vs an open raise and a 3-bet I would also fold preflop with Q8s. I would continue here by calling with KQs and a few other strong hands (like TT) but we should otherwise just continue with very strong hands by capping. Just refer to the bronze article on preflop strategy.

The way your opponents play postflop is difficult to evaluate without holecards... but I suspect you are wondering if you should have called given that you can sometimes improve to a strong hand like trips.

The odds of flopping trips, a flush, or two pair are kind of rare and you shouldn't continue against players who've put in so much aggression before you act.

You made the correct fold because you cannot continue profitably on the off chance of flopping a strong hand.

Say i call pre would you continue to call on the flop or folded to any raise? If fold to which raise? (to compare with the other hand where we have equity to call on the flop)!!

in theory, if we did call there would be 17.4 bets in the pot on the flop.

With a pair thats rarely ahead we can improve and win with 2 pair or trips sometimes. 5 cards improve our hand but they don't always secure the win. Based on the action and redraws we might discount to 3.5 outs (so we're guessing that hitting 2 pair or trips gets us the win 70% of the time).

We can call at 12.5:1 with 3.5 outs which means you can often call 1 bet. Its tough though because we usually aren't sure our cost to see the turn will be 1 bet since players can raise behind us. If theres a raise & its 3 handed (as an example) you'll only be getting around 10:1 on your total flop investment instead of 12.5:1 but you would have to call the raise after calling 1 bet. Folding after calling the first bet would be a large mistake if you expect to have 3.5 outs because you'll be getting like 20:1 odds.

Hi!

Its all been said.Clear fold preflop, this is spot to only continue with your strong hands and it good enough to say you should just cap all the hands you want to continue...range like 99+,AQo+,AQs+,KQs is good for starters.

What about coldcalling with better suited connectors and pocket pairs? I'd call 87s+, also 22-99. There are already 3 players in the pot so even if it gets capped it's not that expensive.

Hi!

Sure:)Im never folding pockets and even 67s might be fine to call. But for begginers I think cap/fold strategy is much easier strategy to master not really leaving much EV on the table

With the pot probably getting 4handed i don't mind either to coldcall decent suited connectors like 89s and pocketpairs. As datsmanahme already said. This hand is good enough to proceed for 1SB but not if there's a raise and a 3bet. If somebody got the flush or if you hit the queen and somebody has JT.It would be terrible. Without the flush being present you could rather call even 2bets on the flop but in that case you have to discount your outs too much. Whereas the flushdraw is not a super big argument because Mp2 and BU are likely to have overpairs but maybe AJ AT AQ AK :diamond:

You could construct another situation where you're not sure whether to call regarding odds and outs, regarding the right discounting etc. :)
