Hey! River check fold? because he either has showdown value that he is not going to bet with, or a flush. (Or what about betting small to get calls from 2 pairs, and to deny him the possibility to interpret our check as weak and turn a 2p into a bluff)- he was a fish, so he could have had a set or 2p that he is calling a small bet with

Hi,

Preflop: Fold, your hand is too weak in a multiway pot.
River: I would bet small.

Hozk.

Folding pre-flop is a catastrophical mistake. It's a fold from SB. This isn't close, even in high rake game (micro) it's a defend. You need to call pretty wide here.
River is a bluff on a brick.

River is def a check call. You're too high up your range to ever consider folding. You need flushes in your checking range vs reg. You could consider betting small vs big station who never bluffs when checked to. Against a fish thats overbluffy spazz I still cc

PPT ranks this hand to 31%. I wouldn't say it's a catastrophical mistake, but in ante games you get such a good price to hop in. Post flop you played it fine, river is a check-call as said.

It absolutely is a catastrophical mistake. Every single high stakes reg in PLO nowadays fold between 0 to ~20% from BB. WIth Sauce leading the pack with close to 0% fold vs any position. I don't play highstakes, but at PLO200 no good reg has a BB fold higher than 28%.

There was an interesting video on blind defense that changed the game. It was about BB/SB. I don't wanna advertise a competing video site but trust me, the advice came from the top players in the world.

While we're at blind play. Bvb, you dont fold anything but absolute trash 22xx offsuit, trips etc. Fold above 5% is an absolute joke in bb vs small blind situation. Small blind fold to steal you wanna go for something 70ish.

I agree on sb vs bb, but it has nothing to do with this.

I know what winrate is possible with the "old way" from the blinds. What is the normal winrate when your ranges are super wide?

In PLO200+ the rake is A LOT lower than at micros. If you play for stacks (100bb), in PLO200 you pay less than 1,5bb as rake. In PLO10 you pay 8,5bb.

To answer your question, if all other spots are played the same, the player defending his blinds better will win more. Being tight to the point of folding is 5598ds is being stuck years behind the game. I promise you you won't find ONE winning midstakes+ reg who will agree with folding here.

I agree that rake paid on micros is huge. However, where it's gonna matter is spots closer than this. This is a super clear cut call. I don't like to be dramatic or overstate stuff, but folding here is a HUGE mistake, micros included.

Yes, but midstakes is not the micros. Rake is really high, when you have to pay 15-20bb/100 in rake, it makes some situations -EV that are +EV at midstakes. Another thing are the opponents, at micros a lot of your winnings come from showdown as average opponent doesn't really like to fold.

I have no doubt about midstakes regs, but if playing hand xxxx from BB is smallish +EV at midstakes, due the rake it becomes -EV at micros. And if decent portion of the +EV comes from fodling equity, that is too decreased at micros.

One reason why the most common advice at micros is "play tight from the blinds" is also due the fact that most micro players are not yet very good poker players. They don't have the skills that midstakes regs do have. So playing with marginal hands from oop is just putting them to situations where their skills are not enough to make profit. The more edge you have postflop to your opponents, the more hands you can play.

I personally think that starting with strong ranges and then loosening up when you improve as a player is better than starting with loose ranges and loosing money while not knowing where the mistakes are.

I'm well aware of that. This is a nice sum up and I agree with a lot of your points.

But this is NOT a marginal situation. I'm 100% confident it's a call with a huge rake at micros. Folding is a HUGE mistake at micros, and GIANTIC mistake higher.

I created a new thread about blind defense at micros, as it is really interesting topic: https://forums.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=373023&goto=firstnew

Folding preflop isn't HUGE mistake. Hero loses 1bb for folding. If his EV for calling is something like +2bb in the long run, that fold becomes -3bb mistake. Which is not HUGE. It's 3bb.

Well, small mistakes add up quickly. This is a high frequency spot. If you fold that, you fold a lot of other hands that are snap call defends.
