Spoiler

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A♥ A♦

UTG raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 10 BB, fold, UTG calls 7 BB

Flop: (21 BB, 2 players) 4♥ 6♦ Q♥
Hero bets 10 BB, UTG calls 10 BB

Turn: (41 BB, 2 players) J♦
Hero bets 19 BB, UTG calls 19 BB

River: (79 BB, 2 players) K♦
Hero checks, UTG bets 109.5 BB and is all-in, fold

Nasty flop for AA. I was ready to bet/folding against this player. I don't have any notes about his 3b calling range but it can be KK, QQ, JJ, TT maybe sometimes AQ, AK.
So I bet for value here.
Turn: situation is getting worse with J on the turn but again value bet AQ/KK.
River: situation is very complicated and I don't see value bet. I don't want to check/call. Probably worse hands would check back I hope.

Hey,

You have to be value betting against all his range so on the turn you probably already don't have a clear vbet anymore. It's like you have barely 50% so you can potentially vbet. On the river, you don't beat anything so check/fold is fine against his range up to here.

What I want to think about more is whether 3betting preflop is the best play if you know your opponent will just continue with a strong range. You have a strong range, he has a strong range, money doesn't exchange sides that much. I think you can consider just calling preflop vs EP opens in FR. I do it sometimes vs UTG in SH which is quite a bit looser than EP in FR so my thinking is vs FR regs, your 3bet range should change. Keep 3betting vs fish but vs tight regs, think about not 3betting. They just have too tight of a beginning range and when you 3bet they know you have KK+ and play accordingly.

I'm a little confused what you wrote here. I was learned that best play is 3bet with AK, JJ+, even TT because being OOP is huge inconvenience. We will be loss much more than win. You know what I mean.

So... you recommend not 3bet in situation utg vs bb(hero)? or other positions too?

hmmm I read this many times and still don't understand.

could you explain me this? because when we hold AA villain will continue always with worse hands than our. where is the point?

I would like to understand everything...

When you have AA and 3bet you cooler his KK. That's what happens when he is tight. That's all your value.

If you call, you under-rep your hand and play against a wider range that will generally overvalue top pair. It's about getting maximum EV out of his range, not winning the hand more often.

but what about situation when he calls our 3bet like in this case? he can call with wider range because of position. Players still don't fold to 3bet small pocket pairs so probably he will call 99, 88 sth like this...
you know... I try to understand your concept...

so when do you start 3bet AA, KK in situation like this?
what kind of stats does reg have to 3bet AA/KK? vs what kind of reg do you start 3betting AA/KK?

Did you come up with this concept or coach teaches you?

please answer this question because I would like to know you everything about it.

When do they call if they fold >70% to 3bets? Maybe they call QQ, JJ to set mine.. you mostly get one bet extra from them or stack off with an overpair when they hit a set.

There are a few problems with 3betting only AA which I will try to explain but bare with me, it goes a lot deeper than the more simple explanation I first gave you.

If you 3bet only KK+ your range is very defined. 100bb deep you might not be too exploitable but then you cap your calling range very hard because you don't call wide vs EP anyway, you also 3bet predictable and easy to read range so you end up with a very weak calling range.

Furthermore, if you only 3bet KK+, you cannot really be balanced postflop. This is less of a concern at NL50 probably but against competent players here you have to start thinking about it. Having a weak and probably reasonably defined calling range because you 3bet KK+ also leaves you unbalanced postflop when you call. In order words, the range you play vs an EP is already quite tight and defined. If you split it into 3bet and call, you end up with 2 predictable and easy to play against ranges.

In your case, the biggest concern is just wasting value of your hand because they fold often. All the rest is secondary since NL50 is still a stake where even regs might not adjust correctly to your ranges here, as easy to read as they are.

The idea of not having a 3bet range against a tight opening range is quite old. I've talked about it with others quite a bit, it's also in videos for sure but cannot say which one exactly now. I think one of TwiceT's old videos should have it as well.

You mean calling AK preflop as well?

Yes, the idea is to have a strong calling range and no 3betting range against tight regulars that don't spew against 3bets.

we are talking about strong/tight range...
could you tell me what does it exactly mean tight range?
when does tight range end and start loose range?

It's all relative. 30% on the button is tighter than average. You have to check out Equilab and see what hands does that percentage turn into and think of how many hands you can play profitably against it. Numbers are just a reflection of the actual holdings. You should know the possible holdings and not go about it just from percentages. You have to know what those numbers represent in practice, which here, in poker, is the cards.
