Definitely agree with you here
15:00 JJ hand - I would bet bigger on the flop and overbet shove the River, when he calls my overbet on the Turn. The card on the River is maybe the perfect card on the deck for us - we beat KT now and it improves their overbet calling range on the Turn. Different option than jam on that card I consider it as a lost value. Not to mention that you mark this opponent as a fish and they will overplay their hand very often in this situation![]()
I agree, it's better to bet big OTF as an exploit. Didn't think about jamming river with this SPR. I should definitely consider this in the future in spots like this!
Thanks again for your comments!
BR Challenge Update
Week: 17 (6 Sep 2021 - 12 Sep 2021)
Hands played: 1038
Limits: NL10
Profit: $14.02
BR: $226.30
Progress: 13.45%
In my recent coaching, we were focussing on finding more spots to apply controlled aggression. I started to implement this, and I think it improved my red line a bit. But unfortunately, I haven't been able to put in a lot of volume the past week. Anyway, check out week 17's graph:
Spoiler

After we exchanged a couple of posts about open raising small -- you were using 2.2 BB I decided I would try it.
First off, you can't do that at NL 2 -- the lowest you can go above min is 2.5, so I used that.
Some first impressions:
You play a lot more pots.
Not as many 3Bets as I thought & most of them from short stacks
I still raised 3x + 1 per limper when raising over limpers -- what do you do in that situation?
Overall it seems to work -- since you get called by so many hands you get a lot of the profit post-flop.
Cheers,
VS
I saw you had a great session with a ton of action on 9th of September. However you didn't got a lot of comments, so let's do that! ![]()
General:
:diamond:It only takes a few seconds to sit out and open a new table, so do that if you sit out normally. Don’t play 280bb deep, if you don’t do that when you are not recording.
:diamond:You have a ton of tags, but I only saw you using gen. rec.
:diamond:I see you tag by right click/label. I suggest to turn on „Left click to assign label” under Settings/Gameplay/Player notes to give tags easier.
:diamond:Also tun off „Always apply label on a new note” feature, if you don’t want to tag people automatically when you write a note

How wide is your RFI range from BU? Isn’t 98o in it?
0:32 left
I would not size my 3bet under 8bb. 3x 3bet size is suggested for 3bb open, under 3bb I use 8bb 3bet size.
3:30 left
Talking about pre ranges again (I know you play based on GTO ranges). Q8o is in the top 40%. Do you open less than 40% from SB?
9:39 right
Easy cold 4bet in that position. You see the stats how much he 3bets from SB, but against an average player (who 3bets 8-17% in this position pair) you have a ton of value.
Here is 12,67% 3bet range (made mine a bit tighter) and you still have 66,53%.

12:45 right
QTo is good enough to open from MP, but Q8o isn’t an open from SB? Too loose IMO, even with the rec on BB.
14:42 right
There is a ton of hand he can call your cbet with, I would cbet bigger against anyone. Also you tagged him as a rec so I cbet at least 4,5bb for value and I don’t care that my range for the cbet size isn’t balanced.
Also I don’t like your turn overbet. Okay, the board got wore wet with the nine, but your hand is still strong and they are overfold against overbets on the micros.
OTR I like your size. My line would be cbet 4,5bb OTF, cbet 12bb (80%) OTT and bet 32bb (82%) OTR. IMO they can call this line wider without the overbet and if he call our river bet the pot would be bigger with 10bb.
18:38 left
I only like your raise here, if your plan is to go broke with it. T high FD with backdoor GS is too strong for raise cbet for bluff and too weak to raise cbet for value.
21:19 right
I like that you attack him when he miss cbet, but 80% is too big for a bluff IMO. What dou you expect him to fold for 5bb, which he doesn’t for 3-4bb? 5bb bet needs 44,64% fold equity, 3bb needs only 32,61%.
23:12 left
Fishes will call cbet with wide range, not only Ax. I mean there are GS, FD, weaker 2nd pairs (TT-66) in his range, so I would not miss a cbet here. Also I don’t like when you just call his 1/6 size minbet OTF and you are giving him cards for that cheap.
26:20 right
The 4way beauty of opening 2,2x from EP 😊 I like your fold against that big size lead
27:35 right
The odds is good, but preflop call is at least questionable IMO. Also I would not call his cbet multiway when I only have 3rd pair and backdoors. He left with only 43,5bb stack, so if you make your trips/2 pairs/straight/baby flush, you can’t make enough money.
29:09 left
When he donks, he reps a 5 or a FD OTT. OTR flush gets there, you now beat 5x hands, let’s make it at least 50bb. If he has a 5 or flush, or maybe a weird played Jx, he will call anyway and if he don’t he will fold for even 2x raise.
Thanks a lot for your comments @LahtiPelican. Give me some time to process all of them.

I think it's awesome that you are trying it out. On NL2, I even open to 2bb from EP. But 2.5bb from all positions (except SB 3bb) is most likely better.
If you want to get more into sizings and preflop ranges and strategies, I recommend getting the Preflop Bible from BTS.

Very good advice, I didn't know those settings existed. Last time I tried to change tables it messed up my video. But you are right, I need to figure out how to do this.
And I only use Gen. Rec so frequently because that is the most reliable and easy to spot read. I use the others, too, but more frequently when I play on regular tables.

~41% 98o is not in it.

Please check out GTO Wizards ranges. Those hands you mention are all on the edge, either slightly within the opening range or slightly outside of it.

Yes, betting bigger on the flop is better. Don't know about the turn overbet, either. Maybe you are right.

Good point. Not sure, though, because the x/r kind of neutralizes my position disadvantage. It will be hard to realize my equity if I just call.

I think it is better to cbet with my weaker value hands like TT,JJ. I am currently working increasing my checking frequency OOP. And then x/f, x/c or x/r. KK is in my x/c range, the size of Villain's float bet doesn't really matter, I consider this similar to a check behind. So I am not sure if it is a mandatory cbet here, I'll think about it.
26:20 right

It doesn't actually happen that often 😄

It was close with that size. I think we can call a smaller bet here.

Hm, 🤔 I guess this is arguable. I am really not sure what the right size is. But I guess betting bigger especially vs Recs is never a huge mistake.

Hi! I am wondering, if you have 200$+ BR why do you still play NL2? Isn't it enough to grind NL5 only? What is your ladder goals? I mean how many B.I. u need to climb up?

Very good question. My BRM strategy is very aggressive: Move up (take a shot) with 20 BIs and move down below 17 BIs.
That being said, I only play on NL10 when I am fully focussed. And this hasn't been the case in the past week. Yesterday, I played an online home game tournament with some friends while we were video chatting. I played some NL5 and NL2 tables in parallel, more or less on autopilot. That's where the hands from this week come from.
BR Challenge Update
Week: 19 (20 Sep 2021 - 26 Sep 2021)
Hands played: 350
Limits: NL10
Profit: -$19.87
BR: $212.60
Progress: 11.92%
I do not have much time to play ATM. Only one session in the past week.
Overall, I am quite happy with the way I played for the last 3 weeks. Red line looks much better than it used to be. There is still a lot to work on, obviously.
Spoiler

Howdy,
seems in your last report you've got more time than in the last 2 weeks, right?
Did you restart playing, how is it going - can you winch up to $300 by now?

Thanks for checking in!
I've taken in unplanned break from poker for personal reasons. I will post updates again once I am able to play more again. I'm definitely planning to pick it up soon.
Hey man!
It's time to get back to poker. ![]()
I've just finished reading your Beat NL2 Challenge AMA blog. Nice work there. ![]()
Please, keep us updated here. I'm really looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks! I am planning to come back for sure. Right now, there is so much going on besides Poker that I can't fit it in. I am sure things will sort out, and I will be back soon.

I'm curious what poker podcasts do you listen to? Which would you recommend?
This was asked in my old thread. Since I don't really want to maintain two threads at the same time, I will answer here.
These are my favorites in no particular order:
- Two Lives by Olivier Busquet (Some incredible and inspiring poker stories, very interesting conversations)
- The Grid by Jennifer Shahade (A little more on the entertainment side of things, I love Jennifer, very insightful conversations and she just has a great attitude)
- The Runchuks Podcast (Runchuks is awesome, I love his curiosity, interesting guests)
- Chasing Poker Greatness by Brad Wilson (Great empathetic host, interesting guests, check out the ones with Nick Howard (Poker Detox) especially)
- Carrot Corner Podcast by Pete Clarke (Awesome content, especially a lot about mindset, but there is also a lot of strategy content, e.g. the hands from the corner ones)
- Embrace the Grind by Johnnie Vibes (Johnnie Vibes is a really cool guy, very positive attitude)
- The Doug Polk Podcast (Well, Doug Polk, good stuff, you might want to skip the episodes on crypto, though, unless you are into that)
- Poker Life by Joey Ingram (A lot of episodes here, you probably want to cherry pick the better ones)
- Raise Your Edge Podcast by bencb (Interesting guest and topics, a lot of mindset stuff)
- Zenith Poker Podacast (Focusses on game theory and GTO)
Thanks for the list. I can find new inspiration.
Just recently, I've come across the Runchuks podcast by myself and I can recommend it, too.
As well as my favorite Raise Edge Podcast always has a ton of value.
