Is putting people on tilt via chatbox trash talk profitable?

First and foremost I realise its bad etiquette and I myself do not do this. However I would be quite tempted to start because recently I have just seen people shoving in their stacks on doing crazy moves after someone mocks them in the chatbox.
This is usually after a bad beat or a shown bluff, for example a guy hit his flush on the river and typed HAHAHA!!!!! and just kept putting that when the guy who got sucked out on called him an idiot etc. The guy on tilt just went crazy and lost about 5 buy ins. Im talking micro/low stakes full ring games here and I know these tactics wouldn't work against multi tabling good players.
Poker is all about maximizing profit and I want to know is it worth it just typing something quick in the chatbox after you get lucky against someone, what are your thoughts on this topic and what are some funny lines to use to make people tilt?

Mocking fish might help you get them tilted and short term might slightly increase your winrate, but we as regs should treat fish politely as they are our customers and we want to keep them coming back and depositing more.

Imagine how long would you keep playing a game that you have to pay for where you are getting eaten alive by better players and laughed at?

Say w/e you want to other regs, you'll look like an asshole but w/e they are not your customers and you won't be hurting the games for recreational players. I'm sure there's plenty regs with tilt problems at all stakes. And getting some reg butthurt may be much more profitable.

I don't think it's a great idea, because you might start levelling yourself into thinking like "I called him an idiot, so he must be tilting, so this 300bb overshove must be air". Also arguing with people takes a lot of your time and attention (unless you just copy/past "idiot" or "jajaja" everytime). You also might get emotionally involved if the person comes back at you and calls your mom a slag or w/e and that's bad too.

Don't do it, really. You want to keep bad players in poker and they are hardly gonna stay if they get insulted everytime they play.

"It takes two to Tango"

If you try to engage another player in a chat war, and he goes along, what is to say you're going to win it?

OTOH, if does NOT play along, you end up looking like a dork.

IMO, If someone at the table is being offensive, I just ignore him, leaving HIM looking like a dork.

Seems to me only the fish can be tilted with simple chat, and they already play bad, so there is no point. Agree that is also makes you look pretty immature, dorkish, etc. And yes, poker is a customer relations job, unhappy fish customers go away and you lose your profits.

That IMO, there's enough bs and meta game in other sports. You wouldn't/shouldn't do it at a poker table in a casino. Just because you have the anonymity of a monitor doesn't make it any better.

Just play the game!

This. You don't really want to add more variables unnecessarily -- particularly ones as ambiguous as "I called him x so he might do y" -- when you're making decisions at the micros. While it may seem profitable, the truth is that you're just making your decisions a lot harder and that seems to outweigh the benefit gained by the occasional tilt-spew.

Plus the fish are our 'clients'. We want to keep our clients happy and we don't want them to leave the table :(

I find that mocking players and/or name-calling quite rude tbh. Even though poker is mostly about winning money, the trade-off from winning the extra money to the loss of etiquette is not worth it.

The end does not justify the means.

End of the day, we all would love to be winning players but also respectable winning players.

I'm with Alficor in that a side effect that goes unnoticed could be your own game gets affected by all the goings on.
Are you so solid your own ego wouldn't get affected if villain fought back with something that really, really hit a personal bad spot, just by coincidence? Really?

If you learn your game well, these rather shadowy tactics will be redundant in my opinion, at least online.

Regards,

Mal.

It's certainly worked on me when I used to play worse than now and easily got angry at my missteps and my opponent's suckouts. Personally I never do it, unless as a humorous reply to some other trashtalker (it can turn into a very fun conversation, actually ). I think it's more okay to talk trash at regs since it's kind of "their job" to not let this affect them. The amateurs don't really deserve it, no matter how bad they're playing, unless they're being insulting themselves.

This.. basically we provide entertainment to fish who give us their money. It's in your best interest to keep the fish having fun playing the game. I mean not talking crap to people doesn't even require any effort, you can just turn off the chat.

About what I've said earlier, I can speak from my experience. I'd talk mad shit to someone and then be very surprised that they really aren't trying to outplay me every hand. It's really easy to start thinking that what the other person does is personal because of what was said in chat and to start levelling yourself into ridiculous things.

FWIW, much better to mute the whole table and concentrate on your own game. Getting involved in trash talk just leads to frustration and you end up tilting yourself I found.
So no, don't type anything in chat, be the bigger man and stay dignified..the game is difficult enough as it is without adding to the stress imo.

No because there's no way in telling if you actually made him tilt and your just going to lvl yourself. He might not even see what you typed or just told you to fk off and you might think his on tilt when he really isn't. There's just no way in telling if his tilting, fish play bad anyway and a reg won't go on tilt just cuz he lost a stack and you called him an idiot.

This is more useful live since people can't click the ignore button on you and its easier to tell if they're tilting.

ain't nobody got time fo dat on zoom specially

it seems stupid to me, never use chatbox at playing - seems like an additional distraction.

and why the hell would you call a bad player a fish? you want them to keep playing bad.

weak regs are exploitable on their own and good regs won't care what you write anyway
