For once I'm in agreement.
I don't like Oreos at all β€” and surprisingly never did. The filling is too sweet, and the cookies part has a unappealing texture.
Given the ingredients, I would eat the ice cream and let the grandkids eat the cookies

I hadn't bought Oreos for years either before that. I think the last time I ate some may have been when a little package was included with an ebay order as a gift, and that was a long time ago too. But I never found them overly sweet, to be honest.

When I stumbled across this milkshake recipe, however, I had to try it. I remember having a similar milkshake at Burger King once during my late school days, and also liked that one very much.

I think I'll try the "blondie" version soon.

Okay, here's the "blondie":

I didn't bother with the cookie crumbs topping this time.

It was pretty good, but more like a regular milkshake. I definitely prefer yesterday's version. Not much point in making an Oreo milkshake if it doesn't even taste like Oreos.

Oh, and there's the MicroMillions too. I plan to play two 8-Games and one 2-7 Triple Draw. First would be the 8-Game this Sunday. I tend not to do very well in these events, but maybe this time will be different.

Long Night

...which is usually a good sign. I almost completely forgot about the MicroMillions 8-Game, instead playing a standard $7.50 tourney which resulted in a disappointing brick.

I'm glad I remembered, because I not only got a pretty good run in there, but so did Vorpal and a bunch of other players who used to hang out with me on his stream. The end result was a 42nd place finish out of 1,537 players (including re-entries) for $24.47. The only other MicroMillions events I plan to play are one more 8-Game and a 2-7 Triple Draw event next weekend, so unless I'm rebuying willy-nilly in them, which I don't intend to do, I should be freerolling the series already.

Vorpal did even better, and ended up finishing 25th for $35.77 - very well done! :f_thumbsup: It was a pretty fun rail too.

The chip graph for both of us has already been posted on Vorpal's blog, here it is again:

As you can see, I even had the chip lead for a while. I ended up nitting up a little afterwards, though, and also got pretty card dead.

My results in 8-Game have been lacking recently, despite a decent cash in the $1.10 MTT on Saturday, so the deep run is a nice confidence booster.

Badugi continues to go really well, with two back to back 3rd places this weekend. With all of this combined, we are now past the $2.9K mark in the bankroll for the first time, just $100 short of our goal of $3K. I'm still hoping to get there by the end of summer.

Back to the grind of plain old physical labor tomorrow. I'll have late shifts, so I will late reg those Badugi MTTs once I get home. Otherwise, there won't be much poker until the weekend - unless it turns out that I'm needed for my next football game.

Yeah that was quite the run.
I'm in today's HORSE as well.
I have so much to do around here I'm going to have to sit out some I might otherwise have played.

Oh well...

Looks like you had a decent run, but short of ITM.

I think I'll still have a Deep Horse cocktail in honor of your memorable MicroMillions HORSE run in 2019. :f_grin:

Road to the Midstakes

While I like to keep my feet on the ground, and I'm aware that my skills still leave a lot to be desired, it can also be good to reach for the stars sometimes. Both too high and too low expectations tend to be detrimental.

My goal is still to eventually make it to higher stakes 8-Game tournaments, up to that $27 tourney, which would technically already be considered midstakes (Pokerstars defines midstakes tournaments as anything from $20 to $99 in their lobby). It's not that I think I'm all that good at 8-Game, it's just that unlike most of the other mixed games, 8-Game actually has midstakes.

In order to get there, I need both a bankroll that can take a few hits (hence my $3K goal) and the skills needed to hold my own in these games. I'm working on the bankroll right now. As for the skills, I need both studying and practice to get there, the latter of which I can already gain in some lower stakes games.

It won't happen overnight, so I need to be patient, and avoid being too harsh on myself when I'm still falling short (I also shouldn't get complacent, of course, but the other way is usually more of a problem for me).

My key takeaways from that MicroMillions run and my other last few tournaments are:

- 2-7 Triple Draw: It's easy to get carried away in the later rounds, when the limits are quite high. Stick to good one card draws and some premium two card draws in certain situations and commit to these hands.

- FL Hold'em: Just hoping to hit something will only get you so far. You need to show aggression when you have a good reason to think that you're ahead. It's often better to bet/fold early than to keep calling and guessing.

- Stud Hi: This appears to be my weakest game in the line-up. I should stick to the absolute basics. Tight is right.

- Stud Hi-Lo: Low hands with hi potential, however slim, are the absolute key to success in there. Seek out draws to these hands, and bet and raise like there's no tomorrow if you complete a good low with them, especially when your opponent clearly is on a hi only hand. They will often have trouble letting go of their shot at half the pot, which can make these situations quite profitable.
I should probably read a bit more about this in Sklansky's Stud8 part in the Super System, to get a better idea of starting hands selection.

I'll try to find more takeaways like these in my next 8-Game tournaments. Maybe we will indeed make some progress on the Road to the Midstakes, maybe we won't and the ambition will fade away, but we can't succeed unless we try. I need to be patient, though, even if I keep struggling at much lower stakes. Don't be afraid to stumble - it's a rocky road, and it might be a long one.

Good luck in today's 8-Game
I have Grandson coming today to help with several tasks β€” poker not being one of them

For the most part, your strategies are sound.
Be sure to add ICM pressure to those ideas when the stacks are in your favour

ICM is definitely part of my strategies in the NL Hold'em part - mostly because that's pretty much all I know about NL Hold'em.

:mdr:🀣
It also works well in 2-7 due to the extreme cost of each bet.
Somewhat less in PLO8, and less again in Limit Hold'em

Not much we can do if that's how it goes...

The entire week has been almost rock bottom when it comes to results. The only thing that was keeping it from being a complete brick was a $1 bounty in Badugi on Monday.

Road to the Midstakes

8-Game is telling the same story as Badugi this week. Some promising starts, but no results to show. Here is tonight's chip graph, and other games often followed a similar pattern:

Very good stack near the end of late reg, then free falling. What caused the decline? Mostly bad luck, really. First, several bad runouts in Razz, and then the complete troll treatment in NL Hold'em: Pushing a better ace against a weaker ace preflop and losing, monster draws on the flop not materializing, and then AK running against a smaller pocket pair preflop and losing the flip. It's how it goes, NL Hold'em is pretty much sadness in card game form and should not be played by anybody.

Overall, there is at least some hope, and of course the $1.10 games I'm playing have a larger field than most of the other mixed games tournaments, including many of the more expensive 8-Game MTTs. Dry spells can be expected, even if you're not doing too much wrong.

As for some takeaways, I really need to figure out a way to handle Stud Hi better, especially in the later rounds. Equities run so closely together, sometimes it seems that neither the passive nor the aggressive route is a good choice...

In FL Hold'em, I think the key really is to be more tight and more aggressive. If a hand is good enough to play, it should be good enough to raise - the simple old fashioned stuff. Even if you don't hit, it may be the only way to take down the pot later on if neither of you hits:

PokerStars, $0.98 + $0.12 - Hold'em Limit (8-Game) - 200/400 - 5 players
Hand delivered by CardsChat

UTG: 6,900 (17 bb)
CO: 2,950 (7 bb)
BU: 11,926 (30 bb)
SB (Hero): 15,590 (39 bb)
BB: 1,800 (5 bb)

Pre-Flop: (600) Hero is SB with Aβ™  5β™
UTG calls 400, 2 players fold, Hero raises to 800, 1 fold, UTG calls 400

Flop: (2,000) Q♦ Jβ™  9♣ (2 players)
Hero bets 400, UTG calls 400

Turn: (2,800) Qβ™₯ (2 players)
Hero bets 800, UTG folds

Total pot: 2,800
SB (Hero) wins 2,800

I could use a nice weekend. I hope it allows me to catch up on some stuff.

Finally a decent cash in the $1.10 8-Game, even though it's only $3.45 for a 15th place finish. Badugi lost to someone drawing three and hitting a great hand right away... again, not much you can do. I hope it will go a little better on the weekend.

As for the Road to the Midstakes, I figured that no matter how slim your edges are in Stud Hi, you simply need to take charge in when your hand is likely to be the best, the fact that it's easier than usual for your opponents to catch up doesn't change this simple piece of poker 101. It's still frustrating when your opponent catches a visible pair and it's suddenly all out the window, especially if it is higher than your own pair, but those annoyances happen in every form of poker, really.

This and FL Hold'em still seem to be the formats that keep me guessing the most. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of good material on them out there that I know of, let alone for tournament play. It's still where I should probably put my focus.

TGIF... I could really use a nice weekend now, and indeed, I do have a proper one. My football team mates, meanwhile, have to travel all the way down to the Austrian border to play the Kirchdorf Wildcats.

I was asked about my participation, but declined to join after I found out that we were six players on my position. I may have a strong sense of duty, but I'm not willing to travel all day long after a tough work week just to sit on the bench for a few hours. I've already done that twice this season, no need to do it again for a game that will literally take up all day.

Of course, I wish my team mates the best of luck. :f_thumbsup: I guess I should make another prediction... well, that's tough, considering that I didn't even participate in any practice sessions this week due to work. Sorry, but I have a feeling the Wildcats will get a close victory, 24-21 or so. Prove me wrong, boys! :f_grin:

Oh dear... :f_o: Dragons lost pretty badly after all. The post about it on Facebook even mentions a "strongly decimated squad"... still, I'm pretty sure I wasn't any of the deciding factors. Even if I had played, I hardly would have prevented any of this, I'm pretty sure.

Better luck in the MicroMillions, I guess. Just a couple more minutes...

Best of luck β€” I notice it is a PKO β€” this will be interesting in an 8-Game tournament

Just like the daily Octopus/Mini Octopus tournaments.

I did all right in the first rotation, but now took a few hits. Among other things, I ran a good flush in Stud Hi into a full house. But I think I'll be a bit more liberal with the rebuys tonight, if need be.

Apart from the aforementioned flush, Stud Hi and FL Hold'em were so far among my better earners, even though I consider them to be my weakest games.

Goodness, what a disaster at the tables... :f_mad: Down two bullets in the MicroMillions 8-Game, one in Badugi. Bad cards for most of the night in both games eventually led to bad play too. Terrible.

This is turning out to be a very expensive week, after otherwise very good results in June and July. We'll get one more chance to turn it around tomorrow. I plan to play the MicroMillions 2-7 Triple Draw, also some other tournaments, probably a $7.50 8-Game. This better work out this time, we finally need to see some winnings again...

Yeah β€” similar.
Down to my last few chips I was in BB w/ 72 β€” drew a 3 and (4 or 5) in first draw and an 8 on second for an 87.
SB drew 3 then stood pat OK this should be OK I think.
Nope β€” drew 3 and hit a better 8 in one go.
