Pacific, $20 Buy-in (250/500 blinds) No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 4 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (BB): 755 (1.5 bb)
CO: 664 (1.3 bb)
BTN: 5,304 (10.6 bb)
SB: 2,277 (4.6 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 9 8
2 folds, SB raises to 1,000, Hero folds

Usually this is an any two call, but the point is that if I fold now and the next hand I will be left with 5 chips and the next short stack will most probably bust 4th, cause he will be forced all-in in 2 hands. So is this really a fold, or I should ignore all the speculations and just call with 48% equity against a random hand?

Hey pArCh0n,

I think you hit the nail on the head here, and this seems like a fold for all the reasons you said. most important thing to try and do in your spot here is cash, if you call all in here you have 52% chance of getting 0% of the prizepool, if you win congrats you have 3.5BB and can still come 4th if things dont go your way, you're not guaranteed to cash if you win and you risked coming 4th in an all in spot. Besides that basically everything you said, seems like a fold, if you had 10 less chips i would call :)
