Our aged and decrepit Chev Equinox started misbehaving a few months ago, so we started looking for a replacement.

Years ago, we had a Dodge Caravan, and quite liked it, so the idea was that we would buy a used one, a year or two old since we could afford to pay cash outright.

However, while looking we came across a Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid.
For about double the price of two-year old used, we could get brand-new, and with the way gas prices are going, it could actually mean that operating costs would be much lower.

Time will tell.
It is a wonderful car to drive, too. Once we opened the mental door to considering new cars, we looked at several others, and this one impressed us the most.

This is it sitting in the driveway of Vorpal Manor:
The maroon car in front of it is the one we're replacing.

Do you have any experience with PHEV or BEV vehicles?

Not a lot of experience.
For us, we needed the ability to do an 800km trip several times each year, so having some sort of hybrid was a must.
Some of the more expensive BEVs can do 500km, but then you have to stop and charge.

The problem with hybrids, is that they typically have smaller batteries, so the EV range is small -- 60 km for the Outlander.

We did want the plug-in hybrid though.
Most of our driving will be Electric Only, and if it weren't for the long trips, a BEV would be fine.

I did fairly well early on, then went card-dead and managed not to spew my stack.
This was one of the early winners that set me up.

That ended rather ingloriously when I tried to muscle a player off a pot -- he outdrew me.

All in all I had a hugely lucky day, finishing 14th for $466.90

I held rolled up Aces, Kings 9s and 4s -- the odds of getting dealt three cards all the same are roughly 425:1 against, so I was really lucky there. I lost with the 9s and 4s though.

In other hands I hit several flushes and this one, where I hit a gutshot straight on 7th street, which holds up for the low as well...

Sunday is a very busy day in the poker world. For some reason, I tend to avoid it.

Today for example, I'm off to visit my brother who'll be moving on Thursday. He's wheelchair-bound, so the goal today is to get everything packed that we can live without for the next several days.

The moving company provides lovely big plastic bins so we don't need to worry about boxes.

I'm going to be a wreck by the time I get home tonight...

We got a lot done last night -- all the furniture marked that goes, and much of the other stuff put in bins.

Today I failed to cash in the two separate WCOOP events I entered -- the $22 2-7 Triple Draw and the $22 PL Omaha Hil/Lo

However I did take first place in my nemesis tournament, which is a $1.10 PLO8 that I play every stream.

So it goes...

I finished August up $343.54 in terms of tournaments played on stream.
That total doesn't include cash games or freerolls.

In order for the law of averages to actually come close to being reality, you have to lose a bunch of 'em.

I do notice though, that I often fold too early -- I need better skills at estimating my equity.
Often when I review I find I'm folding with 35 -- 45% equity. That's fine, but if you fold that 80% of the time, you're losing money long term.

Although this tournament didn't go well -- mostly due to card-deadness -- there were a couple of highlights.
(or since this is lowball, possibly lowlights )

In this hand I have both a 2 and a 7 -- but I'm OOP and drawing 3.
I get a superb first draw, and a decent 2nd draw.

I decide to pat the 97-low and bet the last draw when BU draws.

Long day, hard work...
I went up the night before -- 115km drive -- and started to pack the remaining items, and worked for 3 hours.

The next morning, there was only a little left, so we were all ready for the movers by 10:30 -- they were schedule to arrive at 01:00, but arrived at 12:15, and had the truck loaded by 12:45

I so like watching people work who know what they're doing, and how to do it properly.
We had used this moving company before when my Mum moved, so I was expecting this level of efficiency.

While they were loading, my brother took his motorized wheelchair over to the new place so he'd be on site to tell the guys were everything was supposed to go.

They were all done by 14:00

Between then and 19:30 I unpacked all the bins.

Horror of horrors! The internet doesn't work, so I went back yesterday and picked up a wireless router for the residence to install.
I also had to make a trip or two or three back to the old place, (about 1 min drive) to get stuff we missed, and to take back some stuff that had been brought by mistake.

He should be all set up by now.

Today I'm off to https://scotfestbc.com/ for the afternoon with my daughter and her friend, who we consider an add-in daughter.

Well I do -- but this site is run by the British Columbia Lottery Commission, and the money here is just for buying lottery tickets.

So if I win more than 5 bucks in a week, I can buy a ticket with OPM.[1]

We often go to our getaway place that had no internet. It was a love/hate thing... I hated the thought of no internet every time we went, but always appreciated the disconnect by the end of it... Then our co-owners got internet... well barely internet, it reminds me of the good old dial-up days where you never knew if things were going to finish loading before your coffee got cold. It's that unhappy middle ground between have and have not.

One crazy thing happened...
I was in line to get a beer and two ladies came up to the lady ahead of me, and they started a conversation about song lyrics
I have no idea what song.

The lady ahead of me, turned to one of the others who was behind my right shoulder, and from less than a metre away, looking directly at me said, "I want to lie with you tonight".
(I presume that this was one of the lines from the song)

I made sort of a strangled cry, put on my most terrified expression and said, "but I'm married"
They all had a good laugh, and we all introduced ourselves.

I later thought -- "Oh boy, if those were the wrong type, I would be in big trouble"
