if he is maniac postflop, imo every bluff catcher is easy call. Your hand is a good blocker, there are many busted draws.

It's as gingerkid says, with such barreling frequencies we are incentivised to call with all our bluffcatchers.

However - imo it's actually reasonable to underdefend preflop and make postflop life easier. Villain is wide enough that we can exploit him by simply playing tight preflop and then calling down with most holdings postflop.

Agree that it would be also exploit due to his huge mistakes postflop. But what do you mean exactly by playing tighter preflop, which hands to fold? imo any broadway card is good enough to flat, because once it flops pair it will be easy call down, a lot of equity vs villian range. small PP play good to hit set with huge implieds. low SC/gappers, I am not sure? Imo we can use them to flop GS or similar and then shove turn when he bets, he cant do much anyway? So I dont see what would we fold, imo all hands from standard defend range should have much higher EV of flatting than vs standard villian, so I dont see a reason to tigthen preflop range.

What you said is true, and is fine. My suggestion is an alternative that involves less skill and can end up being higher EV as an exploitative measure depending on your skill level.

There are many situations where an option can be theoretically correct but actually ends up lower EV when the postflop decisions become very complex. So imo ego can get involved here, we can technically call very wide preflop. But good luck facing those 3barrels with 3rd pair when you know you beat some of villain's bluff range.
