Hey Pokerstrategy
After browsing the site for a couple of years, and playing recreationally, I've decided to take things a little more seriously this summer, starting with a blog.
I began playing about four years ago in a home game. I literally had not played a card game in my life before the age of 24, so you could say I arrived on the poker scene a little late. I'm 28 now and all I really like to do is play.
So I discovered online poker about three years ago and since then I've played a couple of times a week. 95% of that has been MTTs.
I wouldn't say I've done badly. I've ground a $50 bankroll up to several thousand dollars over the past 2 1/2 years, but my winnings are far from impressive.
Not long before xmas I became interested in cash games, so decided to try them out. I do OK in micro and low stakes FR games, but I get my ass kicked at 6max. I've taken several shots at nl50 and lost around 12 buy ins. I hate losing. I feel like I'm too LAG and spewy in many spots, and too weak with medium hands. I dick around playing real aggro coz its fun, then I out level myself and stack off to a monster hand.
After Xmas I purchased tracking software for the first time, and bought pleno1s package too. Both have helped alot, and Plenos amat thread is pretty cool too. I've found that I over rely on small sample sizes on PT.
Today I finished college for the summer and have decided to put in huge volume. My biggest problem is discipline and that is why I've started this blog. In don't care if anybody reads it or not (although id love feedback and the chance to make some friends who actually play poker!), its more for me - a place to record my progress (or lack of) and to try objectively examine my decisions. I need to spend more time studying the game. I'm not completely inept or lazy when it comes to study - I've devoured a couple of dozen strategy books over the past few years. But books will only get you so far.
I'm going to lay out some groundrules:
I will play 30 hours per week in 4 hour sessions
I will play regular tables - not zoom. I think that a feel for game flow and table dynamics is important and something I need to work on
At the end of every session I will update my blog with key hands and general trouble spots. This is to improve my indiscipline with regards to study
At the end of every month I will post a PT report. I will also do this if I encounter a winning or losing streak, or if I am considering moving up to a new limit
I will also contribute to others blogs and posts, both to give back to the forum and to gain insight.
I will play at least 20,000 Hands at nl25 before considering moving up (I have hundreds of buyins at this level)
I will not look at my bankroll during this time in order to quell my results oriented attitude
Success will be judged through pokertracker only
I will play 50,000 hands at the next limit before considering moving up
I will not play a tournament until I am consistently beating the next level (nl50)
My only goal is to consistently beat nl100 by the end of the summer/September
That's it for now! If you read the whole thing, well done and thanks! If not, I really couldn't blame you!
