Prim and you are like two peas in a pod in that regard. :f_grin: I appreciate fresh food too, but I still can't find the time for any gardening projects.

Thank you! :f_drink: More like this to come later on, hopefully.

I actually saw your exit hand in the same tournament. I don't remember it exactly, but I think it was a failed bluff-catch or something?

Two pair met a pat flush.

Some people in those tournaments are capable of a good snow - I often think that I should throw in a couple myself.

Many players are definitely capable of making aggressive moves with all kinds of hands, at least, in case you went all-in predraw already (I think you did? Not sure).

I plan to play the Badugi and skip the Razz. We should see some regular Badugi tonight too, I heard Prim also has some target tournaments to play tonight on Party.

Well, Harrier: Here´s your challenge of the week!

Augustus won´t have any soup, but YOU WILL, Harrier! :f_biggrin: You will prepare/cook and eat your soup (hot or cold)!

We are a bit late, but I finally got to make the soup that I was supposed to prepare last week. :f_grin:

It is sometimes known as "Beijing soup", and I guess it can be considered a kind of goulash soup that is an absolute mainstay in Chinese restaurants over here. I don't know how it is in other parts of the world, and I don't even know if it is an authentic Chinese dish in the first place. I don't think I have ever been to a Chinese restaurant that doesn't serve a version of this soup, though. It is common to get to choose between this or egg rolls as your first course if you are ordering from the menu, and if you go to one of those increasingly popular all-you-can-eat buffets, they usually have a big pot of this soup on the side too.

I even learned how to say soup in Chinese a while ago. It's called "tāng", and it is written like this:

Can you recreate this soup at home, though? I have been wondering about this just the other day, so when Primrose gave me this challenge, I figured it was a perfect opportunity to try it. I mostly followed this recipe. (link is in German)

I was supposed to use shiitake mushrooms... alas, I couldn't find any, and that was the main reason why I couldn't do this last week already. Regular mushrooms to the rescue, they were even on sale. And I am pleased to announce that the carrots and spring onions are from our own garden. :f_love:

For the chicken broth, which forms the base for this soup... I have to admit, I used some powder from Maggi. :f_ugly: It's the easiest way.

When it is hot, we add the carrots and mushrooms, also about 50g of chicken, I used a frozen version, which works best for such a small amount. I later added some bamboo shoots (from a jar) as well, and some cut up ginger (also frozen).

After letting it cook for a while, I added some sugar (erythritol, actually), salt, pepper, soy sauce, rice vinegar, tomato paste and chili paste. After five minutes or so, I added some starch, to thicken the soup a little.

Then I removed the soup from the heat, and added a beaten egg.

Let it cook for a few minutes more, and we are ready to serve. This is where the spring onions come in too, we just sprinkle them on top at the end.

The soup came out great, just as I know it from the restaurants. If I walked into one and they served me this in their regular porcelain dinnerware, I don't think I would have noticed any difference. It had a pleasant degree of spiciness too, and just like the one from the restaurants, it made me blow my nose very often...

The soup also made me sweat quite a bit in this weather - maybe it's better for the colder seasons. :f_grin:

BIG QUARTER special: Unstoppable Bowser jr. won us a bankroll!

As mentioned earlier, the sassy little prince of the Koopas had won an 11 $-tournament ticket!!! And yesterday, it was time to play! We played the Big Quarter Phase 1 and besides another satty for the Big Quarter. Bowser jr. was unstoppable! He not only won a 1,65 $ satty ticket but also got us our first little bankroll!!! We were delighted to find out, that the BIG QUARTER is a PKO-tournament! We love PKOs! We played the Phase 1 of the Big Quarter and during the first hour I almost had lost hope for anything...bounty...qualification for the final..whatever... We were just totally card-dead! We could steal here and there, get a little pot here and there, but AK, AQ, AJ had totally let us down - no flop was hit, tons of junk hands and pairs didn´t make sets. Well, what can we do? Wait patiently! That´s what we did! While the first hour was pure survival, the second hour brought more action - and our first little bankroll:

When Villain 1 jammed his short stack all in, we did not hesitate - and jammed with the 99! Another Villain 2 got it in too and we ended up with this lovely set and two Villains KOed with a nice bounty of about 8 $!!! This is now our bankroll!

Then, another longer card-dead phase hit us and we decided to play stop n go with this! What a lucky turn and river! Courage (or stupid play?) was rewarded with a runner-runner-str8. :f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly:

And then came the next card-dead phase, we could steal successfully here and there but nothing special happened. Then, we lost half of our stack to a coinflip with AK < JJ. Standard. As desperate shortie, we finally found AA and could double up. Well card-dead again and just on the bubble, as shortie, we could not wait any longer. A standard Blind on Blind push gave us this lucky lucky miracle river:

This meant: double and a qualification for the Big Quarter Final!! Phase 2 will be on August 5th, at 9:30 p.m (CET).

BR before: 0 €
BR now: 7,94 €

Great job in those tournaments, Prim, and congrats on the new starting bankroll, earned for free! :f_thumbsup:

We are looking for some more MicroMillions glory later today, but before that, I suppose my two sports mascots have earned a little break, now that the Trollympics are on hold for a few weeks, along with everything else.

I just picked up these coconut mugs from a private seller who lived nearby. They are actually made of real coconuts. Not sure if they need any special care, especially if you use acidic drinks. I guess I will find out.

They seem to hold quite a bit, up to 600 ml, I have been told? That's a little bigger than I would have preferred, but I should still be able to serve some longdrinks in them. Let's see what we can do this summer.

And I think Tails is drunk. :f_ugly: He should have enjoyed Malibu responsibly.

Oh yes! Tails looks pretty drunk :f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly: But Sonic seems to crave for more. :f_wink::f_biggrin:

Small win in the MicroMillions Badugi event. I got a decent share of good hands early on, then I had a few card dead stretches.

In general, however, I believe I am way too nitty in Badugi recently, and probably in tournament poker in general - not that I played a lot of other games, or poker at all, for that matter. I need to take good calculated risks earlier on. Waiting for unbeatable hands only works when all stars align, and even then, it likely won't result in a deep run. In the majority of cases, the only security you get from avoiding those risk is the security of a bad finish.

It is something to keep in mind when I get back to the regular Badugi grind. The MicroMillions may or may not be done for me now, the only events I'm still considering are the Stud8 on Friday and the 6-Card Omaha on Saturday.

Right, let's prepare a simple, classic meal that kids like. Can you possibly go wrong with some fish sticks? I think not.

Yeah, yeah, I'll get to it. Let's put the fish sticks in a pan...

...and put some fries in the air fryer.

Normally, I like to add baked beans, or at least some mayonnaise, or better yet, tartar sauce. This meal is supposed to be "picky eater" friendly, though, so we will stick to what works with as many kids as possible. I did, however, season the fries a little.

I think Lemmy will be happy. :f_grin:

It's just about time we presented some mixed drinks for the season, don't you think? And now that I got the new coconut mugs, I figured that I should try them out too - especially with Primrose visiting.

Something nice and tropical to fit with the theme, ideally something that involves Malibu coconut rum. I thought of a so-called Bahamas Rum Punch.

Let's start by filling that mug with ice...

Now we add the booze. Half an ounce (around 15 ml) each of Campari and Malibu, then a full ounce (around 30 ml) of regular light rum, I used Bacardi. Then we will fill it up with equal parts orange juice and pineapple juice, I think I used 150 ml each for this mug.

Give it a stir, and add a straw and one of those cute little umbrella things, if you like. Of course, you can just as well use a standard long drink glass instead, though you would obviously have to adjust the amounts of the fruit juices to suit your glassware.

I can't tell you how the taste was, because I don't like pineapple juice, so I didn't drink it. I can't even really go by the smell this time, because the mug had its own earthy scent. Primrose really seemed to like the drink, however, so I assume that it was good. Maybe she can comment on it later.

Nice use of toothpicks in your weekly cooking challenge, Prim. :f_grin: Personally, I never really understood the point of those cheese and grape combo things, but many people seem to like them at parties.

Time for a new challenge for you next week:

If we were playing Overcooked, you would probably have to deal with all the people in the video too while you were cooking, but for your challenge, feel free to keep it simple:

A homemade pizza of any kind

You have free reign when it comes to the toppings and anything else about this virtually universally popular dish. The only condition is that you make it from scratch.

Well, got tomatoes from the greenhouse, got cheese, got the flour, what could possibly go wrong?

Just hope my furniture doesn´t do magic tricks and stays in place :sifflote:

We are done!

Despite having had a large portion of Animal Style Banhauser fries earlier, I went for another attempt today... and barely made the 100 reps. :f_drink: I was trying to go for a few more, but it was 101 at best, and the final few were probably a little shaky. But they were good enough for me to let them count without feeling guilty about it.

It took a lot longer than I had planned, but I am glad that I was able to do this at all, as I expected a relatively high chance of failure for this project. Keep in mind that I started doing this on Christmas Day last year, being able to do maybe 20 consecutive pushups, possibly 30 on a good day.

Where do we go from here? Well, I could keep up the program, and aim for something higher. My current plan was supposed to prepare me for up to 197 reps in the end, and I would still be stuck on Week 4 - I briefly attempted Week 5 last time, but had to drop down again.

Instead, however, I think I will just try to develop a habit of doing 50 or 60 pushups every morning before work, and keep it up for a while. I can get back to a program like the one above eventually. I can also start adding some dumbbell exercise again, which were on hold during this challenge.

Also, there may be further sporting challenges on the horizon. I already have plans for the next one, but I also picked up a little something in town just about an hour ago:

Check out my new mountain bike. :f_grin: I stumbled upon it online last night while having a quick look for used bicycles in my hometown. It's a Scott YZ4 with 26" wheels, so they are a little on the small side, requiring me to put in a bit more work to get my distance. In a competitive setting like the local triathlon, this would surely put me at a disadvantage, but considering that I haven't been on a bicycle in at least a decade, possibly up to two, I believe this little horsey will do me for a while, at least until I get a feel for it again. Maybe I can even do a bike tour with Primrose some time.

For €65, it's basically a steal, in any case. Certainly better than paying a four figure sum for a brand new one, I believe, even if the small wheels may force me to put in some extra effort.
