe im just a nit

Early on in my trip I got bored of staying in a place to long so within 3 days of BKK i wanted to go somewhere else. So planned out my next part of the trip meticulously and planned to stick to it! I headed north to chiang mai for a few nights, chiang rai and then chiang khong. In Chiang Khong I stayed at this immense place right on the mekong river. This was the view from outside my bungalow on the river...

After begrudgingly pulling myself away from that spot I headed over to Laos where I did the 2 day boat trip to Luang Prabang. If anyone goes to Laos I highly recommend doing this boat trip, sometimes it can drag but it was a really good trip and definitely worth the money! We stayed overnight in Muang Pakbeng which is literally just a stop for the people on this boat trip as its otherwise pretty difficult and pointless to go there.
The people are really friendly, ended up talking to a kid that worked at the guesthouse I stayed in about snooker and football haha. That was one of my highlights of the trip the kid trying to say "Mark Selby" but it sounded more like Mark Shelly :P
These are the boats I travelled in, one recommendation for if you do ever do this is to sit as far forward as you can because the engine is loud at the back and 8hours next to that isn't nice! Here are the boats...

Spent a few days in Luang Prabang and Vientiane, the bus ride between the two towns is hell, im 5ft11 and it was a nightmare the seats on the coach were way to close together, leaving hardly any leg room, the driver stopped every hour for fag breaks and it was a long and winding journey where you expected to drive off a cliff at any point haha.

Anyway, after that I knew but hadn't planned to go to Pattaya for the WTA Pattaya open, but it coincided with me leaving Laos so I headed from Nong Khai overnight to Bangkok and then onto Pattaya, there isn't really a backpacker scene in Pattaya plus I booked it late so I had to stay in a hotel in the heart of the walking street. Its like a little pearl surrounded by hookers and annoying touts. http://www.jasminehotel-pattaya.com/booking/rezeasy.html I can't believe such a nice hotel is in this location but I didn't mind because it meant lots of bars and resturants were on my doorstep!

When I arrived on the monday it decided it was going to rain all day so didn't see the point in getting tickets to the tennis so got some for the following day, I don't wish to brag but I got this seat for 500baht ($16)...

Not bad huh, I do love my tennis so I loved it that I got really good seats and saw some good matches! I must admit some romanians are hot, Sorana Cirstea :f_love:

After my detour then to the tennis I headed into Cambodia, I was planning to visit Siem Reap and then Phnom Penh but once I got to Siem Reap I really liked it and spent more time there, that I had to head back to Bangkok so I could get somewhere to see the superbowl  I don't regret not going to Phnom Penh because I did the Angkor Wat and all that and that was epic!

I think if your really into that sort of thing you could easily spend a week at the Angkor national park, I was happy to just spend a day there, definitely get a personal tuk-tuk driver for the day to take you to the places you want to go and if you can afford it then a guide would be good if you want to know abit more of this history behind stuff. I was happy to just wonder round taking it all in.

So, after heading back to Bangkok, for superbowl weekend I overslept my 5am alarm on monday morning for the game and missed it all X( Ahh well, all good fun huh After 2 nights back in BKK I booked a beach bungalow on the island of koh samui for 7 days. At this point id got pretty exhausted with all my travelling about so I decided to spend a few days doing nothing but relaxing! This was the view from the steps of my bungalow...

That cost $18~/night roughly, cheap because it wasn't in the main resort it was at mae nam which is the 3rd biggest so alot more chilled out compared to the busy Chaweng and Lamai resorts.

After my relaxing week in Koh Samui I was coming to the end of my trip and there was still a few things I wanted to do so next up was to head to Patong (Phuket), I wanted to go to Karon but again I booked it late so had to go to Patong to a new place that had opened recently, it was right in the centre of the action and called "Kool Backpacker Hostel", this was the best place I had stayed at for partying, there were some brilliant people here that made the experience really good. Plenty of clubbing injuries were picked up here
After 1 hour of rolling in from a night out at Seduction, I was on a tour to James Bond Island! FML, and although I was major hungover the whole day I really enjoyed it, and got plenty of sympathy off some hot british travel agents on holiday
So after a few days living it up in phuket I went to spend my last few days in Singapore with pokerstrategys own "summermonkey", Mr Jeremy Kng himself haha.
Honestly must say Jeremy's family were brilliant and really hospitable, and enjoyed every minute of being in Singapore! Certainly tried some new things thanks to Jeremy which was wicked. Spent two days exploring the city and then went to Singapore zoo too haha to do something different! Really want to go back to Singapore when im not a broke ass backpacker as its a great city! Then after that it was time to head home, so I was on an overnight bus back to KL and then home via dubai again.

Maybe this is really sad but I love aeroplanes and i'd never been on an A380 so when I was booking my flight I had the opportunity to fly KL to Dubai on an A380 but it meant instead of a 3hour stop off in Dubai it was 10hours, meh it was worth it Plus the plane was pretty empty so I got 3 seats all to myself haha.

Overall, travelling on coaches within Thailand and Malaysia was a great alternative to flying, its worth paying a little more for VIP coaches, especially if your taller than the average asian lol, because coaches are so frequent too there is little point in taking the trains that run like once a day.

Anyway thats a concise version of my 6 weeks or so in SE Asia, i've missed so much out but I don't think im capable of putting down all my sick adventures into words, so i hope this suffices, once I get the pics of my camera i'll maybe post some more! Also to anyone interested I manage to live on less than $40/day which included hotels/guesthouses, transport, food, drink and lots of sightseeing stuff!

Recommendation List;
1, Angkor National Park
2, Chiang Khong-Luang Prabang 2 day Slow Boat
3, Phang Nga National Park (James Bond Island)
4, Chiang Mai Wats/Temples
5, Mae Nam, Koh Samui

And if anyone wants more info on any areas drop me a message, ill be happy to share any info I got along the way :)

So its been a steady start on my return, put in around 5k hands at NL5 and currently running at 10bb/100. I actually feel like my game is better now than it was compared to late last year, mainly because I actually studied some books/videos, just need to get the volume in and move up.
Hoping to hit NL10 next week providing "Mr Backer" is happy

Woohoo! I got a mention!

Jeremy - your world famous with a mention in this blog obv, much more reputable than JB, manu et al

Anyway so thru my first 10000 hands at NL5 and it went ok at 4.4bb/100, I think its a good thing im a tad disappointed it wasn't higher.
The plan now is to play 5000 hands at NL10 and see how that goes, from past experience i don't expect there to be much difference in terms of level of opponents, so my expectations are staying high.
Expect to get this volume done over the weekend fingers crossed :f_thumbsup:

Probably gonna play live next week too for the first time this year, will play some donkament at Genting Star City. Also thinking of going up to notts to play at DTD soon, so if anyone in the area wants to meet up that would be cool to meet more PS people :f_cool:

Something to make this boring update more interesting >>> be warned it can make you want summer so bad

Haha yeah, reminds me off Crete so much, makes me want to go back!

So this is a mini update on my NL10 progress, i'm around 2200 hands into my 5000 hand target for this weekend. Most of it came on Friday where I put in around 1.8k hands but finished down around 1.2BI, which I am obviously not happy about but ran into so many cooler spots it was kind of tough to make a profit when I couldn't stay ahead.
Anyway, a new day today and it was also football day woohoo :f_biggrin: Probably the one thing I missed most of all being away from home was going to football games! So west brom got a brilliant result today 2-1 vs Swansea, and it keeps us in with a slim chance of Europe still! BOING BOING. Anyone not familiar with the WBA tradition, basically when we score we jump up and down pumping our arms in the air (see video). If you were doing this out and about you would be taken to the nearest mental hospital but its football so its all good.

Ahh, so after that minor detour, put in a small session to keep the volume ticking over, only around 400 hands or so but played much better and went +1BI. Got in a few interesting spots but pretty much did want I did yesterday, valuebetting this fish-tards but without the cooler rivers to crush me

Tomorrow is Mothers day here in England, so for poker it kind of sucks because I have to get up early to visit the Grandparents X( but once thats out the way I will probably look to put in a few hours of the evening when the tables are even fishier than normal

Here's a nice mix i've been listening too whilst playing, usually I listen too general chart type music but because its such a varied type of playlist (anything from Gangnam style to Tupac-ghetto gospel) I think my play would depend on the song so one minute i'm 4/5betting because i'm buzzing after Dizzee Rascals - Bassline junkie then i'd go more passive listening to Disclosure - White Noise haha.
Decided then to go for one type of music throughout, I do really like dubstep so found this melodic mix which is pretty perfect background music to be good but not too distracting!

Anyway hope you enjoyed the video's/music, and hope everyone is enjoying my ramblings as it's been great to be back playing and blogging! Now I just need to move up to where people respect my raises and my poor blogging skillz :f_biggrin:

Hey guys, gave you abit of a break for a few days after that "mini" update I reached my 5000 hand target, I was happy with my play but disappointing with the result so decided to carry on, haven't agreed on a number with Damian but ill probably put in another 10000 hands.

Had this fun hand the other day ;(

Anyway, so yesterdays session was good, finished up 1BI, but couldn't win any big pots for some reason, think the biggest pot I won in 600 hands was 35bb :( Think I need to get the fishies to jam light on me more lol

Plan today is to put in some more solid volume and crush more and more :f_cool:

Damn, I got lazy updating again. To be honest I haven't played that much poker over the last week, had so much stuff to do but started off this month well, focus hasn't been on volume but just perfecting my game and I feel like Im progressing more and more.
To maintain my goals though I want to be at NL25 by the end of the month if possible.

Damian (spungeh) has roped me into going to Nottingham this weekend with him, quite looking forward to it as I haven't been to DTD before, also gonna meet JB for the 2nd time.
I have like no idea what the plans are other than we leave friday, come back on sunday and we play lots of poker Hope the games are as soft if not softer than when we were in London back in September as they were fun but I don't have Cris here to take money off X(

Update in other stuff, I failed P90X, after 3 weeks I missed a few days with being so busy and then I just ended up not doing it, pissed at myself but im really unmotivated with alot of stuff atm. Anyone want to be my life coach X(

Notts trip report

So me and Damian (spungeh) headed up to Nottingham friday morning, I had a killer headache after way too much free vodka the night before, such is life but anyway we got to Nottingham in the afternoon and met up with Damian's mate. After dropping off our stuff and heading into town for some food, we set off for DTD.
It is by far the best poker room i've ever been in, not including the half naked women obv  but just the amount of tables and how nice it all looks!
Pretty much grinded 50/1 and 1/1 from 5pm till 5am I think, had a rough time though and ended up down about £220, never picked up a decent hand in that time but then you realize I probably only played 300 hands its like meh.
Anyway when DTD closed we headed up to Gala in town and the 50/1 game there was lol bad, made 1 bad float that probably cost me about £30 which annoyed me but other than that nothing much happened, finished up like £20 which was ok for like 1 hours work before all the fish got scared off.
After sleeping from like 8am till 3pm, we hit the jacuzzi *small brag obv* and I think it set me up perfectly, because in around 9 hours at DTD I finished up like £350, and it should have been more than that if I didn't pay off Damian in one spot.
I got kinda tilted though because my back was killing me and desperate for a massage but some dickhead on the 2/5 table must have had the women for like 5hours, pure joke!
Also JB was sat on the table which was good, he was grinding chess with damian which was good because imo damian played less pots while he was playing so it meant I got more opens past him and I played more with the fishes :P rather than him 3betting me constantly.
Again when DTD closed we headed to gala, game wasn't as good as the night before but still really good, I was down like £50 but at the end of the night we decided to play PLO and damian stacked me mwhahahahaha, so i finished up a little bit.
Playing 6 card PLO was so sick, shame the dealer couldn't deal more variants otherwise it could have gotten insanely wild at the end.
So then after finally rolling back in at 8am we decided to stay up and play OFC till we had to get the train home.

Overall for the trip I was up £270 and Damian staked me 50/50 so after expenses I made a small profit which is ok.

Now the plan is to get in more volume online and live, looking to move up to NL25 before the end of the month now hopefully, if all goes well i could take my first shots within the next 10 days.
Live i'm going to start building my own roll for 50/1 and 1/1, so hopefully I can get staked until I have around 8-10BI and then play on my own, the main place I can play is G Walsall, usually they have 50/1 running but I haven't been for a while so not sure how regularly it runs.
Also can go to Broadway but expenses will be higher, Star City doesn't usually run lower than 1/2 so doubt I will play there till I have a bigger roll.

Thats all from me, trying to cut down on time wasting and overall managing my life better so, less time on here talking and more time putting everything into action!

Peace out :f_cool:
