Board is very dry. There is no need to protect our hand. I would just check/call here and let villain bluff on the turn. Often he is going to bet hist random cards on the turn if we check.
I prefer check/calling more than leading small. Villain may not be stubborn and just fold on any bet. Definitely both - check/call and bet are better than check/raise. With check/raise we are not representing anything but villain wont think on this level. He will see check/raise and will fold scared from our move.
Against good player we can check/raise because it looks bluffly, but good player won't limp preflop in situation like this one.

There is no need to raise his bet here. The only hands that beat you are 77 and x2 combos. When you flop trips you definitely want to extract the maximum value. When somebody is betting into you let them pass you the chips and consider betting on river the rest of your remaining stack.
