Last night we drove 110km to visit my brother, since at Christmas when I took him home I had left the footrests for his wheelchair in my car.
I just noticed it on Wednesday -- but fortunately he hadn't needed them.

So just at dusk, I picked up Mrs Vorpal from the studio where she teaches art, and we headed off.
It was a gorgeously clear night, just above freezing, with a waxing gibbous moon.

Very light traffic too.

On the way home, we stopped and looked at the moon over the water for a bit.

Perfect

When in tranquility you can contemplate the wonders of nature you are pervaded by a peace and serenity that have no equal.

When I worked as a prospector in the mid '70s I spent the entire summer living in a tent in the middle of the wilderness.
Toward the end of the summer, the sun set early enough that the sky would be completely dark.
(at that latitude, this wouldn't happen until late August See: https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/@5936286)
It was so good to be up at 01:00 to see the stars, and just sit and listen

Trying to get some tartar sauce at the stores has always been an exercise in frustration. The people at the store haven't even heard about it, and this remoulade stuff they're selling just isn't going to cut the mustard (pun intended).

So now I made some myself by combining 5 tablespoons of mayonnaise with two teaspoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon each of sweet pickle relish and minced onion.

The result was good, but what was it for?

Well, I got myself some fish filet nuggets to make mini versions of the filet-o-fish burger.

Didn't have enough cheese, so I had to add some shredded one, and I burned the nuggets a bit because I initially had the temperature up to high, but it was still pretty good. Next time, I'll try doing it with less mistakes.

Fishburger with cheese? Oh!

Looks great but the cheese is Banhauser.

Over here, the McDonalds fishburger has a wee slice o' cheese on it.
Not Banhauser, but doesn't really add anything IMO.

Some versions of tartar sauce have a tiny amount of horseradish in it.
Easy to overdo it though...
Also, a very popular local restaurant chain uses dill relish in their tartar sauce.

We were supposed to get a dump or snow over the last couple of evenings, but didn't happen...
<sigh>

This may go down as "the winter that wasn't"

Seriously, though, the Filet-o-Fish always normally comes with a slice of cheese. As it should, because without it, you'd be stuck with nothing but a fish filet and some tartar sauce. People who prefer that would probably also eat their schnitzel bare.

It's not the best item to get at McDonald's in the first place, of course (not that I go there all that often anymore, must have been over a year by now), but I was curious whether those fish nuggets would work as a mini version on slider buns. Turns out they work pretty well, and I liked that homemade tartar sauce too.

So we had a "quick and easy" meal last night.
Frozen fish fillets (breaded) with some broccoli-stuffed chicken breasts.

We do things like that in an air fryer, so almost no oil involved.
The alternative is to use the oven, but the air fryer uses 1500 W for about 10 minutes, whereas the oven used 3000 for about 45.

Somehow i missed that we have now passed 9 hours of daylight again -- Yay!
I don't need the flashlight when I wake up in the morning anymore. Yay!

Gotta tell you something - because I know, you ALL CARE :f_ugly:

My past couple of vegan days were horrible! Tried out some new foods, yesterday I tried out a vegan-ready meal with millet. There were more carrots in there than anything else, I don´t like cooked carrots! The spices were terrible, it was salty as heck, eeeew! THIS was SUPER MEGA EEEEW! I really should look for nice vegan recipes before my next vegan day on Tuesday because the last ones were pretty much EEEEEEEW. :f_ugly: :f_ugly: :f_ugly: :f_ugly:

Well that was weird.
We had a couple of visitors this morning since we'll be hosting a supervised visit (long story)

We sat in our own living room wearing masks

Had some mussgo eggs to deal with, which expired about a week ago.

It wasn't breakfast time, but I figured that some egg & bacon bagels always work.

Salmon Sandwich Lunch
I used the mayo+relish instead of tartar sauce.

Quite acceptable

Everything is better than my last couple of vegan meals

Next time I resort to bread and margarine I guess :f_ugly: :f_ugly: :f_ugly:

Do you need to buy special vegan bread?
Some -- even whole grain -- bread is made without special attention to avoiding animal products.

I have been logging my meals for several weeks now .
I surprised myself by how little "red meat".
I'm not sure if ham is considered red meat.
Salmon is red, but it isn't in the "meat" category

But I've been trying to move toward the following foods:
:diamond:  Unprocessed <<primary goal
:diamond:  Whole. As in whole grain bread and pastas, brown rice
:diamond:  Smaller portions
:diamond:  less dairy
:diamond:  local <<not really possible to get local fresh veg in Canada in the winter. But there are local hothouse-grown cucumbers and tomatoes

We're approaching the time of the year when the deviation between Solar Noon and 12:00 is greatest.
I don't know if it is cause-and-effect, or just a coincidence, but the we're also approaching perihelion ...

I go to bed earlier than the other denizens of Vorpal Manor, and to help cope with general household noise, I use my phone to play "white noise" (there are other colours).
I've been using the android app from https://mynoise.net/
There is a lot of variety, and you can customize the noises.
My current favourite is "Unreal ocean" which is a fake noise that simulates ocean waves gently lapping on the shore.
