The recreational Reg

First week with new resolutions. Kept to them, except for not playing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
But all in all, playing without distractions is really cool. Eventually I even end up with more time for other things with the same amount of play.

In the meantime, I have feedback from Coach @FaLLout86 (from the German PS Forums or RYE ) regarding my stats. I haven't had time to go through everything yet, but I can already see the areas I need to work on. At the same time there was also some positive feedback, so I feel really encouraged.
3bet/Fold strategy so far leads to me playing even nittier than I am anyhow. But this wel be something to work on.
Result-wise we are on the right track.

Another week in the books. I am trying to consequently stick to my schedule and plan. The plan to play only in an undisturbed environment was easy to stick to. I played a little Monday-Wednesday b/c I had some additional time on my hands.

Game improvement plan is currently focussing on

- taking my time when making a decision. This is the hardest one

-widening BTN range which is still way too low

- larger cbet % IP, especially when range betting is warranted. I used to cbet much more, reduced it, but obviously overshot the optimum, so that I am currently not betting enough, and in the wrong spots with wrong sizings

Game is gradually getting better. I am slowly winning and building up the roll. For the year I am in the green for NL5 (zoom and reg combined) so I can move to NL10 as soon as I have the rqquired BR (15-20 buy ins).
I see the benefits of the analysis done by coach and the regular reviews of my own game in making me feel much better in many spots while playing. Of course there are big holes stilll. But as long as I am focussed onm playing only when I have my A game (or in the conditions needed for A Game) this makes a huge difference.
It is astounding though, how brain draining this 100% focus is in game. Usually, after about 2-3 45 minutes block of play with 5 min break in between, I need a longer break. Otherwise I lose it.
It is the red line which is the clear in game indicator on how focussed I play. a monotonous -20 or more BB/100 red line slope tells it all.

P.S. and of course, not to forget: I am the biggest river calling fish vs large donks or raises the world has seen. For one this is because I am a fish, and because I play way too fast, without thinking, especiall in such spots I am triggered by my own hand and my emotions

Not much to report other than red line is getting flatter. Still way off target of at least less than 2/3 of blue line, but I started off at blue/red = 0.62 and curently at 0.86.
River calling leak ist still a huge problem, way too often I call knowing I am beat, and just wanting to confirm. Should start trusting my game more.

Anyhow starte a new BR challange, just get a little more commitment injected in this thing.

If you have a tracker there is a stat called "river call efficiency" that will tell you just how bad you are doing on river calls.
When I added it to my session report I was surprised to find I was not doing as badly as I had supposed.

Hope that's the same for you...

Yeah, that is low, but if I understand the stat correctly, "good" is between 1 and 2
Less than 1 and you're losing, -- more than 2 and you're not value-betting the river enough.

You are right, but it still does not "feel" right. Could be that the result is skewed be me calling and winning (quite big sometimes) in spots where I should be folding. I say that because, many spots I call and lose are the ones where it is soooo obvious that villain must have it. I really should post more hands to get somew feed-back

First week of the new challenge in. It started rough, as always, and ended on a heater to make up.
I really should abstain form playing Zoom on Mondays and Tuesdays. First, I am saturated from the weekend play. Second, only regs are playing. Third, I seem to always be card dead AND play bad poker. Fortunately, the rest of the week went ok and being on vacation I had plenty of time to play. A small heater at the end left me up for the week. Actually I should have kept playing, as we had a couple of whales at the tables, but I was getting tired and losing my focus.

What a shitty week. It all started as never before. It was as if I was seeing through cards. An had the luck to have some whales at the tables who were getting it in really bad all the time. Second half of the week it was all but the opposite. Although I did not feel like I was playing badly, but more like running into the top of opponents ranges all the time. This and some bad luck resulted in:

What can I say? Luckily I managed to complete my Pokerstars challenge, otherwise it would have been another downwards week. Unfortunatel, the next challenge is almost anreachable with the current stake and volume. I wmight have to consider playing somwhere else for a while, like ACR or Tiger.
Anyhow, I am calling the trend downward and not "downswing" because I am not so sure it is variance.
I think it is bad play, playing under bad playing conditions, poor routine overall.
Life is very hectical right now, and I am having trouble getting into a good and healthy study and play routine.
For now, asI have no challenge or bonus to go after, I will reduce volume to avoid playing under bad conditions.
Other than that, I noticed that the moment I start to study anyhting around poker, I feel that I want to play right away and apply what I am learning. At the same time I am not very good in staying focussed.

Don't get too discouraged...

It's hard to focus on playing well and studying when things are hectic off the tables. Take this opportunity of reduced poker time to focus on what's important and come back fresh. You've already learned that eliminating distractions is helpful, clearing your mind and setting time aside to focus on study will turn things around for you.

If you find it hard to study and just want to play, start with just a small study goal - 20 minutes of review for example... then play. Your game will be better for it and that success will reinforce the studying habit.

Last couple of week have ben pretty tough, as the graph below shows. But I am prooud of myself, that I manage stay off tilt and manage downswing and variance properly. I basically reduced tables, switched from Zoom to Reg tables and played less. I made sure I that I play as often as possible my A game.
Some studying has certianly also helped. I am going through the RYE Cash game course, which I had bought before it was on sale. And I must say, that I do not mind having paid the regular price. I is good, easy to follow and to work into the own analysis of played hands.

For the coming weeks I just try to stay the course.
