Someone frightened me off with tales of sick variance at the higher limits. Pluse, that patch starting around 1800 games in, and lasting for 800 games (where I was 50 BI below EV) was pretty gross in terms of $ at the time - and put me off.
Ended the month on a near $500 day for an epic ninth month as a pro:

Next steps
While I'm obviously completely delirious with how May went, I am only too aware that I won't run that good for ever. So I will only be withdrawing a maximum of the EV amount won + rakeback, which is around $2500. The rest will, following the fable of the Grasshopper and the Ant, be stowed away to pad the bankroll in expectance of leaner times to come.
I've managed to obtain backing for a 500 game shot at the $60s next month which I am looking forward to (and many thanks to my backer for his confidence in me). It's somewhat annoying that the month will kick off with SNG Madness on FT which is traditionally a regfest. All I can do is to game select as normal and try to stay out of their way. As always I will be going for quality rather than quantity and aiming not to get caught up in the leaderboard madness.
Volume wise, May was a huge failure. There were some mitigating circumstances since the little one was having some sleep problems and I had to take a day off to cover Mrs Tim64's being ill. But even taking into account those factors I didn't get close to the 1250 game target I set myself. I've been finding that getting 50 games in a day is basically taking me from the time I get up until the early hours of the morning since I have to keep taking breaks due to persisting health problems (muscle ache etc).
I don't really want to play poker 24/7, six days a week, so it may be that I need to set myself a more realistic monthly target (earning capacity permitting). Probably somewhere between what I achieved this month -- which was too little -- and what I had aimed to achieve -- which may have been too high. I'm also under some pressure not to work such long hours from Mrs Tim64, so it's likely I will aim for an even 1000 games in June.
What I'd like to do is to get to the point, by the end of July (i.e. two poker month's time) of being independently bankrolled to play the $60 games with 150BI, which I consider solid BRM for a pro. That will mark the end of my poker year and, if I get to that point, and I'm able to play those games profitably, I will be inclined to consider the experiment a success (notwithstanding all the months of misery and pain which preceded my switch to SnGs!).
Geez, Tim! Epic slide you got there on the picture! Also, $36/hr seems pretty solid. How cool would it be if you run even better this month ♠_cool:

I'm also thinking about mixing in some 6max, but going to watch some vids and play around with wiz first before I do that.

Somehow always knew I would run bad over the weekend. Really tempting not to play at all during the Madness regsfest.
11 BI below EV for the weekend. Not complaining too much since I had about $1500 over EV last month so I was expecting the debt collectors to come knocking sooner or later...
Kind of annoyed about one thing, and I feel a bit ashamed about posting it here but honesty is the best policy. The money has gone to my head a bit since I began to make progress at SnGs. From struggling to make anything at all, being up a couple of thousand dollars at the end of each month feels like all the riches of the world.
That's no biggie but one of the effects is that I have been buying, and drinking, more beer than before. Like the other day I went to the local wine shop and bought three cases of beers (Sam Adams, Peroni Gran Riserva and Bitburger). Being able to afford really nice beers, instead of the crappy supermarket own brand stuff is really pleasing, but on the other hand I don't want to just become a gambling boozer.
The other problem is, inevitably, that one sometimes "breaks the rules" and has a beer open while playing. Not good. Not good at all. As I have learned, for every wish there comes a curse.
Since I've run into a juicy downswing (dropped $1 K since the beginning of my month) it's time to post my goals for this month:
June Goals:
1. Play 1,000 turbo or regular SNGs (approximately 40 per day)
2. Keep up-to-date with all new PS SNG video content
3. Go for a walk every morning
4. Finish Byron Jacobs' beginners book on Limit Holdem
5. Cement myself at the $60s and try not to worry that I'm 20 BI below EV at the moment!
6. Achieve average BI of $40 (will be tough - I'll get as close as I can).

The only value of money is to enable us to live life to the fullest. But if you spend all the hours god sends making money and you are unhappy at what you do, then it doesnt matter how much you earn.

Don't let it get to you, Tim! For instance I`m 40bi < EV over 200sngs at the $36s and it's not even that bad, so just keep kicking ass and you`ll be in the green soon enough!

sure more $$ doesnt mean better quality of life, but for most cases, $ do improve one's quality of life. $ buys us the most precious resource, time.
probably you've made sufficient $ to be making such statements then

Agreed. Below a certain threshold, more money = more happiness. Like, if you do not have enough to eat and then you earn $10, you are way happier.
But above a certain threshold you reach a point where the extra $ from working v hard and being v stressed is not worth it (or not worth it to some people). Like if I have $2000k per month and then I have $4000 I can living in a bigger house and have a nicer car and eat better food etc. But I'm not necessarily happier - just depends on how much extra you have to do for the money and on your priorities.
And yes, if you were always poor, you will strive to make lots of $ and you will be driven by the memory of poverty to work harder and harder. If you were always comfortable, the extra $ is less important.
