Thoughts

Calling the 3bet pre-flop may be a mistake but was close enough to call20.

Someone new like me in my stream chat suggested I might call instead of raise on the flop to try and get more money out of him, so I figured I'd ask here if I made the right play.

I think calling is fine here but raising makes it a stronger play in order to get more out of him. What are the ranges that you put him on? K,Q,J on the turn could be a scare card and he could easily represent a straight. Also it depends on how he has played so far. Is he tight or aggro? He is surely going to continue with cards like, AK, AQ,AJ, AT,KQ,KJ,QJ(of course he would not re-raise preflop with KJ,QJ,KQ)

I would go for a raise here personally(if you really wanna extract more from him). Look out for the turn so that you don't hit any scare card on the board.Just my opinion dude.

Good luck!!!

It's definitely a dry enough board to check-call.

I prefer a check-raise, though; he's got a lot of Ax in his range that he won't want to fold. I imagine a lot of hands like QQ check back that flop, so he's polarised between top pair+ and air. That makes the raise/call decision quite player-dependent and barring reads I prefer raising.

Not sure about preflop, I am folding this even with call 20. But I might be wrong. I just have heard from some coahc I guess to fold OOP such weak PPs vs 3bet. I would start considering with 88. THe problem is that we might not get much money OOP even from Ax. Also he has lot of trash, but the playability for him with the trash is better cause, he 3bets suited hands for example, he hits equity, he can bluff a ton.

You also bluff when he does not bet, but you have only 2 outs.

Since the board is dry, I am just calling. I think BTN has many bluffs, so just let him barrel with his weak equity. Let him hit bit more equity like GS with thos K, Q or J.
The ace which he bets I do not think is folding een when K Q or J hits, because often the ace which he bets will be strong one. No need for him to bet now A6s for example. And A6s will often fold to a raise anyway, unless its fish. But still from fish you can get from later steets, fish will not fold A6 if K comes.

You can call pre. I have understood that in 3bet pots you can use a rule of call15 instead of call20.

OTF you can x/c since the board is dry. I don't hate x/r here but I was thinking what kind of x/r range do we have on a flop this dry in 3bet pots? There is no draws so all we x/r here is sets?

Call pre is debatable but not bad at this level. We're basically check/folding every flop that doesn't have a 2, but at the same time sets will get paid off by overpairs/TPTK a lot more often than at higher stakes.

That crossed my mind, but we can x/r stuff like KsJs, KhQh, 54s etc.

Preflop I'd just fold 22 OOP, if we were in position it would be better (it's harder to get value when we hit OOP).
On this flop if we raise, I prefer smaller sizing, maybe 1.7$. No need to look strong and we can still shove turn if we want. I'd still just call and let him bluff/overplay though, some players will fold even AQ on the flop to a raise and this would be really bad.

if you have a balls to call OOP 3bet with those hands, you can :) I am not ever calling those OOP. KJ KQ I am 4beting and 54s I am folding :)

And if some good players call those preflop, probably they have good skill and are able to win.

I mean this is "wow" for me to see that you have those in your range preflop.

Callin pre is not ok and not even debatable. Any two cards can make a higher pair...

On flopxr seemsok. We him bet with all his range and then raise.

You're going to have to dig a little deeper into this for me. What pocket pair would you have to see to call here?

I think calling pre to set mine is not a huge mistake but it is a bit debatable because we will lose any set vs set and as nitrol said, any 2 cards can make higher pairs. Standard pocket pairs you cold call with are JJ,TT maybe 99.

We're not really planning on calling pre for the value of our pair...

Also the other two deuces can't make a higher pair :f_cool:
