0.5/1 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.49 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is BB with A♦, Q♣
2 folds, CO raises, BU folds, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, CO calls, SB calls.

Flop: (9.00 SB) T♦, J♣, 9♦ (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, CO raises, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, CO caps, SB calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (10.50 BB) A♣ (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, CO bets, SB calls, Hero raises, CO 3-bets (All-In), SB caps, Hero calls.

River: (18.25 BB) 6♠ (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 20.25 BB

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows a pair of aces (Ad Qc)
SB shows a straight, ace high (Kd Qh)
CO shows a pair of jacks (Kc Js)

SB wins with a straight, ace high (Kd Qh)

CO was an unknown maniac and SB a known loose passive player.

I think I played it right, but it still hurts. Or was I too focused on CO that I didn't see SB coming? (but you can never see a cs coming)

flop 3-bet is ok imo. especially with CO almost all in. on the turn i tend to donk/call. i don´t want to give a free card and a check/raise is a bit overplay imo. the board isn´t really great. AT, A9, AJ are quite likely

I don't use to donk turn (only flush draws and made hands ).

So what's the difference between donk/call and check/raise? When do you use each of them? And what do you mean by "a check/raise is a bit overplay imo"? Just a quick explanation (if possible), I'll go to the strategy forum if I need more.

well your hand isn´t THAT strong right now. you have a good draw but there is quite a good chance that you are behind to a two pair or something which will 3-bet you if you check/raise (and raise you if you donk. so you kinda safe 1 bet). on the other hand they could of course only hold a draw on that board so i like to donk to prevent them from taking a free card.

So donk/call is better for protection against dangerous boards and check/raise for value with really strong hands? (quick simple version)

Can c/r be used for protection with less dangerous boards? (...and I'm rereading "Protection 2.1" tomorrow)

I don't like the 3-bet. It isn't for value as you have only 1,5 cards for it and there is a flushdraw out as well. Your pair outs are bad as well and you have no fold equity against the maniac or the SB.

Donk/calldown this turn and hope for an overplayed J or so.

why is the 3-bet so bad ? of yourse you are right with what you said but still: CO is almost all in and sb REALLY looks like he is on a draw

I don't understand what you mean with nearly allin. He has 4 BB after his raise and we can't raise for value. He will never fold so which reason do we have to put more money in the pot without value and no fold equity?
SB on a draw doesn't mean that it gives us much value as he might have a flushdraw which gives him 33% equity on his side and I don't think that we have 33%+ against both.

uh ya that´s true... i didn´t really notice what it took him to be all in (flop cap, turn 3-bet) ^^
so i´m wrong again. i think i´m in a hand judging downswing :(

Why downswing? Most of the hands are judged good and it's not a big mistake to play aggressive here. :)

hm ? ^^
last week was good i guess.. today i fucked up about 50% of the hands and yesterday i had the feeling that i was wrong every single time

You were tired as well (I read that somewhere). Good reason to not play when being tired. :)

EDIT: And who says that I'm right everywhere? :/

well at least you have the bigger hand and play higher limits + you where right 98% of the time in the past... so just assume it

So it looks like I really overestimated my hand. I thought that OESD + 2 overcards + backdoor flush was (almost) a monster. But I guess I have to discount some diamonds and some of the Q's (straights) and A's (double pairs).

What do you mean by "you have only 1,5 cards for it"? Are those my outs?

Well normally you take a look whether two cards of your pocketcards make the straight or just one wouzld be used. Here the K uses both your cards but the 8 would only use 1 card (the Q) which makes the OESD a bit weaker so I said 1,5 OESD. The flushdraw possibilities makes it even weaker and the Q is nearly never a good card for you so you can go with 4-6 OESD outs and maybe 1-1,5 outs for your overcards. The backdoorflushdraw gives you additional 1 out (which I didn't even recongnized above). But I think you can't add the backdoorflushdraw and overcards outs into consideration if you want to play for value with a draw so you have maximum 6 good outs to play for value with which isn't enough.
