Sloppy!

Oh dear, my patience was good but not my concentration today. Played PLO5 on Stars and scr*wed up. Well, at least two hands I scr*wed up, the rest went pretty card-dead, no decent flops/boards for me. Draws didn´t get there and the rest was just nothing: fold. Anyways, I didn´t play well today and it shows! Sloppy play is immediately punished in CG: -8,50 €, so about 1,5 stacks down. Bummer! :rage: Better play next time.

Week 9 recap

There was not a great amount of poker, but played about 3x this week, mainly CG. I´m not really good at playing marginal hands, that takes more theory and experience for me. Attended PLO Primetime on Thursday, yesterday, I was too tired to play and in the afternoon, I met a friend. It was cold outside and after I came home, I had to take a nice warm bath to warm up and then it was over! I was really so relaxed and tired that I was not able to play poker. On Friday, I met Harrier live and as he wrote in our blog we had a drinking-and-gaming-session, played the good old Super Mario Land. I think the last time I had played that game was something like 30+x years ago, I remembered some things but of course I was totally out of practice. Well, and the booze didn´t really help. :f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly:

For lunch, we had some nice take out menu, while Harrier had a Schnitzel with mushrooms and I chose a tuna salad. Tried a little piece of Harriers Schnitzel and I have to admit, that it was really delicious! :f_love:

And this was my salad:

Already some booze before the actual gaming and drinking challenge

Interestingly, I had no hangover yesterday, but while I was on the train back home, I was a bit nauseous. :f_ugly::sifflote: Fortunately, the nausea went away on the way home so I did not p*ke in the train. :sifflote:

Canning day!

Noticed that we have some really urgent Mussgoes. Before I hit the tables, I´m going to can all the food which is Mussgo. I hate wasting food! That´s why I use to either freeze down or can the Mussgoes. We have plums and apples which must go, so I made a nice jam. Further, we have pumpkin and pastinake which must go, thought about making the soup but then decided to can pieces of pumpkin and pastinake in broth, so that I can add them anytime to any food I would like to prepare with pumpkin and/or pastinake.

Looking forward to asparagus season already. Last year, didn´t have the canning machine yet, this year, I´m going to prepare A LOT of asparagus soup or other meals with asparagus and can them! Asparagus season is very short here: April to June only. So, there´s nothing but canning! :f_love:

And Vorpal learns a new word!
(Vorpal loves new words!)
Here we call them parsnips — and I love them, thus becoming the only one in the family that does.
They are #2 on my list of foods to eat when Mrs Vorpal is away.

More good news (non poker-related)!

I can run again! As my regular readers know, I had had a lot of problems with both achilles tendons! Achillodynia on both sides! COVID restrictions and less tennis gave me time to really heal completely. On Monday, the weather was beautiful (cold, though). A couple of months ago, I already considered to try running again. Haven´t done it for several years due to achillodynia. On Monday, it was time to re-try. And it worked! I ran 5 km without problems, slowly and carefully though, but I can go for a nice run again, no pain, no limping. I´m happy to announce, that I´m finally able to re-start running!

Unfortunately, Homer is not able to run again, due to arthrosis, but I don´t mind going alone for a nice run.

Too bad that I got tired ...

Had another good CG session on Stars and Party, but after a bit more than one hour I got tired. This week was pretty stressful, but the stress turned out to be not so bad, anyway, it was exhausting. Went running yesterday and this went also well. No signs of achillodynia. :f_love:

Had some hard work to do today and the stress from this week were probably the reasons why I got tired so quickly. Left the tables with a nice winning and now it´s MTT-weekend!! _smile: Don´t know if I´m going to play some MTTs in the evening, but tomorrow, I´m planing to play some. _smile:

..and here´s why:

Flu! Never had Covid but already the 3rd flu I catch this season. It´s not so bad, but of course I feel tired, weak and have a bit joint pain. Unfortunately, there will be only a mini-MTT-session, but better than nothing, right? _biggrin:

The mysterious soup! :f_o:

As I´m infected with something (but not Covid, tested negative) and don´t have big appetite, I decided to have some soup for dinner. The best meal when you´re sick! I am a big soup fan even when I´m not sick. _biggrin:_ugly: That´s why I have a lot of canned homemade soup or even some frozen down. As it´s time to use up some frozen down soup, I chose one from the freezer. I use to cook soups out of Mussgo-veggies, so any veggie which is Mussgo, will be thown into the Multicooker for a nice veggie soup and either canned or frozen down. We very rarely throw away food and if, then only tiny little portions.

So, my infection is a good reason to use up veggie soup, this one had an ivory, almost white color and tasted good, but .............. I have no idea what I put in there. :f_ugly::f_biggrin: I ate spoon after spoon, desperately trying to find out, what on earth I put in that soup. I could identify cauliflower and the rest remains unknown. :f_ugly:

The idea came up that I should not label every single Mussgo-soup as "veggie-soup" but maybe also write, which (Mussgo-)veggies I put in there.

Mini MTT "session"

As already announced, could only play a tiny mini MTT-session. Decided to play the 2.20 $ PLO8 250 $ Gtd. on Stars, which is part of the Troll Challenge with Harrier as well as of the BR challenge (cause it´s PLO8).

Even though I felt pretty crappy due to flu, I managed to get ITM with a mini-winning. Well, mini MTT session with mini winning. That´s perfectly fine.

Week 10 recap

So, what happened during week 10 of my BR challenge? Well, there was definitely more CG than MTT :f_biggrin: I got a bit sick on Friday, so the sports and the poker I had planned for the weekend were cancelled. Bummer! Yesterday, I played a PLO8 tourney and today, I´m going to play HORSE. It´s our weekly HORSE race Troll challenge, and as there´s PLO8 in it, it also counts for the BR. :f_biggrin::f_ugly:

CG went better and I even had a Royal Flush! _love:_thumbsup:_smile: It got full payment (Villains whole stack), because Villain got the nut full and jammed into my Royal. That was a big cooler for Villain! He went on tilt afterwards but couldn´t get another stack from him because had no decent hand. On Thursday, I had a bunch of other stuff to do, so I skipped poker, but anyway, played 3times this week, which is perfectly fine. Better less sessions but good ones with A-game and full concentration. Should not put myself that much under pressure.

A mascot for every hobby!

Baby Peach was pretty busy this week. Her new siblings arrived which complete my collection. _love:_cool:

It is very well known that Baby Peach is my poker-mascot and my avatar on Stars and Party. But what about the other ones? Well, Baby Rosalina (left) will be Baby Peach´s mental coach, Baby Mario and Baby Daisy don´t play poker but are my sports mascots: Daisy for tennis, Mario for endurance sports. _biggrin: I´m going to make Rosalina also my gardening-mascot, as she´s a magical princess (and maybe improves my gardening skills?).

I think everybody knows some games with the character "Mario" and the princesses (Peach and Daisy) he must save. Those are Mario and the princesses as babies, the baby-characters show up in "Yoshis Island" and "Mario Kart". Princess Rosalina is a pretty new character, haven´t played any game with her involved but she´s a magical cosmic princess who helps Mario every now and then.

Maybe Baby Rosalina helps Baby Peach to become a better baby carriage driver? _ugly:_ugly:_ugly:_ugly:_ugly:

This is going to be an MTT-week!

Didn´t play much CG this week, but finally could hit the MTT tables today on Party. Played the 2.20 $ PLO Bounty Hunter, 2.20 $ PLO8 deepstack, 2.20 $ The Forge, 1.10 $ PLO8 deepstack and a little 0,55 $ PLO Bounty Hunter (there were no other tourneys at 8 p.m.).

Could make it to the FT of the 0,55 $ PLO Bounty Hunter and placed 7th. Came ITM in the 2.20 $ PLO8 deepstack, missed the FT unfortunately, 10th place. Missed also the FT in the 2.20 $ PLO Bounty Hunter and placed 13th.

Had a very funny bust from The Forge: A♣ A♥ 5♣ 7♦ vs A♦ J♦ 9♦ x. Acies versus acies :f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly: Villain flopped his lucky lucky flush :f_ugly::f_ugly: :mdr::mdr::wtf:

Busted from the 1.10 $ PLO8 deepstack with trips and nutflushdraw versus NOT a full house but vs runner runner str8 :wtf:

Not much profit, but at least some profit today.

Suck it up, buttercup!

Not a great session tonight, guys. :f_frown: I had planned to take a shot at the 5.50 $ PLO Deepstack but the tournament was cancelled.:rage: Okay, then, decided to play CG instead: played plo5 on Party. Played two hours and came out with one stack down. Could take a couple of pots but lost a stack with this hand:

The upper hand was mine. Had top set and nutflush-draw and full house draw vs str8. Well, nothing came. The rest went just somehow picking up small pots and being card-dead. After the 2 hours were up, I left the tables (don´t play longer than 2 hours, cause get tired and do not play my A-game).

Then it was time for MTTs! Started with the 2.20 $ PLO Bounty Hunter and the 2.20 $ PLO8 Deepstack. In the PLO8 Deepstack I suffered a cooler pretty early on. I say cooler because I held 2nd nut full house with blocker to the nutfull. Lost 2/3 of my stack, desperately and card-dead trying to survive but at the end, I just got nothing and busted with my emergency all-in. Just didn´t hit anything. Same went for the 2.20 $ PLO Bounty Hunter. Emergency-all-in with J99x from BTN and ran into TTxx. Okay, then, decided to play The Forge for 2.20 $ (PLO-PKO). Busted early on with KKAJss (ace suited), so took a second bullet. Played also the 1.10 $ PLO8 Deepstack, where I was just totally card-dead.

Could then make it ITM in The Forge and get some nice bounties but that was it.

And of course it was time for the Saturday Troll Challenge, Harrier and I played the 2.20 $ PLO8 250 $ Gtd. turbo on Stars, where I also busted pretty early with a lucky lucky river for Villain, was 80 % ahead on the turn.

Well, as Kyyberi said in the PLO Primetime coaching: "You gotta suck it up", well then: Suck it up, buttercup! :f_biggrin::f_ugly:

But let´s end this BR-challenge week with something positive ...

I could keep up my mental game. After long periods of being card-dead, I have the mental game leak to think "Hey, now you gotta play something!". I successfully manged to resist that urge, because I experienced that whenever I do this, it makes everything worse! After long time not flops hit I used to think "but now I gotta hit at least something". No! Poo poo! Kept focus on the ranges, and even though playing some marginal hands was tempting, I did not do it! Because I have learned: Patience is (almost) everything in PLO (and poker in general)! I knew, if I keep playing patiently, I will minimize my losses.

The same went for MTTs. I use to become desperate when I´m shortie after long card-dead phases and made a lot of wrong desperate-jams. This time I didn´t. I didn´t desperately try to get back my stack! Instead focussed on doing the right things (according to my knowledge).

This was something I am happy with today: with my mental game.

That the thing you have the most control over in poker, so great job managing that. :f_thumbsup:

The rest will follow, just give it some time.

Week 11 recap

Well, this week it´s just more a weekend 11 :f_ugly: Played this week only on Friday and yesterday, due to high work load and lack of energy. Nevertheless, I enjoyed playing poker and I´m quite happy with how I played, except for a couple of stupid mistakes. As mentioned, my mental game improved and I enjoyed PLO, even though the results were not so great. But whenever I play, I try to focus on enjoying the game and doing the right things. It´s not always easy, but I should never forget, that poker is just a hobby for me. Yes, I have ambitions and I regret that I spent half of my BR last September, but now it´s about climbing up the limits, (re-)building my BR and last but not least fun!. _smile:

Omaha is a challenging, complex and highly interesting variant and I´m happy that I went from Holdem SnG-player to a PLO-CG and -MTT player. Even though PLO is a huge swingy roller coaster, I´m aware of that. You can have a great and wonderful hand on the flop but the river can change your hand into a bluff catcher or even a junk hand. _ugly: This is why I stick to my tight BRM which is about 90-100 CG stacks or 100-200 buy-ins. Variance is huge! Especially in PLO hi, which is my main game.

My regular follower can already see that very clearly. Week 1: 10 Euro up, Week 2: 20 Euro down, Week 3: 25 Euro up .. whatsoever. My results look like a big roller coaster ride with loopings. These are only my short term results because on some weeks, I just cannot play much.
