Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 8♠, 8♥
2 folds, MP1 raises to $0.20, MP2 folds, Hero calls $0.20, 2 folds, BB calls $0.10.

Flop: ($0.65) 3♥, 6♦, 9♦ (3 players)
BB bets $0.20, MP1 calls $0.20, Hero raises to $1.00, BB folds, MP1 calls $0.80.

Turn: ($2.85) 6♥ (2 players)
MP1 bets $2.00, Hero folds, MP1 gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $2.85

Ignore the stats because of the few hands.

I called preflop for set value against the guy.

On the flop I am unsure - I have missed my set but am a long way ahead of a lot of hands. I do not think either of them are particularly strong. The 1/3 pot bet from the blind guy looks very weak and then the call from the other guy looks like he is drawing or holding over cards. Is the raise ok here?

Turn I am pretty sure is a fold. I don't see him making this move with any hands I beat.

That is usually my mantra.

Still not sure entirely why I deviated from it here. I think it was the lack of T+ cards and the weakness of the opposition however that is no excuse.

Must remain strong through the set-less times!

Raise preflop.88 is too strong to be played for set value only.
As played, dont like your raise into two people. You will get called, and even if you are not beat ,there is half the deck you dont want to see on the turn.So if you played 88 so passively preflop, just call or even fold when you are not sure what to do
