Fermina asked about this hand or one very similar (that I didn't find). Basically we've hit top pair on the flop after raising preflop and the question was "Why bet the flop? Why not slowplay and allow someone to catch up a bit?"
Its important to discuss slowplays, but not because they're often more profitable. Most of the time we should fastplay as the more profitable option. HOWEVER, we always have the option to slowplay when we've hit a strong hand. As a result its important to know when and why to fastplay/slowplay a strong hand.
In this situation I like to fastplay. The BTN is very loose and will have a wide range. The BB is tight but given his position he's more likely to have a wide range. When they're on a lot of hands they're more likely to have hit a weak gutter draw. They have 4 outs to improve on the turn and they'll get 7.4:1 to call the flop.
Its profitable for me to extract value from these hands along with weak made hands and anything else that the BTN may decide to call with loosely on the flop.
