Thirteen years ago, I embarked on my first serious poker adventure when I became a member of PokerStrategy. Like many beginners, I started with a $50 bonus, but what made my experience different playing poker this time was the discipline I developed early on, especially with bankroll management.
I followed the strategies laid out by the platform, but more importantly, I respected my bankroll like it was sacred and never bust it. I played mostly Sit & Go (SNG) tournaments, Heads-Up (HU) matches, a few Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs), and eventually moved on to Zoom games on PokerStars. My peak achievement was breaking even at NL50, but looking back, I realize I never really put in the effort required to truly beat that stake. I would grind for a while, but I never fully committed to studying and improving enough to make significant progress.
At the same time, my focus began to shift elsewhere. I found a job in the betting industry, and my attention turned more towards sports betting.
Earlier this year, I found myself curious about the poker landscape and wanted to see how the game had evolved during my long break. Out of a mix of desire and curiosity, I decided to deposit on KKpoker. To my surprise, a little bit of luck helped get the ball rolling. My bankroll started to grow again, and the excitement of grinding through the stakes reignited my passion for the game. In a twist of fate, I once again received a $50 bonus from PokerStrategy, this time through the LemOn challenge on KK Poker. But this time, something else happened. Along with my desire to play, I felt a strong urge to try something I hadn’t fully succeeded at before: starting an active and consistent poker blog.
That’s how this bankroll challenge was born: a personal quest to turn $1,000 into $5,000, with this blog serving as a record of my progress and a place to connect with others on similar journeys.
For this bankroll challenge, my main focus will be on KKPoker Flash games at NL20 and NL50. These stakes reflect my current skill level, and I feel comfortable grinding them (I’ve dabbled in NL100, but I realized that I’m not quite ready for that level yet – there’s more work to be done before I can confidently compete in those games.
In addition to cash games, I’ll also be keeping an eye on KKPoker’s promotions. I’ve found that promotions tend to attract a large number of recreational players, which can be a great opportunity to increase the bankroll. If any interesting promotions pop up, like SpinUP or MTTs, I’ll definitely jump in.
