Prim did a really good job picking up Koi-Koi, and even some Japanese Mahjong, though we couldn't play that one live during our visit, of course, since we would need more players. Especially Japanese Mahjong has a pretty steep barrier for entry with its complicated rule set. Koi-Koi is intimidating at first because of the unusual cards, but not all that complicated to understand once you got the basic concepts.

We played both of those games together on Steam, which is how she learned those games. Again, I'm quite impressed, not everyone manages to grasp those games, but she's a quick learner. :f_thumbsup:

The Pompeii videos we watched can be found here, it's the first in a series of six. I visited Pompeii and the surrounding area in 2005 with my Latin class at school, and when I showed Prim some photos and videos of it, she was fascinated too, so we decided to watch a full virtual tour. :f_grin:

The videos I linked above are quite good already and include some explanations for the various buildings etc, but another interesting one is this 360° video, which may make you feel as if you're actually there:

Looking forward to the grindette's next visit, time always seems to fly by when we're having that much fun together. :f_love:

Micro Millions special

Even though I´m on summer break and vacation, I´m looking forward to the Micro Millions. There will be a lot of fun! This Friday to Monday I will be away, it´s finally time for family and friends, but on the other days I have time to play some nice events and even try some new games :f_biggrin: I don´t have a plan or a schedule like Harrier posted in his blog, but there will be a lot of fun and even some challenges. What will it be?

Surprise! :f_cool::f_biggrin:

Micro Millions special - FIVE cards and a grindette

So, will Prim pick up more than 4 cards? The answer is YES! Why? Because I need some change, guys. I noticed that I´m not the type of player who can stick to ONE format. I get bored. So, I will take the opportunity to try even more than four cards. :f_biggrin: My brain just needs some change, some different games to keep up motivation and passion. That´s why I started playing also Mahjong and Koi Koi with Harrier (just for fun, not for money) and I have to say that I like both card games A LOT! :f_love: Harrier is still playing "gentlemen" in Koi Koi because otherwise he leaves me totally crushed and as I would like to learn the game, Harrier is a real gentleman. :f_biggrin::f_love:

I will tell you more about my decision on another occasion, let´s see how I do in 5-card draw. Played that game many years before on Stars but then when I returned to the tables after many years of break I focussed on NL Holdem Sit and Goes and MTTs, then on PLO Cash (which I will NOT give up of course, but I need something else besides).

Today, 5:30 p.m (CEST): NL 5 card draw.

How will Prim do? We will find out ..... soon .... :f_biggrin:

Awwwww, I'm blushing. :f_love:

I think you're becoming a worthy adversary in Koi-Koi, though, I don't think you really need those head starts I give you anymore. :f_grin:

But I can certainly help you bring in some fresh new additions to your poker grind. Will we maybe see a mixed games grindette soon? :f_wink:

Best of luck in the Five Card Draw today, in any case! :f_thumbsup: :club:

My first 5-card draw tourney after more than 10 years

So, that was it for me today. The first 1,5 hours went great, I could triple up my stack. About an hour ago, luck completely left me. First, my bluffs were not successful, which made my stack shrink. Then I suffered a massive "suck out" (or what is that called?). Had JJJxx on my hand and raised. Villain in the BB called, draws 3 cards and as his stack is pretty short I call his jam with my trips. Turned out that he had drawn a full house with those 3 cards from AAxxx.

Then I was card-dead and blinded down to ultra shortie. Could save myself twice with two pair (KKJJx and aces up). Then I called a raise with AAxxx and could draw trips AAA. Jammed as shortstack and ran into a flush (draw which got there). :ayfkm:

Had to leave the tournament without ITM, but I think I did more or less okay in 5 card draw.

Social life :f_love:

Social life is more or less back here and I was very happy to be able to finally visit family, friends and relatives. :f_love: So, I spent a wonderful and relaxing weekend with my next of kin. We ate, drank (the wine was good by the way :f_ugly: ) went for nice walks in the forest, played cards, but especially talked and talked and talked. Everybody had a lot to tell and we talked until late in the night. It does so good to have a social life again. Everybody wants to meet up with their next of kin and everybody is happy here to see family and friends again. :f_love:

We´re still careful with hugs, kisses and handshakes though :f_biggrin:

Micro Millions continue - with four cards!

Going to play the PLO8 event today. After 5 card draw went a bit unlucky (according to our 5 card draw experts here ;) ) let´s see if there´s more lucky with four cards? :f_biggrin:

Not so sure ...

This was not a spectacular outcome and not a spectacular performance either. First hour went completely card-dead, could collect only small pots, blinded down to ultra-shortstack, I could make a nice comeback during the second hour, but then I got tired and I think I misplayed a full house, I don´t know, I had QQKKss, the flop went 8-T-8 and I called Villains bet. We jammed on the turn (stack: committed), the river brought another 8 which completed my full house but Villain showed AQTTss. Not sure if I played that hand right, I am pretty tired.

In the past week I have lost several stacks hitting the worst full house.
It happens

Play my game!

There won´t be poker today (but tennis!) but tomorrow we will have a special challenge: Harrier and I decided to have a fun challenge during the Micro Millions, which is called PLAY MY GAME! As you can guess: We´re swapping variants! So, I have to play either Badugi or 8-game and he plays PLO. I decided to play 8-game and there will be the 8-game event tomorrow. So, Prim will play 8-game at 5:30 pm (CEST):

Heeeeeee haaaw!

How will Prim do? Will she just play the PLO, PLO8 and Holdem and fold everything in the other variants? Or will she bravely take the challenge?

We will find out .................... tomorrow! :f_thumbsup:

Harrier will play PLO on Thursday I think?

Sure, I'll play. :f_grin: Luckily, Thursday is the only day this week where I have nothing scheduled.

Let's see how I'll do, I'm not a complete stranger to PLO and I have cashed in some tournaments before, but I don't think I'm very good in that format. Wouldn't it be funny, though, if this ends up being the only game in the MicroMillions where I end up cashing this time? :f_biggrin:

Surely you mean FLO8?

Knowing you, you will bravely take the challenge for sure, come what may. :f_grin: Too bad I can't play the 8-Game with you, I got somewhere to go in the evening, but I can rail for a while. :f_drink:

Best of luck, grindette! :club:

I rather like limit Omaha Hi/Lo
People are much more likely to call with worse.

The other side of that coin, though, is that nobody will ever fold better

Prim bravely took the challenge...

....and even made it ITM :mdr: Well, FL Holdem, FLO8, NL Holdem and PLO were games I more or less could play, but the point was: I did surprisingly well in Razz and Lowball :f_o: 7 card stud seems to be my weak game, but whoah, guys: I almost went crazy, 8 different games, had to pay attention which game we´re playing right now :f_ugly::f_ugly: The most pots I took in FL Holdem, NL Holdem, Razz and Lowball. In FLO8 and PLO I was pretty card dead, missed the flops. But could take some nice pots in the games, mentioned before.

It was fun. But my brain is exploding! Oh dear! :f_ugly::f_ugly: Just seeing cards everywhere :f_ugly::f_ugly: The cards will chase me in my dreams, I´m sure :f_ugly::f_ugly: So, the resumée is: Besides PLO and Holdem I liked Lowball and Razz a lot, especially Razz. Stud hi lo was the worst :mdr::f_ugly:

Anyway, a nice 226th place ITM, mincash, but not bad for a brave little fish who took a fun-challenge, right? :f_biggrin: I´m very positively surprised about the result and outcome. But no, I´m not going to turn into an 8-game player, this format is fun for every now and then, but definitely not for me. Razz and Lowball are worth to consider as additional formats maybe. :f_biggrin:

And how will Harrier do in PLO? We will find out ............. tomorrow.

Very well done!
You're right -- stud is the hardest section.
I knew you were in, but forgot to rail you.

Oh well...

Better do not rail me in 8-game :mdr::f_ugly::f_ugly: unless you wanna see fishy play :f_ugly::f_ugly:

I could do a lot with some logical thinking and thanks to a little "crash course" I had received from Harrier. The rest was just applying a little logic, but of course I don´t have deep knowledge.

Finally! PLO time! Yaaaaaay!

Couldn´t play the PLO events at the weekend, due to family-time. But today, it´s time to play MY game.

And today it´s Harriers turn in the "play my game" challenge. We both will play the 1.10 $ + R PLO event at 5:30 pm (CEST). Excited!

ITM with da pot _biggrin:

Okay, cannot complain about PLO. Made a pretty deep run with MY game. _thumbsup: Didn´t have to take a rebuy, just took the add-on. The first two hours during the rebuy-phase it was more of a survival than anything else _ugly: I somehow took small pots, was card dead, every now and then a pot and arrived as shortstack in the add-on phase. Decided to take an add-on, because I have a big edge and some good cards are enough to bring me ITM. And then they came. Very quickly built my stack, quadrupled it up with some good hands and fought my way to ITM. Could fight there my way more or less, the second hour ITM didn´t go so well then. One Villain hit everything he could and eventually I busted with trips, I ran into a full house. I noticed a couple of mistakes I made, it was not my best PLO, but good enough.

Took 101th place ITM for 18,81 $, which is a very nice result, considering that I didn´t take a single rebuy. :profit:

I´m happy with the result. Note that I haven´t played poker for a longer time, I think I was just a little burnt out before my vacations. Had a very very difficult client for about 4 months, just before my vacations I could finally finish the project with this client from hell! Getting my energy and motivation back, but it´s competition season and "summer break" due to tennis. Looking forward to returning to the cash tables, but due to outdoor sports season it won´t be as often as usual.
