Hi,

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): $2.01 (100.5 bb)
BB: $2 (100 bb)
UTG: $5.64 (282 bb)
MP: $2.92 (146 bb)
CO: $2 (100 bb)
BTN: $2.29 (114.5 bb) (VPIP:19.00;PFR:17.00;Hands:127)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K A
3 folds, BTN raises to $0.06, Hero raises to $0.20, BB folds, BTN calls $0.14

Flop: ($0.42) A 2 6 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.20, BTN calls $0.20

Turn: ($0.82) 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.36, Hero calls $0.36

River: ($1.54) 7 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $1.53 and is all-in, Hero calls $1.25 and is all-in

PreFlop - BU raises to 3bb. I re-raise 1 pot w/AKo. BU calls.

Flop - I bet 1/2 pot. BU calls.
Turn - I check as i see no point in betting. BU bets 1/2 pot. I call.
River - I check. BU bets all-in. I think he can have KsQs,QsJs, JsTs,Ts9s,9s8s,8s7s,7s6s,6s5s,KsJs,QsTs,Js9s,Ts8s,9s7s, as well as 22,66 but I would have expected him to check them back on the turn (assuming that he calls that wide preflop). On the other hand, he can have A2s+,AJ+ that he might be overplaying by betting twice on turn and river willing to get paid by a worse hand. I call.

Do you think I was the one who overplayed his hand?; Do you think it is an error to call on the river?

Thanks

I think preflop 3bet against this opponent is fine. If he would be more tight I would just call PFR.
I would bet more on the flop - 2/3 pot and also bet 2/3 pot on the turn as a valuebet and for protection against draws.

I don't think he would call that wide preflop.

I would check/call the flop, raised the turn and fold on reraise or allin on river because his shove often means really big hand on this limit
at least two pair which beats you.

I think you gave villain a way too large range of hands he could have OOP. Therefore, I would have made a second barrel OTT for value based on two reasons:
1) The 4s doesn't change much on villain's range apart from a completed FD
2) You are likely ahead since a set on such flop villain would want to re-raise for value (Ace and FD)

The choices I would make afterwards are something like this:
a) If villain re-raises you OTT you can safely fold your hand
b) If villain calls OTT chances are he will check OTR and you can value bet a bit more than 1/3 behind since there are many worse hands that can call (A-10+, 10-10 - KK).
c) If villain bets OTR it requires a bit more stats on him (Agg, WTSD/W$WSF/W$SD) for bluff frequencies but mostly he has you beat looking to his VPIP/PFR IMO and I think I would fold.

Hope this helps. Good luck at the tables!

Pre flop and flop ok. I would bet/fold on the turn.

No point on betting turn?
He could still have weaker aces, pairs, pair+draw and so on...
Like la55i said, bet/fold turn is way better.

he is BTN, he is IP

agree. The turn card sucks. On turn when he bets, I do not think he is bluffing often - he now has flush or strong ace. But I am not sure how oponets do with AJ on this turn. Cause not many worse can call probably, I mean 2nd pair. Ok, maybe hand like 99 is calling. So AJ, AQ might check some of the time and so we are missing one street. But it is very likely taht those will call all 3 streets. Especialy at this limit.

Actually its interesting. Would need to know how often do they have such hand comparing to flush.

I tried to put him on range on turn:

I do not use 22-66 becuase those most likely raise flop.

So he has many pair + draws, and flush is relatively rare and he will tell it by raising turn. Actually I am thinking - if we bet/fold the turn always - why not exploit in his shoes by call flop raise turn a lot with bluffs? Maybe somebody can tell :)

U already answered. Flush is rare.
If u are playing agaist me, as we were both regulars, for example, I ll note that ur raising turn in that spot doesnt matches w real chances (database vs regulars is easy to achieve), and u are trying to exploit me. So, u ll get a properly response to that: a shove on ur turn raise.

I like the idea of betting turn. A turn raise is rarely a bluff here.

Why do you assume he would've checked 22 and 66. I wouldn't expect an average player from nl2 to twist his hand into the bluff that way. If he had, I'd even clap a little.

Doesn't a TPGK hand need some better protection on flop with those draws out there?
I wonder at what point in the hand Hero thought that TPTK is a good enough hand to go to an all-in showdown.

From Villains point of view: he sees a SB (full stacked) reraising PF more than 3 times his raise.
The flop is A-high with FD possibilities. The SB bets small: less than 1/2pot.
On the turn the flush arrives. The SB shuts down. BTN bets less than 1/2pot. He could have bet bigger, but then a riverbet would be less than potsize. He could have checked behind but on a check on the river from the SB he must overbet the pot to get all-in. He cannot be shure that the SB would call such a big bet.
As the SB called the turnbet BTN could know SB has at least a made hand. Still he bets potsize on the river.

Hero's calls cost many a time more than a Hero's fold.

but you need decent sample, who knows , maybe 1k hands or so to know if this stat is correct, actually no idea. Maybe even more. Of course unless you catch me bluffing once. So vs unknown regulars, maybe thats exploitale :)

Plus - even if we have enough sample - if I raise you only with flush, even when its rare, you always know that its a flush, and so you fold. So still it has to be some amount of bluffs for balance. I mean flush is rare, ok, so we could have some rare bluff.

Thats absolutely right, and the real thing about bluffing in general... makes u extract more value when u do have a good hand, while making these bluffs in a ratio that it cant be unprofitable. Thats all about balancing stuff... without going wild for none of the sides and keeping villain on a constant guessing game.

The biggest mistake is made on the turn. By checking the turn you gave him the chance to bluff you off the river as you showed weakness and the FD is now completed, as well as you gave him the chance to think he's better with hands like KQs or KJs.
Bet / fold turn and you would not lose your whole stack as I highly think he's having a flush on the river shove (even though some equations shows he's showing a flush only >10% of the time).
His stats seems really decent and I highly doubt he would risk his whole stack with an air type of a hand here in this spot.

And one more thing - I think your betting pattern should be much more bigger in this spot! You're having a monster hand on the flop and I see no reason to bet only half a pot. Prefer a bet from 80-90% of the pot.

I think vs fish that is good, but vs thinking player - he might understand that its a monster and not call with hand like 2nd pair at all, and call with hand like AJ only one street.

Or is this because its NL2, so even thinking player is fish? :)

1/2 pot bet in 3bet pots is standard. With TPTK vs a fish you can bet bigger. In this hand nothing suggests that villain is a fish so I think betting 80-90% of the pot is a mistake.

On dry boards you can bet even a little bit smaller than 1/2...
