I was mostly folding my way through Triple Draw, it was a couple of decent pots that carried me. I'm actually glad I even had the resolve to play that 8-low which ended up losing, instead of deciding to just completely fold into the money.
Again, I feel like my predraw ranges are solid, but I would need to get a better plan for the drawing rounds and more practice if I am going to play these games more regularly.
Still not sure, but when tournaments like this pop up, I suppose it is worth a shot.

Seems a solid plan.
I need a t-shirt that reads, "Folding my way to victory since 1969"
In poker, it often isn't always necessary to win the most, but it is always necessary to lose the least.
It´s like in tennis sometimes. The one who wins, is not always the one who hits the most winners, but the one who makes less mistakes than their opponent!
Stud Hi-Lo and I are still unlikely to become friends again...

I can't remember anymore, but that makes this result only better.
Despite the above hand - and yes, I think I should really stay away from Stud8 from now on - I have every reason to believe that poker will be a successful endeavor.
Why is that? Because my fortune cookie said so:

Primrose and I met up yesterday, and she had one big request: No more challenges! So yes, we still went swimming, but without going for the next step in our hour-long swimming challenge - even though I know how hard it can be to get Prim out of the water, so I imagined she would probably be able to complete it without even trying, but she still insisted. Fair enough, I suppose she's right. I can admittedly get a little carried away with this stuff.
It has been a while since we had a truly "carefree" meetup. Our last one suffered from a lot of time pressure, among other things because of the swimming challenge. In the one before that, we had to go easy on the liquor, because Prim had to play tennis the next day. And before that, we had one meetup which had to be relocated to the Palmengarten in Frankfurt (though that one was great), and then in March, there was that running challenge where Prim had to join my half-marathon training for a day and run four miles with me - something which was a bad idea in retrospect and I would like to apologize for it, even though I was very impressed with how the grindette pushed through.
None of that yesterday. We still had a bit of time pressure early on because we had to make it to that Chinese buffet, which meant that we had to end our swim earlier than we liked, but after that, it was everything that we hoped for.
Loads of fun, just the right amount of booze (okay, a little more than the "right" amount), and plenty of unstructured time where we could just chat and listen to music - we like to call this "the afterparty".
A lesson to be learned - sometimes less is more. I suppose it applies to poker too. In general, I often felt like the last few weeks kind of passed by in a blur, with little to look forward to. It was very important to include some personal highlights like this.
Nevertheless, there will be plenty to do in the upcoming weeks, I guess I will update you guys tomorrow evening. The extra energy will surely come in handy. And after having had such a nice summer experience, Prim and I feel even more ready for the upcoming season of fall in a month. Let's see if we can squeeze in one or two additional meetups until then too.
I was soooo glad, we didn´t any challenge this time! Enough of those challenges! The only challenge I do at the moment is the bankroll challenge!
We just had more than enough challenges this season - we BOTH! Yes, less is more and this is why in future, I will compete LESS in tennis, so there will be less Troll-Open-events, mainly for health reasons. How many times did my regular readers read the word "achillodynia" in my blog?! At least four times! So! Yes, less is more! That goes also for poker in my case: quality before quantity! Better play a bit less, but with more quality!
How'r things going here?
Been away too long, due to circumstances ![]()
My garden project started very good, but due to an injury, stalled partially.
Must say the tomatoes I grew last winter (inside) still carry a lot of yellow tomatoes ![]()
Coming months I will rearrange my garden, install a water system and start with the winter seeds

Hey Zeezout,
until August things were not going so great, but after the big heat wave last week and this week, everything turned around: We went from "What the heck are we going to harvest this year?" to "Who is going to eat ALL THIS?"
but this is a topic for a later blog post....

Better than expected .....
It was poker weekend! We played today and yesterday on Party and 888, mainly freerolls, but also 2 MTTs. This was not exactly our luckiest weekend and not exactly our A-poker.
Yesterday, I was very tired from tennis training, Wendy had had a terrible car accident on Friday while driving in MarioKart, Bowser jr. was totally exhausted from being sassy and stealing our hearts in Mario Party and Baby Peach was tired from driving her little bobby car in Mario Kart (and taking 3rd place, by the way). So, not our A-poker - at all!
Nevertheless, at least Wendy managed to get ITM in some of the freerolls and Bowser jr. got us a little 0,11 $ ticket today.
We were not running great, but hey, better than nothing, right? ![]()
BR on 888: 12,43 €, so at least a little winning of +1,34 €
It will be back to work tomorrow, but not only that. The school summer holidays have also come to an end, which will mean for me that many of my activities which have previously been on hold will recommence as well. One of them will be the Trollympics (the track and field ones, the aquatic events kept going already), another one will be karate practice on Tuesdays and usually Thursdays too. The lifeguard gig won't get any easier either, with events being scheduled for both of the upcoming weekends at the lake.
I therefore expect a tough week, without many afternoons spent at home. Poker would usually have to take a back seat, but guess what - the MicroMillions are underway, aren't they? Well, I'm not sure how many events I will play, but for my own convenience, I took note of the ones I may potentially be interested in (all times are CET):
WED, August 20th, 18:35 - $3.30 Stud Hi
THU, August 21st, 18:35 - $3.30 PLO8
FRI, August 22nd, 20:35 - $5.50 2-7 Single Draw
SAT, August 23rd, 21:05 - $2.20 8-Game
SUN, August 24th, 21:05 - $3.30 2-7 Triple Draw
MON, August 25th, 18:35 - $5.50 NL Five Card Draw
WED, August 27th, 18:35 - $5.50 PL Badugi
THU, August 28th, 18:35 - $5.50 PL 5-Card Omaha Hi-Lo
FRI, August 29th, 18:35 - $5.50 2-7 Single Draw
FRI, August 29th, 20:35 - $3.30 Stud Hi-Lo
SAT, August 30th, 21:05 - $3.30 PL 6-Card Omaha
Out of these games, I only really care about Badugi, which is why I highlighted it, but who knows... maybe I will give a few of the other games a shot too. The majority of them will likely not be played, though.
Also, thanks to everyone who has voted in the poll.
Not sure how much longer it will stay up, I'm guessing another week or so. My busy schedule will prevent me from getting any broadcasts going yet, but I am already in the brainstorming phases and I aim to have my first streams ready some time in early September.
In the meantime, I would be grateful if anyone could link me to some copyright-free stream-friendly background music. Ideally, it should be a longer compilation for safe offline storage. I have prepared some stuff, not sure if I like it all that much, but I do think that the stream should have some kind of background music, at least.

Start here:
https://www.fairlyoddstreamers.com/resources/music
These didn't exist when I was streaming
Edit: Ooops, these are paid services.
I'll do some more digging.
Some might have free trials
Edit #2 This looks promising: https://freepd.com/
Cheers, Vorpal!
A lot of them seem to be either commercial or subscription-based, and usually streamed online, none of which is ideal. A few of them, however, also link to YouTube versions, which is better for my purposes. Out of the options available there, GameChops seems to be the best choice, since it links to longer YouTube compilations.
I will keep exploring my options, this being one of them. I even considered just running some nature ambience sounds in the background.

Sling Ball Throw (1 kg) (Coordination)
Bronze: 28.50m
Silver: 33.50m
Gold: 38.50m
Not an Olympic event.
World Record (2kg): 86.92m by Alwin Wagner (GER) on August 21st, 1982.
Trollympic Record: 39.10m by Harrier88 (PS) at the 2023 Trollympics, July 10th, 2023.
Harrier's distance: 28.60m
What was that?!? ![]()
Regardless of the result, I had much bigger plans for my first Trollympic meetup after the break. A bunch of kids showed up before me and required much of the examiner's attention, not to mention that they were hogging a lot of the running track together with another grown-up Trollympian who was running the 3K meters, so I didn't feel like going for another 100m dash attempt today.
When I was finally ready for my first sling ball throw attempts after over an hour of waiting, the first few veered wildly to the left again. It's not unusual at all to see this happening for a few attempts, but today, it seemed like I couldn't throw straight if my life depended on it. I switched to a less effective underhand technique to avoid this issue, only to have the problem of my throws being way too flat instead. I eventually realized that this wasn't my day, and tried to do a few "safe" ones to at least put a Bronze distance in the books.
Was I poorly warmed up after waiting for my turn for so long? Did the kids make me nervous? Did I overdo it with the workouts at home? Did I have some bad mayo for lunch? Too little sleep? Too much booze last Friday? I don't know, but that was a crap showing at the Trollympics today. I better redeem myself next week.
For a glimmer of hope, I tried to do some rope skipping too when the kids gave it a shot, since this counts as another coordination event. To qualify, I would have to do a fancy criss cross technique, like the one shown below. It seemed impossible at first, but when I gave it another try, it somehow kind of worked out all of a sudden, and I think I got up to about 15 reps or so? That would have been good enough for Silver already.
I would have loved to put this one on the board, but the examiner wasn't watching me, and when I tried to do it again, I was too tired to manage more than maybe four. So we can't let this one count yet, I'm afraid. Maybe next time, if I can get some practice at home.
And if you are wondering if such a poor performance is enough to get me "kicked upstairs", as the saying goes... that was actually on the table today.
When I was still waiting, one of the people who were taking care of the kids told me about an opening for an administrative position at the athletics club, and I told her that I was potentially interested. We would have to discuss the rest with the people who are directly involved and see if I could actually see myself doing it and somehow squeeze it into my schedule. I believe I would be responsible for organizing events and coordinating the instructors for the youth athletics training. Well, who knows... it's no secret by now that I am committed to this kind of thing.
For now, we will just have to take this mess of a performance, which, however, at least locks up Silver in the overall rating for me. But if you think that I will settle for anything less than Gold, you are sorely mistaken - the only reason I even accept that is because there is no Platinum. I'll be back...
New "Medal Table":
3,000 Meter Run (Stamina): Gold
Medicine Ball Throw (Strength): Silver
Standing Long Jump (Strength): Gold
100 Meter Dash (Speed): Silver
25m Freestyle (Speed): Silver
Sling Ball Throw (Coordination): Bronze
Current Progress
Stamina: Gold (3,000 Meter Run) - 3 points
Strength: Gold (Standing Long Jump) - 3 points
Speed: Silver (100 Meter Dash) - 2 points
Coordination: Bronze (Sling Ball Throw) - 1 point
9 points in total, 11 points are required for Gold.
Primrose mentioned to me that she is getting a little annoyed by my constant challenges, even if she is not personally involved. I hope you guys don't feel the same. ![]()
Either way, the Trollympics will continue for about another month, whether they will end in Shameful Silver or Glorious Gold, and I am not short on ideas yet either - in fact, I am currently in contact with the DLRG about my next projects. What can I say - I'm a crazy squirrel.
An average day with Harrier:
Badugi had some decent results tonight too, despite some bad bounty hunting:

Topsy-turvy world at the FT. I was in the driver's seat for a while, shame I couldn't go all the way, or at least grab a few more bounties, but considering how close I came to busting out a couple of times, dragging my stack all the way to the heads-up phase after all is a very satisfactory result.

Time to go to bed now - after I have done my biceps curls. You know me.

Quick little mini-session
Just a super quick little session on 888: Had time to play the 450 $ Freebie freeroll and had to use up a Spinner Winner freeroll ticket. Wendy did not disapoint us and came ITM in the Freebie freeroll. She won us +58 ct.
Yaaay! No luck in the Spinner Winner though, we ran with 77 into AA.
How's that for a mega-cooler? A 6-Badugi is usually the threshold where I believe the hand should never be folded under any circumstances, and should be pushed all-in whenever possible. If it's well disguised as it was here, all the better.

BU had two outs on the last draw, possibly a third one for a split pot too, so that was around 95% equity for us.
Incredibly, I still somehow managed to come back after this.

Given the circumstances, any cash was good tonight.
Applied Mathematics - Update

We were hard at work on the balcony today... but we had to take some setbacks too. Like when one of our constructs fell over while we were working on the next one, resulting in one of the beams breaking in two.

Luckily, we had some spares, but it wasn't easy to remove those connector pieces again after working so hard to hammer them in.
Also, while my calculations appear to have been correct, I don't think all the pieces perfectly fit together. Can you see it? Honestly, this may not have been the best quality wood.

Anyway, we at least finished the framework of one of the two sections. Here's where we are at right now:

In the upcoming days, we will try finishing the other part:

And finally, we would have to install the roof too, of course.
Taking a look from my bedroom window... it does seem like the beams are pretty crooked. Again, I expect that this wood wasn't the best choice.
