A987ds 3bet against lose shortstack

Probably close preflop. On flop I would check as we have empty side pot and we still have to beat UTG anyway. Plus often because of empty side pot BB is going to play straight forward so even with check we can often realize our equity.

interesting - i was thinking to barrel here to get some other hands to fold that actually have me "beat" at that moment (TT/JJ/QQ)

Yeah but EP short stack will have those hands fair amount of time as well which combined with likely lack of preflop fe might make 3bet too wide.

ah i meant on the flop betting against the coldcaller - sorry for not pointing that out.

*edit pop on these stakes in my experience will put me on holding AA here and will let go of TT/JJ/QQ on a board like this against such a sizing unless they binged the 5.

I don't like the raise. You are not ahead of UTG range, so even if your iso raise works you will be getting your money in from behind. Not something we want to do in the long run. If he opens over 50% of hands, then your hand becomes marginal favorite (52% versus RFI50).

If someone cold calls, you all have around 33% equity. So no matter how the hand plays out, you are not equity favorite preflop ever. By raising you lower SPR, which takes away the power of position. Which is the only thing in the hand that makes the situation profitable in the long run.

Hand looks nice and has good playability on the flop. But it's not strong in preflop equity. Definitely +EV if you call and see the flop. But to get money in you want to be the favorite, and therefore you should raise versus those shorties with hands that have good preflop equity vs their opening range.

ye, glad i posted this. on the BU i would've likely went with a call, on CO i don't know, also considering your reply, if a fold vs shorty may not even be better?
What do you think about a loser guy opening 100bb deep utg? call / 3bet / fold? calling on CO for me always comes with quite mixed feelings, on BU just by guranteed position this hand plays itself way easier imo.
