Desired coach: lessthanthreee :f_love:

Game: $20-50 6-man turbo jackpot SnG on iPoker.

I find them an interesting challenge for any player and coach because, on the one hand, their normal payout structure is 50/30/20, and thus their bubbles are very similar to the 9-man bubbles (and happen way more often obv), and as a 9-man specialist, <3 is a perfect fit; but on the other hand, they have a 15-BI consolation prize for getting HU 6 times in a row and a massive JP (2500-3000 BI on avg) for winning 6 times in a row, and whenever one has got HU twice or won (or is just running hot in concurrently running tourneys that have started earlier), the third or even the second place 'stop existing'.

So in the same SnG, we can have players using different prize structures for their 'inner ICM pushbots'; in my tiny experience, there are many first-level thinkers that play these just like 9-mans and are tight on the nominal bubble (with 4 left), which could be exploited by loose aggression. (Could I think differently, being primarily a PLO crackhead? :f_biggrin: ) Also, in my past micro-SnG experience I found that many players are too tight HU (or am I too loose?), and that's what I've observed at these midstakes too.

I like it that <3 is open-minded as to ICM (as seen in his Future Game Simulation video) and hope he'll steer me in the right direction :) In fact, the dynamic switch of strategies in jackpot SnGs described above is an extension of FGS to the case of several tourneys being played at the same time :f_biggrin:

Background: as I've written in my intro thread, I've been an utter regfish at PLO20-50 for over 200K hands  but due to that experience, do have a clue about general things like game selection, the mental game, grinding and learning routines, tracking tools, etc. My education in SnGs is limited to playing up to $11 before switching to PLO, having read Moshman's book :f_love: and played around with Pokerstrategy's ICM trainer years ago, but that lack of education is obv fixable.

The MTTs I've played a bit were mainly PLO and NLO8, I'm about breakeven there though it says nothing over the small sample. The only >=4-fugure scores have been a HU chop of a $27 (NLO8) Omania and a $2500 bink in a VIP freeroll (39 entrants contested a top-heavy $3360 prize pool).

Alas I haven't played enough SnGs to draw conclusions - when I learned that the Microgaming network is about to shrink so soon, I rushed to play PLO there until it's too late as I love games there; I'm going to partially return to iPoker around this Saturday and build a more meaningful sample, invest heavily into tools and learn a ton soon, don't worry.

Here's the lol tiny sample so far (only a couple of sessions, with no ICM tools used and lol FPDB used as a HUD as I haven't bought the HE addon to PT4 Omaha yet :f_p: ):

Spoiler

Sustainable? :f_grin:
Goal: A peculiar thing is that rake plays a big role in jackpot SnGs (is 17.5-18% :O) and those who grind them a lot have a slight edge even if they're of average ability (in comparison with the whole field, not only regs). So by sustaining a ROI better than -17% (regs in those games usually have from -10% to -5% longterm, profitting due to huge cashback), I'll still be earning more than most of fellow young Russians. Judging by the sample above, albeit lol tiny, if I were a fish unable to do so, such a heater would happen to me less than 20% of the time, so I think I'm not hopeless :)

P.S. I've noticed that Skodljivec and ErikStenqvist offer Christmas coachings as well. I've had (semi-)private coachings with both and highly recommend them (their explanation manners are amazingly clear). Because I have history with them, I don't feel entitled to apply for their presents - this promo is meant to be a chance for coaches to advertise themselves to potential new students - and though I'll gladly accept their free lesson offers ldo :f_biggrin:, please consider the application for <3's hour as my primary one.

Merry Christmas to everyone! :)

You may find my application silly , but I have to try :P .

Desired coach : who ever is willing to coach NL200-400 , I guess this might be only Pleno , sorry If I am wrong

Game: My main game is NL 200 since a year almost , I am also playing a lot on NL 400 and above on italian sites, i cannot mention obviously.

Background: Started playing before 3 years . Was always a nit in the bankroll management , thus I climbed stakes slowly with around 100 BI , each . Also I play table/stake only If I see people there and I know how I am winning from them - e.g. I can build a total strategy against some and be +EV . I've always wanted to become a true soul eater , my only desire and joy from poker is competing with people and trying to be the best . Although this is my desire I've actually decided to follow the "unfamous" poker player approach -> play NL 200/400 for a living , and forget all the fame and so on . I will just post a graph which is actually my life poker journey so far : (only 100-1k added )

Spoiler

it might look silly guys , sorry I haven't offered free coaching in the english forums , but I do offered them in the Bulgarian one's just to help people there.

Basically I still want to talk for the game with someone since I haven't been able to do so for a while. Also want to talk about some postflop range construction and mainly playing from the big blind. Thanks in advance

About Me

I've been playing poker for a few years and have been sporadically active on PS. Unfortunately I've been stuck on nl25 for about a year now which is brutal  Although I will be taking an nl50 shot before the end fo the year, but in general its been a lack of consistent volume that has held me back. Some of my results throughout the year:

Early June, nl25 rush as well.

nl25 FTP earlier this month

nl25 PKR all played during the last few months

I have a mic, teamviewer, skype etc. And I'm Irish so a fluent(ish) English speaker.

My goals for next year are to move up the limits (nl100 by end of next year would be my realistic aim) with the help of a coach so I'd like to get a taster for what that'd be like; ie I don't want to be told what to do, I'm looking for someone to help me understand the game better and point me in the right direction.

Thanks & Merry Christmas.

Dear Santa Strategy,

I would like to apply for a free coaching from one of these mighty Santa Clause coaching givers that PokerStrategy was kind and thoughtful enough to regroup around such a great initiative.

I'm currently playing NL100-NL200SH and will be more than happy if pleno1, Itsnevereasy or BrokeSoBroke grant me with one of their precious hours (or twelve:D) which I am sure will help me fix at least a part of the biggest leaks in my current game.

My goal is to become one of the toughest regs at NL200 by the middle of next year and start looking at the mid-stakes.

I am convinced that their knowledge, expertise and generous Christmas spirit will help me get much closer to achieving my goals while increasing my overall skills by leaps and bounds.

Looking forward to receiving a positive answer to my application while wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy and profitable New Year!

Best,
S _love:

Fav coach: Ragney/wriggers- follow both your blogs btw

Been playing poker for about 2 years, started HU hypers about 6 months ago, spent ages on 3.5s as small winner but had a few big swings. Finally got a roll to play 7s and went on a massive heater.

Got a new laptop recently so only got 1k games on pt4, want to move up to 15s asap, but first wanna play at least 3k games at 7s as consistent winner. Still don't feel confident in some spots, and some reviews of my games would be cool!

After getting emotionally beaten playing these things, I don't feel it is in my best interest (mentally that is :)) to continue playing them.

I have decided to start back with 6max Zoom micro and would love to get a better understanding of the game from someone like pleno1, BogdanPS or BrokesoBroke

Getting in early for next year :)

Merry Xmas everyone, Santa is on the way :P

I also would like a coaching with pleno, in the format of a video review, in which to also discuss about the HUD and pop-ups. So, something practical, not just theory!

Hey guys,

I would like to point out that the closing date for applications was actually the 18th December.

Don't let that stop you though. Our Santa Clauses are the nicest guys and if you impress them then who knows?

Cheers

Laz

Hi guys!

I recorded the christmas coaching session that I did and I wanted to share it with the whole community as a gift from me :). So here's the full video:

In this specific coaching, we talk about many different topics, including:

  • How to get started with tasks in the morning when you have no motivation
  • How to form new habits
  • How do you balance learning theory and putting in volume
  • How do you build effective poker study groups
  • When should you take a day off

If you want to have a coaching session with me, check out this thread:

[NEW] How to Become a 6-Figure Poker Player: The Strategies and Systems That You Need to Succeed :).
