Thanks, helpful. How do we go about formulating this range? We have to call off CO in any event. All the others will plan to fold to a shove (if so, does it actually matter if we have junk in our range if people are not flatting much?)
Do we need to keep the range "reasonable" so that we don't encourage people to abuse us in future? Or is it specifically to do with playabilty vs the fish?
1. weight towards blockers if they wont flat.
2. it makes a difference if you show down K7o because a good reg will immediately adjust by rejamming top 30%+ .
3. i think the BB can have a flat range in this spot and it can even be wider than standard if he sees you opening junk.
how i actually organise my range here is just on feel/gameflow. I think 25%+ is mandatory but you can argue to open a few more if the gameflow permits.
you also have to remember you have 4 people behind you who can actually wake up with a value range. the more people behind, the more opportunities there are for one of them to get dealt trash.
you can do the math on how often at least 1 person will get dealt top 12% and see how often you will get rejammed on purely by value. (i can help do this if you request, but it will take some time). then this will increase if they see you opening wide.
so the bottom line is there are too many people behind to warrant opening up this wide. as you get closer to the BTN it becomes better, as you get further away it becomes worse.
Makes sense. I suppose BB may need more than top 12% as he's in a much better position and a mistake is costly. But, y, say he rejams top 7%.
I guess we can say that c.36% of the time, CO BU or SB wakes up with 12% hand, right? (i.e. 12% for 3 players - i guess that's close enough in terms of calcualation or is there faulty thinking in this?) and 7% for BB means c41% of the time I'm getting rejammed on for value.
So steal already only works c.61% of time ignoring times we get flatted by BB. We need it to work 57% to b/e and I guess it wouldn't take many semibluff reshoves to make this bad.
those rough calculations look correct. noting that the instant profitability applies to raising ATC.
also note that CO value range is wider (although not important because you will get odds to call him, you do have to show down your hand and play a small pot with trash vs him).
its going to be very rough calculations with this many players. my advice is to generate a range that 'feels' good (one where you arent giving up a good image but still stealing profitably when possible).
