Hey tim just sat and read through your whole blog while multitabling !! must say mate the way you analyse everything is exactly as me or as my gf says your so analytical (not that she or i can spell it)

you have taken a leap of faith in turning pro and gotta admire that.
Do u ever play any mtt's for that lucrative big win that would boost you with a nice win to sit on ?

loving the blog mate.

I thank you for this kind commendation. I'm just in the middle of my Christmas letter now... had to refer back to this blog to find out when I started getting health problems :(

This month has started off pretty horrendously with me dropping about $1k...
Running about 10 stacks below ev, playing badly and getting constantly coolered has made Tim64 a sad Christmas cracker.

Sometimes I seem so incapable of hand reading or putting people on ranges that I despair of ever making it to nl100.

Ho hum...

Please, Santa, bring me sets. Sets and flopped nut flushes. That's not too much to ask, now is it?

Happy Christmas all!

This is how I feel about NL10. I can't decide whether the fact that you feel this way about NL50 is worrying or reasuring. Either way, have a great Xmas.

I think preflop is doable if player squeeze alot. But if player squeeze a lot on blinds then i would like to even 3b prf.

I like your flop bet, but so small. It doesnt make any sense. It looks like, u want to get raised or called. With that hand u dont like either one.

But keep going man ;).

As we near month end, I find that the likelihood of making any profit for December is virtually zero. Mostly cos of stuff like this:

Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $0.50(BB) Replayer
SB ($82.60)
BB ($49.50)
UTG ($50)
UTG+1 ($242)
CO ($50)
Hero ($92.85)

Dealt to Hero K♠ A♥

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $1.50, SB raises to $5, fold, Hero raises to $12, SB raises to $25, Hero raises to $92.85 (AI), SB calls $57.60 (AI)

FLOP ($165) 8♣ 5♥ 6♥

TURN ($165) 8♣ 5♥ 6♥ 8♠

RIVER ($165) 8♣ 5♥ 6♥ 8♠ T♥

Hero shows K♠ A♥
(Pre 75%, Flop 86.5%, Turn 93.2%)

SB shows T♠ K♣
(Pre 25%, Flop 13.5%, Turn 6.8%)

SB wins $162

I saw his hand, thought "wow, I have him crushed". Then thought "ok, now, give him his Ten, to reward his enterprising play - on the river would be fine". Poker gods at your service - always happy to oblige.

Imo, he should bet/fold river with his 44 since you always have a better hand than 44 on river when you c/r. You're never doing that with just a 7x, so the worst hand for value is 87 and your bluffrange is empty. Otherwise I think his play is fine esp. since you're tight enough to give up overpairs :f_grin:.

Tough Times

December was my worst month as a professional poker player. Despite clearing $500 of black card bonuses and making $299.38 in direct rakeback, my BR has fallen by $500, to a little over $4500. Poker losses of around $1300.00 are the cause.

My $EV for the month is a breakeven $80. But, due to an unending series of cruel beats, I ended the month 29 stacks below EV. This is the notional difference between being able to eat and starving. So it sucks. Alot. I say "notional" because - like any reasonably well run business - some allowance has been made for this eventuality, so the bills will still be paid, and the wolf kept from the door. At least for now...

I'm pretty depressed about the quality of my play, though. Running so badly in terms of all-in equity has caused the decision making process to be compromised. Laydowns I was making in November, I couldn't make in December. So, for example when I flop two pair and my opponent turned a better two pair, I couldn't find the fold button - I called down just to see what kind of suckout it was.

EV bb/100 @ nl50 Rush has fallen to around 1.75, after nearly 200k hands. It's pretty abysmal. The first 100k hands @ 5bb/100 had given me (another) unrealistic set of expectations...

What's next? Well, I'm about 1,000 ftp away from clearing my end of year Iron Man bonus which hopefully should get the BR back over $5k. This is pretty important for me, psycologically, since not having 100 BI for my subsistence limit (the limit that should enable us to scrape by) makes me uneasy. I think I need at least another month grinding nl50 - trying to reduce my errors and run a bit better - before thinking about moving up. So a shot at nl100 will have to wait. It seems a long way off...

5 months in, it's fair to say that this pro lark hasn't worked out as well as I'd hoped. Let this be a lesson to the more impulsive of you! However, concentrating for a moment on the positives, the second half of this month has been the best in terms of my health since I first started getting muscle problems back in March. My sister bought me a book on stretching for Christmas - oh, the glamour! - and doing some stretching seems to have loosened things up a lot. Given that I've got myself into a situation of having to grind out huge numbers of hands each month just to get by, every additional hour I can play in comfort is a godsend.

Summary:
Poker profit/loss: -$1407.76
Bonuses: $500
R/b: $299.38
Total profit/loss: -$505.87
Total hours: 126h
$/hr -$4.00

Horrid, run bad graph below.

Hi Tim,

Keep faith in your game, your graph looks sick but I'm sure it will be up side down soon.

As far as your confidence is concerned sweat sessions is a must.
You can give me a shout on skype anytime I'm connected to sweat you!

And ofc good news for your back!
