Day 64 (2016.01.27)
And another day streaming - not too much though. Played just 3 sessions - first one GREAT, the second one was TERRIBLE and the last one was just fine. Tried to jump around for a work-out warm-up but it still was bit painful so I decided to stop trying till the next week. And I did some programming too - overall just a regular day.

Hands: 1983 (total 34409) in 3 sessions of 10NL Zoom SH
Net: -6.48$ (total +16.64$) and +3.68$ by EV

Day 65 (2016.01.28)
I felt great today - played solid and tight poker, later hand couple of tough hands and one huge bad beat - so almost b/e again. Running below EV and having that EV positive for the last 3 days is actually a good sign I believe. This streaming idea might really be a good thing - it helps a lot to think things through and explain it to myself. And to others of course - but there are not many of viewers right now which is alright.

Played very little, got 10$ cash quest prize and some profits - and stopped. So much things to do today and on weekend - but still gonna play VIP freerolls tomorrow and Zoom too - gotta get this Goldstars steps or whatever. And will need to spend some time for weekly and monthly review.

Week 15 (including weekend)
I start off this week playing just two tables and did rather good. Then it went tougher - and then back to "good" again. At some point I've added third table and for now that's the setup. The biggest news this week - I streamed on Twitch everyday - almost every session. I was recording them anyway using OBS and I thought - why not just stream at the same time? Have 5 followers and 5 viewers current top record xD But at this point number of viewers is the least important thing - what's really helpful is the fact that I actually am talking during the sessions, trying to explain my actions and I feel more focused and responsible, especially when there are couple of viewers around. Who knows - it might be one of the tools that will help me to breakthrough this time. So - once again - feel free to join and comment, you're always :welcome: http://www.twitch.tv/demonrax

Stats, results and bankroll challenge report is here.

Played at Zoom 10NL 6 max: 12308 hands
Net result: +52$ and +80$ by EV
Current bankroll: 656$ (+108$)

Other stuff:
Kept working hard on learning Deutsch this week and although progress slowed down a little - but it feels good. No progress with workouts - pain was still there and it stopped me from doing anything. Doing some progress with programming as well, same "nothing happens" in the big projects but slow and steady moving forward in the small one.

Going to take some time and review the whole month soon, see you then.

P.S. Oh yeah, and by the way - if you haven't noticed it yet - on the second post of this thread I'm posting daily updates and graphs, and also every week putting this beautiful graph with the challenge progress - check it out!

2016 January (starting Jan 11th) results
Poker
I hit off really good in the beginning of the month running both hot and lucky. Quickly got 10 buy-ins up over like 5k hands playing 4 tables everyday. Then everything went back to normal and I lost around 20 buy-ins by EV over next 20k hands. At that point I had to stop and thing about everything - and I've decided to slow down a little bit and play just 2 tables for a while. Quickly it became 3 tables and that format suits me best for now. Over the last 10k hands my EV went up for about 10 buy-ins - and most importantly I run BELOW EV now, not ABOVE!

In the beginning of the last week I came up with the idea of streaming on Twitch - and so I did. It gave me some troubles at first - setting up everything and stuff, but in the end it felt like a good addition to my daily routine.

Strategy-wise - I've been working whole month with asimos, he's doing a great job being patient and a good friend, but at the same it's great when he's criticizing my plays and goes harsh. It really helps me to get my mindset right and focus more mentally and physically on my game. I feel that overall I'm improving, I feel more confident and less tilty, especially last week when I had to stream and talk through most of my sessions. I express my thoughts and discuss hands during those sessions and that also helps a lot.

Stats are finally coming back to somewhat normal - a bit tighter that is. VPIP/PFR went down to around 28/24, 3bet is 9%, WTSD/W$SD are great 25/51 - overall it feels much solid and reasonable. Unfortunately I couldn't hit 45k hands planned because I had to play 2-3 tables instead of 4 last week, but 40k is a solid volume I believe for now.

Didn't play much Spin & Go's this month. Together with some VIP freerolls had maybe 20 tourneys total at max with profits around 10$. Grinded 10 new VIP steps too, getting around 100k which worth 100$ I guess. And on top of that I got sick all of those Cash Game Quest rewards, I mean ALL OF THEM! That is 33 days, everyday - with total profits of 127$ (including 1x50$, 2x10$, 18x2.5$ and 12x1$). And there's more - deposited 3 weeks for the bonuses and got around 50$ there as well although cashed out that 50$ by mistake at the end of the promo when I was getting back what I've deposited xD

Programming
I've joined and been working on four projects now, one small which is almost finished, there's just me and one other guy who is an artist. We're making a simple 2D runner game for the mobile and the whole game is basically ready with the design and gameplay programming. What's left to do is some polishing, testing - and we're going to try to release the game during next month.

Three other projects are rather huge. All teams are young, talented and inspired people who have a vision of the game they wanna make, but the vision isn't clear and lack of management and leadership bring the projects down a little bit. But I'm trying to do my part and most of all - learning of the whole project management and team work. Sooner or later I'm planning to start my own project, already have couple of ideas and one of them is actually written down as a full game design document, it was a part of one the courses homework assignments.

Speaking of which - finished two courses, they were rather interesting and somewhat useful actually. One was Introduction to Game Development by Michigan State University and the other is Introduction to Game Design by California Institute of the Arts. Both are parts of the 5-course specialization series and for the following month I've signed up for other five courses already - I hope I'll have time to finished them all.

I'm also working on improving my C# skills. Reading some books and watching tutorials a lot - but mostly related to game development and Unity engine. Unfortunately those Microsoft certificate exams are too distant from my current goal, they deal with multi-threading and stuff - all that I don't really need right now. But at some point I'm hoping to jump into it and work some with the XNA, .NET and Visual Studio.

Sport
It was rather a good start of the month. I've been doing more advanced workouts and at first it felt overwhelming. But after a week or so - I felt so fired up and was putting even more effort. But unfortunately in the beginning of week 14 I hurt my neck and upped back really badly - I still don't know what it was - the cold, the stress, or the effort I put into those workouts - but in any case I couldn't continue with workouts at all. I could barely sleep - in fact laying down in bed was the most painful for some reason, I was struggling with finding a calm and relax pose to sleep and EVERY single move would just hit me with incredible amount of pain - so I was waking up even if I was asleep.

I had to skip all the basketball sessions as I mentioned in the beginning of the month and I also didn't go for a single jogging session. Well, being lazy, overwhelmed with other chores and the fact that the weather was actually very shitty - those are all excuses but not valid reasons, I know. But something had to drop out - and it's fine, because I didn't want to force myself to something that I would really hate and bring me down. So I am still hoping to add it back to my schedule someday - but for now I'm dropping the jogging out.

Deutsch
I had to miss just one day of German learning, don't quite remember what was the reason, but anyway - I'm pretty happy with progress. Finished the A1 book and moved to A2 - it goes slower and it might take more time than I planned for it - but still it's good, slow but steady.

Other stuff
I'm pretty happy and proud of myself - I woke up at 6 a.m. every single day this month! Most of the time I got out from the bed and did some stuff. Sometimes I stayed in bed, reading and snoozing sometimes - which I don't like too much. But overall - I fucking did it!

I've been looking for a job almost on a daily basis. Sent out tons of resumes but so far - not a single positive response. I'm starting to feel even more desperate about it to be honest. Signed up or refreshed my accounts at Xing, LinkedIn and Monster.de - so far no luck.

Trying to spend as much time as I can with the kid and work on our relationships with my wife - but not much progress there neither. Gotta think about it and come up with a plan I guess.

2016 February plans
Plans for the next month are simple really. Continue with playing 10NL Zoom 2-3 tables, streaming and recording all sessions - aiming to get 2k per days so it's 40k hands total. Hopefully I'll do good and will be able to take a shot at 16NL during this month. Going to wake up at 6 a.m. 20 days and do 20 workouts at least once a day. Pain is almost gone so I'll start with easy ones and will try and build up on that. Plus I'm going to play basketball twice - have to skip two more weeks but then - boom! And will look for additional sessions - hopefully will be able to play 2-3 times a week next month. And maybe I'll sign up for a swimming pool once a week with the kid. I am also going to learn Deutsch 20 hours, gotta finish A2 and move to B1. Well I explained programming earlier - will keep doing the courses and code stuff, hopefully will release the first project or at least the beta version of the game. Will keep looking for a job and more projects to work on, maybe something more promising will pop up.

That's it for now, guys. Thanks for your support and good luck in February!

Day 67 (2016.02.01)
Had to cut the day short today - end up losing almost 5 buy-ins in 3 sessions - just... gonna take a break till tomorrow. At least my EV is the same as the green line! Not sure if it's a good thing though xD I've also did the workouts - went slightly easy. And studied Deutsch just for half an hour. Didn't feel too good whole day and sneezing now in the evening. Hopefully I won't get sick or something - tons of work is in front of me!

Day 68 (2016.02.02)
Ouch! Another tough day at the office... yesterday I was getting dealt KK/AA a lot - but at least I got some profit. Today I got dealt a lot too - but always some kind of a sick board so I either had to fold or just lost the stack. I hate my showdown stats as well - around 27% both yesterday and today. So I'm going to focus on that from now on and gonna try to fix it.

I had to reduce the workout load today as well - it was focused on hands and shoulders and it didn't feel perfectly fine yet, so I just did 2 sets instead of 3 - but I think that's alright, I feel pumped and getting back into shape - that's what matter.

Streaming went fine I guess - probably people like to see me run bad and tilt xD I had a sky high number of viewers today (8) and got two more subscribers (now it's 7 total) - so it's getting better. So - regroup and fight back tomorrow! Join me on Twitch!

Day 70 (2016.02.04)
Getting so tired... Again played and streamed just two sessions - but both went rather good. But so busy during the day with all the stuff - programming, German, courses, work-outs. Actually I completely forgot to do the short one today...

Got these yesterday - the book and the pillow.

They kinda complement each other too xD But seriously - the pillow is great! I feel extremely comfortable laying on it both on the side and on my back, absolutely no pain in the neck. Unfortunately I still move around while I sleep - and then it hurts a little. But the pillow itself - amazing, really!

The book is superb as well. I've downloaded several PDFs on C# to check them out - this book was the most appealing to me. But I hate e-books and I love real books, especially when I learn something - so I purchased the book. 1100 pages of pure pleasure - variables and methods... such a nerd and learning-freak like me - it's a killer. So now I have even less time to do other stuff - but I'm trying to control myself.

Day 71 (2016.02.05)
Another Friday, dammit. Was actually doing pretty good after the last 100 hands or so... I don't know is this happening this way? Everything goes fine, you know, slow and steady, I work my ass off to squeeze out the profits in tight spots, etc... Then BOOM! They hit AA three times in a row and either slowplay it, or hit a set or we just stack off preflop. Why the variance can't be more evenly distributed, ffs? So annoying...

And then I hit AA... nobody cares... I hit a set... nobody cares... lol... deal with it, Jay...

*sigh* OK, deep breath, exhale... sorry about that, guys... Had to cut it a little bit short anyway, gonna catch up on weekend - got like 400 hands left to play to reach 10k planned for the week.

Week 16 (including weekend)
I sat down pumped up to play some poker in February - and boom! My head hit the wall... In first couple of days I was down 9 buy-ins - it's not 20 of course like I had before, but still - pretty painful. Although it was mostly variance - I still made mistakes. Some reviews helped me to get back on track and variance changed it's mind too I guess - I went on an upswing for around 13 buy-ins. But then on Friday - another boom! And basically I'm breakeven for the week. That's bit unfortunate because I was already thinking about trying out 16NL next week - but I guess I'll have to wait some more and work a little bit harder.

I've played a little on weekend, but not too much - and sat down to play some 3$ Spin & Go's - that wasn't perfect neither, won just 8 out of 23, missed all the bigger multipliers too and ran below EV. Down 15$ there as well - not the best week anyways. But I had a review session with the coach and made some mental adjustments. Ready to go tomorrow!

The Twitch streaming is going fine as well, it helps me a lot to think and talk things through. Met some new people, improved quality, learning and getting better at it too I guess. Here are stats and results, and bankroll challenge report is here.

Played at Zoom 10NL 6 max: 10006 hands
Net result: -14.45$ and -3.12$ by EV

Other stuff:
Missed one day of Deutsch and didn't catch up on weekend - but that's OK, still have time to fix everything. Woke up at 6 a.m. every single day - although was laying in bed and snoozing couple of times. I'm thinking to move to 7 hour sleep next month instead of 6, we'll see... Started off with workouts actually, doesn't hurt too much - going to pace slowly and increase the load over the next week or two. Finished another course called Principles of Game Design on Coursera and currently working on four more. Programming... I've got the book and reading it a lot. But projects are not moving anywhere. Found another one, this time it looks serious - guys are about my age, more focused, have management and organization going on, the game is shaping up already - so hopefully I might be able to work a lot on it. I had to quit 3 other big projects though, going to finish stuff I was doing - and leave it. The small one that was almost done? Yeah, it's still almost done, progress slowed down a lot since we're getting closer to the release state. Hopefully now when I've got just two projects to focus on - I'll have more time to work on both.

Spend a lot of time this week looking for a job too. Sent out a lot of CVs, using LinkedIn mostly - and also preparing the CERN Post Career Break Fellowship application for those who had a break in their career after finishing PhD. Deadline is March 1st - but hopefully everything is going to be done and sent out by the end of the next week.

So it was an intense week indeed. I hope you had a good time as well - and good luck to all of us! See you next week, Jay is out.

Day 72 (2016.02.08)
Tough day... AGAIN! Am I doing something wrong or is it just variance? That's my eternal question. Coach points out my mistakes and is trying to show how much I would've save avoiding them - but it's not too convincing unfortunately because I really improved my game a lot. And the mistakes are minor and piling up, for sure - but still, it feels like I'm either missing something important or... yeah - just variance.

Start my day dropping around 5 buy-ins in 3.5 sessions - and was going to stop already - then hit couple of good hands and now it doesn't look too bad. But my WTSD was around 18-19% at the lowest point and W$SD was like 40-42% - how crazy is that? Was playing super tight and getting to showdown with top of my range - but still was losing a lot.

Anyway... looking forward to put in some more hands tomorrow...

Day 73 (2016.02.09)
Did a little better today. Although I didn't wake up at 6! Barely got up at 9 for some reason, rushed in to do programming stuff, had to play with the kid - so basically had 2-3 hours missing from today's schedule. At least I had time to do the workout and play some poker.

At first it didn't feel good, but then - had some hands going. Then it was swingy again and finally end up in some profits. Hit QQ/KK/AA like 60 times in 2000 hands which is twice as much as it is normal statistically. But didn't win too much with those - usually got myself into a terrible spot preflop and had to fold. And I'm done with the 3 steps promo - got 1$ of pure profits! Bought another 25$ using StarsCoins, oh, yeah, forgot to mention - bought 100$ yesterday as well, to make myself feel better.

Gotta focus tomorrow to wake up at 6 again, do the Deutsch and also the short workout - I miss it way too often.

Finally a lucky day. Did hit really well. And I felt guilty at the same time. I don't want to hit well and get lucky. Let me have a steady flow of mediocre spots where I can use my skills and hopefully get the profits. I don't need those HUGE winning days and HUGE losing days when it's either everything goes my way or exactly the opposite way. Is that normal?

Day 76 (2016.02.12)
Sorry about being so brief on Thursday - had another terrible day and didn't want to steam off in the blog like I did in the past. I guess I can describe most of the day because it actually was rather weird anyways. It also looks like a poker hand with the river bad beat too. On preflop I woke up at 6 a.m., worked for several hours, finishing up some programming stuff for projects, played with the kid, we also finished watching The Martian - he's a fan of planets, stars, spaceships etc, well, who isn't when you're 7 years old? Anyways... It was great... on the flop after the lunch I've played a session... one of the most annoying session ever I might add. I was hitting EVERYTHING! Seriously, like 7 times sets, 5 times straights etc. For real! But... I didn't get paid! By the end of that session I bumped into couple of coolers and finished with 2.5 buy-ins stuck! When I was hitting like superhot! It was ridiculous, but still - fine... After that on the turn it got even better. We went to a swimming pool with the kid, had some fun for 2 hours or so - it was also great. Went back home, picked up some burgers in McDonalds on the way (I think we haven't done that in last 2-3 months or so), then sat down to watch Superbowl. And still - it was great, we've been doing this for 5-6 years now, and kid was kinda interested - but not really. Just funny men running around with a funny ball. But this year it was different - he's getting older I guess. He was curious about the rules, asked meaningful questions etc. I don't think he liked the game too much but at least he wanted to learn something about it.

So the whole day was great - but then on the river, after he went upstairs to bed - the bad beat came. Huge argument with my wife that probably ruined all the work we put in during the last months trying to fix our relationships... I just can't describe how devastating that was and how hopeless we both feel right now. Starting again from scratch... I've streamed another session that night but probably shouldn't even bother because it wasn't a good one neither.

Could sleep that night too... stayed up till like 5 a.m. and obviously couldn't wake up at 6 - but I woke up around 10, so I will count that. Anyway, yesterday it was Friday, tough day as always, but I felt little better, played just one session and a decent one too. Went out to play some soccer with the kid. I think I'm gonna count the swimming pool towards the workouts because it really was. And the soccer session as a "short workout". Missed my Deutsch and the whole day was rather unproductive for obvious reasons.

Week 17 (including weekend)
Another rather shitty week to be honest. At least I was running BELOW EV - that's good for a change. It's been around a month I'm at the same level at my bankroll challenge, can't move further at 10NL... I wonder if I need some drastic adjustments or those are some minor issues. It feels a lot is still relies on variance heavily though. We'll see about that - going to some DB analysis and check out some hands.

Here are stats and results, and bankroll challenge report is here.

Missed two more days of Deutsch and that's annoying! Too much stuff was going on unfortunately... Didn't wake up at 6 a.m. one day neither. Workouts went fine, although kid was around and that didn't help. Did the exercising for 3 days then had a swimming pool and a soccer sessions. Neck and back feel much better but now it's the arm and shoulder, feel kinda weakened - especially after 2 hours of swimming. Programming goes fine too - the book is great! Also finished up some stuff for different projects and quit them. Just two left now - and I'm gonna focus on those.

By the way if you're interested - here are couple of the projects I uploaded to the server. First is the long-time ago almost-finished game called Visioneer, we made it with the friend of mine who is an artist and those are his artworks. The idea was mostly aesthetic - just a simple world where the hero is a photographer or an artist who travels around and finds nice spots to take pictures. The problem was - we needed A LOT of the artwork. We used the ones we already had - but it's too much work to bring some more...

Anyway, here's the link if you wanna try it out Visioneer (you'll need to install Unity Web Player of course), you can walk around, use the "meter" on the top-right corner to find "nice spots" take pictures pressing SPACE button and check out the inventory with TAB button.

Another project I've uploaded is the inventory system. Well, there's not much to look at - almost everything is under the hat. But you can play around with picking up items, sort it in the inventory, move around, drop by dragging out and scrap using right-mouse button click. Here's the link to the inventory system - and yeah, use TAB to open the inventory itself of course. The visuals and the models are standard assets, I have nothing to do with it.

See you next week, Jay is out.

Day 77 (2016.02.15)
What a tough Monday it was. I jumped into the development and coding right away, actually was so hooked up - I didn't stop till the lunch. So I missed my Deutsch session but at least did the workout part. Then I jumped back into coding and didn't have time to play poker too till the late night. But I had a good review session with the coach asimos and then we played some 25NL too. After that I had a session of 10NL - and it was FULL... I mean literally. I couldn't join the tables! I was thinking to go ahead and play some more 25NL but eventually it let me play 10NL. It wasn't GREAT - but fine. And I'm lagging behind with the number of hands again - gonna catch up during the week and weekend.

Hands: 1006 (total 17773) in 2 session of 10NL and 25NL Zoom SH
Net: +20.34$ (total -15.57$) and 7.26$ by EV
Bankroll: 748 (+26$)
