Champagne glass in hand, I'm pleased to report my best poker month since I began playing in Jan 09 and in particular my best poker month since I turned pro in August of last year. I would have broken the $3k barrier but for running around $500 below EV (surprise!).

Statistics:

Games played: 1410 (6 mtts) + ~1k hands @ NL25 Rush for Take2.
Avg Buyin: $21.56
Length: 154.16 hrs played
Rake: $2,373.9
FTPs: ~60k
Winnings: STTs $1515.93 + Rakeback $300.85 + Take2 $25 + Blackcard bonus $962.94 + plyr T/fer + Cashgames ($59.27) = +$2775.45
$/hr: $18.00

ROI: 5.6% 7.5 (T) | 1.6% -0.9% (N) | 6.7% 10.3% (ST)

I'm delighted with almost every aspect of the month's grind. I did not manage quite as many Normal/Turbos as I had hoped and resorted a bit too often to making up the numbers with Superturbos. Fortunately I ran pretty well in these, so my overall profit did not suffer. After rakeback I managed very close to $2/tournament ($1.97), which is the magic number as far as I'm concerned.

As of today I'm ranked #13 on the FTP leaderboards for both $20-$26 and $30-$36 6max and #1 on both lists out of all UK players:

Thanks guys! May has got off to a good start. Have recovered a decent amount of last month's lost EV, today, with a +7BI start (plus rakeback Friday of course!).

May Goals:

1. Play 1250 turbo or regular SNGs (SuperTurbo SnGs will not be counted)
2. Keep up-to-date with all new PS SNG video content.
3. Go for a walk every morning.
4. Make a plan for moving up limits.
5. Keep smiling.

Re #4, (moving up) I am somewhat unsure what is best. The main options are:

a). Obtain 100 BI for the $60s (should reach this at some point this month unless things go pear shaped) and then take a limited shot, probably something like including one or two $60s in my sets and just seeing how they go, with the intention of stopping if they go badly; or

b). Use the 100 BI threshold as a jumping off point for obtaining staking for a dedicated shot at the $60s.

c). Continue to grind out my current limits until my bankroll is 150BI for the $60s. Realistically this will not be for a good many months since withdrawal requirements mean I am unlikely to be able to put much more than $500 towards bankroll building each month, so $3k would be approximately 6 months.

Not too keen on c) as I want to make the most of current momentum. Both a) and b) have their pros and cons. Grateful for any advice...

both your options look good. personally, i went for B when i moved up. found that I could completely immerse myself in the limit without being worried about the swings. getting lots of experience is what helped me to move up quickly, rather than moving up and down up and down which can take months.

Did you reach any conclusions about likely $/hr differences of playing on the higher limits vs sharing winnings (assuming one is fortunate enough to have a nice run while being staked) with the backer?

Or perhaps you felt it was more a case of the potential increase in experience and possibility of risk-sharing outweighing any shortfall in $/hr?

Sell some action on the 60s or maybe even try to get a stake for a determined number of games.

Well, I am still really torn between various options for moving up. However, the predominant instinct -- as always -- is that I would like to achieve my goals single-handed.

I have always been really independent and stubborn. Also, I have this sizeable chip on my shoulder (heaven knows why) whereby it's really important to me to prove that I can do something by myself.

I'm trying not to let any of this prevent me making the right decisions but if there's a chance I can move up in stakes under my own steam, then I'd like to do that.

So my aim is to get to 102 BI for the $60s and then start playing my usual sets, with up to two $60 SnGs mixed in (and only if I can get decent, largely reg-free games). If the bankroll falls below 100 BI than I will revert to previous limits and exclude the $60s. I will try this for May, (expecting to move up and down a bit) and if I fail to get cemented at the $60s or if for some other reason it's not working out, then I will probably seek some backing to move up in June.

If anyone thinks this is a terrible idea, please shout now before I do something stupid. Need about $500 more before it's crunch time.
