The first thing I should say is that I am saying this. Which is to say that I am speaking these words into a microphone which is rather cleverly turning the sounds into words. I got into speech recognition technology when I was writing my book. My typing skills were so terrible and tortoise like that I decided I would be better off getting some software to do it for me.
The only problem of course is that learning to use the software takes so unbelievably long that you are likely to have slit your own wrists before you have written anything useful. (For example, these two paragraphs have taken me nearly an hour to produce).
OK, deep breath. Something that has led me back to voice recognition is the fact that I am getting horrendous shooting pains up and down my right arm from all the incessant mouse clicking that my various jobs entail. That is part of the reason why I haven't played much poker this month. The other reason is that I'm doing some light editorial work for PokerStrategy which is hugely satisfying compared to my other job chasing arrears on people's mortgages.
Anyway, to cut a long story short and what with one thing and another I've only made a tiny profit this month. Given how terribly I've been running, it's amazing I made any at all. I was $400 down this time yesterday, but fortunately a sick session of SnGs rescued me from ignomany at the last minute.
I am still about $750 below ev for the 2250 sngs I have played and another $400 below ev on NL25 SH but I am not overly worried about either facts, given nothing can be done that will make any difference. At some point I will make up some of the 34BI that I am below ev on the $36+3 Turbos and at some later point I will get to a $6,000 BR and start playing the $55+5s and since both of these are pretty much inevitable (barring total mental collapse or my right arm falling off my shoulder completely), I may as well be patient.
I have asked to reduce my hours at the building society in order to devote more time to my family and have some evenings back and if that is agreed I hope to be able to increase my volume a bit too. Fingers crossed!
February profit: $123.87
Profit as % of starting BR: 3.12%
BR $4,027.93
Thanks, as ever, for your custom.
sorry to hear about your arm tim, that does sound relatively serious. you should get it checked out if it doesnt stop soon imo.
im so happy you had an upswing. you definitely deserved it with all your hard work recently.
GL on the tables sir
Hey 64,
Ive just read your blog "cover to cover" - really enjoyed it. Keep up the good fight, congrats on the baby girl, and I hope your arm gets better! Im very impressed that you went from 50-4000ish in a years time. Congratulations!
All the best,
Joe
Thanks, Joe, appreciate that. It's not bad progress, I guess, but I expected it to be a bit quicker...
@<3: will give it a few more days then see a medic, I suppose.
Man that is the worst when something you need so much hurts when you use it.
Have you considered trying using a gamepad to play with in the meantime? You can set it up with Table
Ninja for full tilt, and you can just hold it it like you play a video game. You can use the thumbstick to
control the mouse. I had it set to bring the table to the front and move the mouse to the table and
when it popped up I only had to move the thumbstick a tiny bit to manually click bet fold call etc
and I also had the buttons set to do this. It takes a little getting used to but not much and it may be
much easier on your arm. You can assign any key or combonations of keys to do anything, you can even
set gamnepad keys to mouse buttons directly.
I wouldn't recommend setting your options to table in front and move mouse to table if you play tiled though,
If you are not careful and another table dings in your tiles at the second you push your button on the table
you are on you may find yourself shoving on the wrong table etc etc.
Either way, I hope you get better soon.
Just to let you know, in case the Skypers among you are thinking I'm ignoring you, that I'm off computers for a week - doctor's orders.
I have pulled a muscle in my shoulder/neck as a result of RSI from spending 13 hours a day on the computer. ![]()
I'm not sure what this means for the long term, but I'm taking week off to start with.

I've started using the suffix '-kins' a lot more recently, having become a dad. Everything is "sweetiekins" or "bunnykins" or "my gorgeous lovelykins". And that's just to the guys down the pub.
So I thought I would present you with a miniupdateykins, since it's been a while since I last posted.
While I'm still getting a bit of soreness and discomfort in my right arm, I think the worst of the injury is behind me now. I'm still a bit nervous about going back to the massive multi-tabling grind of the sit and gos, though, as it's virtually impossible to do that without extensive mouse usage.
Over the last couple of weeks I've been perfecting my voice recognition software which, when combined with TableNinja, allows me to play poker leaned back in my chair just talking to the computer. True, this does mean Mrs Tim64 has to listen to me saying things like "Move mouse left... mouseclick...press foxtrot..." etc., but you can't have everything and between you and me she's quite used to me talking to myself already.
I decided that I was losing value by continuing to play NL25 SH when I was comfortably rolled for NL50 and so I moved up a week and a half ago. Thankfully this coincided with a break in my bad run at cash games (don't get me started on the SnGs) and so, after 25,000 hands at mixed limits played since September, I have at last got back in profit (though naturally I am still $250 below EV
(Graph below).
My overall intention is unchanged: build my bankroll up to $6000 and start playing the $60 Turbo SnGs. I'm about three quarters of the way there, now.
In other news I'm really enjoying writing...the...uhm...news. I find both of my poker related jobs infinitely more satisfying and intellectually stimulating than my call centre evening job. Thankfully I've applied for, and been granted, a reduction in hours at the building society. I'll be dropping to just two evenings a week and alternate Saturdays. The basic aim being to move more and more of the income generation activity to my armchair ♦
BR $4550.22
i always laugh at your blog entries tim. GL with returning to the sngs you deserve a bit of luck on your side for once
Wow, really nice blog and very good progress!..
Good thing your beating the 30$+ SnGs, im struggling going plus with the 1$ turbo SnG.. even though i find very small leaks when checking with SnG Wizard..
Good luck with your goals! Hope your arm gets better fast.. ♦

Hey Tim,
I've been reading your blog for quite a while and wanted to give you my input on the above - I think someone mentioned that previously, but you can indeed play with almost no mouse usage. I see you are using Table Ninja, you can just combine it with a basic gamepad and there you go - you just sit back on your armchair and enjoy the games, without talking to yourself ♦ (I'd go crazy if I have to talk to my monitor a few hours a day).
I'm using this one - http://reviews.logitech.com/7061/301/reviews.htm
It costs only around $15 and it's definitely worth it. You'll need a couple of days to get used to it, but once you do, can easily grind as many tables as you want.
Well, 8979687 and LetchLord,
Thanks very much for the suggestion about the game pad -- I had never even thought of it (well in truth I didn't know they existed ♦ ).
That looks like it could definitely be an option - I assume they connect by USB?
If so, I definitely like the idea of it.
Anyone out there with any opinions of which game pad to get?
Appreciate the time and effort in helping me out of my hole
